I'm dropping my wifes '68 bay down and bagging it front and rear. I have found the wheels and tires that will be used, and am in the process of swapping out the brakes for later '78 disc up front and drums in the rear. I also will need to "tub" the front to fit the wheel/tire combo, but that is not a major deal at the moment. Any one local got info that may help?

i know wagenswest makes some cool stuff as well as franklins vw and wolfgang. might find their sites and look at pics.

if your going to run late disc on an early bay swap out the hole spindle onto the early bay trailing arms. as for bags you can get a similar setup since early bay beams bolt into a splitty so a similar setup should work.

baggin'= air bags to lower and raise the car, like the hydros on lowriders

tubbing, where the front wheel wells are raised so when the car is lower and the wheels will not rub on the metal. :D

I've checked out wagenswest, but they only show a 4" narrowed beam. I'm not sure if it will be enough.

The air bags will be more for a softer, lowered "air ride" and not raising and lowering. This will be my wifes daily driver. I'm also installing "functional" A/C, heat, and a full entertainment system for the kids in the back.

I know your on the KCW site sometimes and my suggestion would be to copy they're bus airbeam. with your skill I'm sure you can do it and the design has already been tested. as far as the 78 front beam on the 68 that might be a problem because the mounts are different.

like bam said a PROBLEM.
like i said, use the spindles only.

BUT if your going to narrow it, id drill your sideplates with BOTH patterns, then if you wanna swap it or sell it later it will be more universal.

I am going to be swapping out the front T-arms from the '78 into the '68 beam. Good point on the redrill though. I'm not sure when this will get underway, so for now I'm still just gathering info. Thanks for the tips.

As for KCW... The 'puter at the house took a nose dive (due to a self replicating worm that didn't get cought in time) and the fire wall here at work blocks the KCW site. So it may be a while before I can check it out in depth. But thanks again for the info BAM.
