I have a 1971 Karmann Ghia. It has ran fine until recently it started running eratically. It was hard to start and then would not run well at low rpms or at idle. I changed the plugs and plug wires and a new fuel filter and I finally got it to start this weekend. First of all it was hard to start, but after I got it started it ran fine and it idled okay. I decided to take it out for a spin and it ran terrible. The car ran eratically when you changed gears and then the car started the same problem I was having earlier where it wouldn't run well at low rpms or at idle. I have a stock motor and setup with the vacuum advance distributor etc. At this point I can't rely on it to go anywhere. Any suggestions? |

I didn't do anything with the items you mentioned. Where should I start first? I think it is firing on all cylinders, because sometime it will run great. especially at higher rpms. |

It almost sounds like the weights in the distributor are sticking. That has bit me a time or two, and Jim is right about the book. Jeff |

I worked on it this weekend and it ran pretty well. It even idled well. I am not sure what is going on with it, I am just concerned it will leave me stranded. I bought the idiots guide and have started to read it. |
