Nothing Better To Do is a rant/support forum made by a few random kids from Colorado. So far we've been running for 2 years and although our community is fairly small, most of the time we keep things at least somewhat active as we talk about our life and vent about our problems et cetera. Anyone and everyone is perfectly welcome, just please no spam, trolling, or flaming. If you've got problems yourself and want to talk about them: come on in and take a seat. After all: you've got nothing better to do.

GOD DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*pinches the bridge of his nose and takes a breath*

Okay, so, i went to dinner this evening with my family. When i say my family, i mean my immediate family (mom and brother) and some of my extended family along with a couple friends of said family. one of these people was my grandpa. Now, i just finished my first semester of college and am home on break, so naturally he wanted to ask a few questions about school. It began with my golf class. As i explained my view that my personal luck curve played a big part in golf, he shook his head and said "no" to himself. He then proceeded to explain to me that it's about practice and technique and that i probably just need a good instructor. I was slightly peeved at this because he brushed my opinion off so quickly, but he's done it before, so i didn't think much of it. Next, he said how "you need to get A's and B's" and when i refuted this claim he, once again, shot down my opinion. Then he said the thing that really brought my piss to a boil "you can disagree with me all you want, but that's the way the world is." ...WHAT...THE...FUCK?!?!?

Alright, so , since when does his opinion suddenly become fact? And he said it like it was a goddamn law of physics too! like i could disproove it and he would still say "no, you're wrong"!! Just because you're old doesn't mean you know how the world works!! Jesus Christ he is so damn stubborn. I feel like i'm that guy from the Family Guy when they referenced the stubborness of a mule. I know sometimes i can be stubborn, but at least i'm not all non-chaleant about telling people they're fucking wrong and i never say that to their face!!!!

Don't get me wrong, i love my grandpa, he's a nice, great, generous man. He's helped us with a lot (or so i've been told), but fucking hell this shit needs to stop!!

I know how you feel. My grandfather can be very stubborn and biased too, though he and I get hung up on politics and religion moreso than grades and golf (probably because I don't play golf like he does...). You can present all sorts of facts, but nope they've already made up their minds. No matter how many times I tell my grandfather we're not a Christian nation, he still lectures me about it via e-mails and occasional talks.

I love him, but sometimes he can be very frustrating. All you can do is just drop it at some point and let him go on in his own little biased world.

and if you ask me, that's the begining step for reformation. If people can learn to listen to new ideas and even be open to them as opposed to this being so damned stubborn that we can't win, then the world will probably be able to make some fuggin progress (not to say that it doesn't currently, but it would certainly be more evident than it is now).
