it all began with my music class. you see, for my music class, we're required to attend classical concerts and then write a review of it based on a few guidelines from our syllabus. The concert was last night at 7 PM. it cost me $5 to get in, which i thought was fine. i went inside and kept in contact with my good pal tim. You see, even though tim is in a different music class, he still has similar reviews to do. So, i walked outside the building and waited for him. we arrived back at the concert hall after the deadline. i was annoyed at this, but shrugged it off. it was just a concert, ya know? But then, luck smiled upon us as the woman who was selling tickets came back out and let us in. As the audience applauded, we rushed to some seats. I waited for a moment, then opened and activated my laptop. Most everyone by now knows i own a laptop, so naturally i intended to use it to write my paper while my subject matter was being performed. i managed to open a new document and my class' syllabus before a man sitting next to tim asked if i would close my laptop. i responded by saying that i was sorry, but i needed to have it open for a class. he asked if i could wait until the end. i, being the nice guy, reluctantly granted his request. he also made a little mimic of a typing sound, i believe he was trying to say how my typing would distract him. i grumbled to myself about this until i had an opportunity to change seats. I relocated to the upper right corner of the room where i had previously left my backpack. Thinking it was safe to once again illuminate my laptop and carry on with my assignment, i did. Better late then never, right? I had to get up a few times to let people past me into the row, which was fine with me. Another person came up towards me and i got up, assuming that she was going to get in the row as well. Instead, she stood there and told me that it would be much appreciated if i turned off my laptop, arguing that the light would be distracting. i was fairly annoyed at this point, so i retaliated by saying that such a notion was ridiculous. i was in the back row, so unless someone was purposefully watching me instead of the performers, there's no way lght would be as distracting as they claimed. Suddenly, they changed their argument to the sound of my computer. i say they because a few people in front of my agreed that it was loud. feeling backed into a corner, i once again reluctantly set my computer to hibernate. throughout the rest of the performance, i found it hard to really think about the music and whatnot because these people had silenced me. afterward, i ranted my lungs out at tim and eventually i felt better. i mean, seriously? my typing is loud enough to distract from a blaring sax and a pounding piano? BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!! i mean, granted i'm not aware of any accoustic anomilies in that particular concert hall, but even so, how is the combined sound of my hard drive spinning (which doesn't happen all the time and didn't last night) and the sound of my fan (again, sometimes loud sometimes quiet, this time i was lucky enough to have it quiet) and my typing (which isn't that loud anyway) be louder than a sax which was loud even from a distance? and the light was distracting? are you fucking kidding me? if light is so distracting, turn off the stage lights, let's see the performers perform then huh? i mean, for Christ's sake, i was doing this for a fucking class!!! give me a fucking break!!! so...many...murderous thoughts...during that...concert... |
