CNN Quick Vote

I've always wanted to post a bunch of these, but CNN usually takes them down before I have a chance to copy+paste them, and I don't know if/where they are archived.

We saw a 7% loss in the entire market today. That means we lost almost a tenth of EVERYTHING today. In just ONE day! With that in mind, here is your inaugural CNN Quick Vote poll:

Quote:

Are you making sacrifices because of the financial crisis?

Yes  74%  158545

No  26%  55124

Total Votes: 213669

150,000+ people are going without. That is only a small percentage of the people nation-wide that are suffering this very moment, not to mention globally. I know it may sound like I'm blowing things out of proportion here, given our comfortable standard of living (especially here at NM!), but I just have to keep getting the message out there until it sticks.

Let us do what we can to make do, and better the lives of others, each and every one of them that we come across! We are the living embodiment of a better tomorrow, all we have to do is make it so.

Congrats on the promotion HGZ!

I'm a student, going for my master's for now in international development, possibly PhD but I'm still not sure yet.

Two hits to the green today. One to the green in the stock market, not so good. One to the 420, now that's a different story!

More has been said about the global implications of this regression. I can't believe there are still people out there who aren't calling this a recession, but there's no way they can't call it a regression.

Stocks recovered close to 5% today, but that isn't a good gauge of how the every day people are still being left on the short end of the stick. I'm not stressed about anything, but then again I don't have a spouse and two kids:

Its always funny to hear the "well, if you can die for your country, you ought to be able to drink beer!" argument.

I don't think it's too young. The two worst scenarios I can imagine are an 18 year-old who thinks he has no other financial choices than the military or a kid being forced in by his parents somehow. In the first case it's a personal choice, and in the second case the kid should be able to say no at age 18, and if they can't then, I don't know that more years would change things. Some people just aren't going to be able to handle it mentally, no matter the age. I don't know how I'd react to being drafted...unless I were first pick that is! ::slam dunk::

I agree with Economy being #1, but my selfish pick is Healthcare. I'm surprised to see it so low!

What should be President-elect Obama's first priority?

Healthcare needs to be fixed... but universal is not the answer.

Why isn't it, and if it isn't, what is?

Personally, I'm premed. So, in defense of the doctors, I don't want to work for the next 15 years to become a doctor to make an income I could of made if I had started working a decade earlier. While money shouldn't be the reason to be a doctor, who the hell wants to work themselves to death seeing 500 patients a day to make the same salary as someone who fixes computers, in addition to the years of struggle and debts required to become a doctor based on schooling costs and competition? The reason why universal works in other countries is because the healthcare there is a larger part of the economics than it is in the US.

I think prevention would be a better method to cover the uninsured (in addition to making medicine a desirable field worth the effort), but I'm too lazy to write out why.

I hadn't been keeping tabs on the economy here lately. It seems like things had stabled out, but the Dow doesn't look too healthy. No idea where it'll go from here. I notice there's a lot of Christmas sales going on, which is normal of course, but it seems like these sales are even bigger than in years past. That's good to see low prices for the consumer. What about next year?
