Another brilliant post by the legendary tomass. What's next, a post about how great john edwards is? A poll about signing k-rod to an extension? Or maybe your predictions for the nl wild card. Lol |

Still waiting for both of you. Id love to discuss 9/11, illuminati, shit, basically any political fairy tale and have you guys educate me correctly and teach me the true ways of politics. We all know every single person who questions an "official" story is just crazy, oh, and all republicans are rich. Lol, please keep going, I promise I won't get into "pancake theories" or controlled demolitions, I'm no scientist. I guarantee you that if you really wanna talk about it ill show my opinion is no joke and will fuck your mind up bad. But the 3 of us all know that you both don't want that so just shut the fuck up next time I post something that isn't even directly related to conspiracy theories. |

So I've been watching these and thought I might give some reviews: Myteries of Asia: Lost Temples of India - Pretty cool, a lot of stuff I didn't know about. It focuses on one ancient king and the temple city he built in South Asia, and the producer seems to have something against the Taj Mahal, cause the movie's all bitter like 'all you westerners care about is the pretty taj mahal but youre too dumb to even know about our other ones'. Weird, but still informative. The True Story of Che Guevara: Very informative, he had a short life so it manages to capture just about all the moves he made. It captures both his subjective view of himself as well as an objective view. After seeing this, I still don't like the guy though, seemed naive and full of himself/revolution. Stealing a Nation: VERY informative and pretty controversial. The US basically strongarmed Britain into giving us an island, Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean. There were people living there and had been for like 200 years, but the British just kicked them all off and forced them into a slum in Mauritius where they basically grew old and got sick. Shows how power trumps all. Napoleon: Pretty standard, there was nothing all that revealing. I was left with this feeling that A. The past was way too dominated by war, it was like winning a battle was the only constructive thing you could do in life, and B. When you're lucky and succeed beyond your wildest imaginations, you're gonna be so disappointed with the thought of settling down that you'll do any crazy shit just to test your own limits. When the Moors ruled in Europe: Fairly informative, as it's kind of a murky period of history for me. Shows how multiculturalism can come and go, and how once smart civilizations can go dumb. Medieval Lives: Comedic look at things in British history. It's more history than comedy, but there are funny things still. The Medici: Godfathers of the Renaissance. - A cool look at how Florence prospered and why so many artists came out of the region, thanks to the Medici family and their hold on money and power. No bad guys to root against, so it's kind of a spirit-lifting thing if you're worried about humanity. Japan: Memoirs of a lost empire - An informative look at ancient Japan and how its politics and culture shifted over the years. My favorite part was when it talked about Europeans describing Japan for the first time as remarkable, as they had totally non-European ways, yet managed to maintain a stable and safe civilization (unlike all the other non-European parts of the world, where savagery reigned) The Crusades - Kinda just focuses on the 1st on, then a little bit about the 2nd and 3rd. I wish there were more discussion of how ordinary people felt during these times and its future implications, rather than just the military stuff. I'd suggest reading a book instead. The Birth of Israel - The name says it all. Goes over the Palestinian/Israel conflict and the history of the country. Seemed balanced. The Death of Yugoslavia - TOP RECOMMENDATION. This was informative as crap, as it was discussing a period of like 3 years yet was a 6-part arrangement. It's very recent, so that's interesting, but it highlights the fragility of political alliances and how quickly multicultural experiments can break apart. It also includes the genocides and how hard it was for the Serbian government to even control the military. It really gives a good argument for our 2nd amendment, as gunless Bosnians were being mowed down by the troops. Then it gets into international intervention and how tricky foreign treaties are to write and agree to - it gets into the murky details of redrawing the maps after separation. You'll know more about Yugoslavia after seeing it, but I think it's better for learning about politics in general. Provvos, Loyalists, and Brits - Goes over the IRA's fight for independence, from the view of all 3 parties. I haven't watched the Loyalist or Brit parts because it's like 5 parts per group, but it's very detailed. It's always been interesting for me to think about secession politics and independence movements, as it's hard to tell where morality and rationality lie. The Spanish Civil War - ALSO A TOP RECOMMENDATION. Very detailed account about how after the monarchy fell in the 1930's, the country just erupted. Every group in the country suddenly had a democratic say, and without any existing party structure, the country just began to fragment. Throw in a coup, and there were about 6 different sides all fighting for their own goals, turning Spain into a crazy warzone. Because communist and fascist groups were among the fighting parties, other European nations began getting involved, backing their favorite sides (It was like a mini WWII, in preparation for the real one). People were coming from all sorts of countries to fight for their ideologies; like you had German communists coming to fight, but since the Spanish communists thought of Germans as fascists, they were baffled by the help. I would teach this in schools if I had a say in curriculum. |
