"THE" Health Care Bill Passes

Some questions for those who followed this story. How immediate are the effects, and who do they apply to? What are the pros and cons? Why did people vote for or against this bill?

Most of what I've read about this so far has been slanted and bigoted, from both sides. A lot of hateful comments, some saying this fixes everything, others saying this don't fix shit. Where does the yelling stop and the discussion begin?

The criticism I've heard so far has to do with the cost. But really, what is more valuable than health?

all i really see is a bunch of bums getting free healthcare and old people getting extra money for prescriptions. besides the staying on your parents insurance until you're 26 (why 26? Why not 86? Since there will be no more insurance companies to compete with each other what's so bad about me not wanting to get a job that provides healthcare and me wanting to be on my mother's/wife's insurance? ) i don't really see how this is going to benefit us and this whole "oh it'll decrease the deficit in 10 years!" sorry, i've heard these bullshit claims time and time again and while it may REDUCE THE DEFICIT it's also going to REDUCE THE EVERYDAY WORKING CLASS CITIZEN BY TAXING HIM FOR 400 LB HEART ATTACK MONSTERS AND THE HUNDREDS OF DISEASES THAT KILL THOUSANDS EVERY DAY. But hey, Barry's got a decent jumper.

I think this bill is awful.

First of all, tax credits for small businesses to help them pay for their employees healthcare? What about larger businesses? What about individuals? Where are their tax credits?

Banning discrimination against providing coverage to a child with pre-existing conditions? Listen, I'm sorry your kid was born with a malady of some kind, but what has he done to earn health insurance?

Mandating that at least 80% of your premium go to medical costs and not administration cost? But how are the insurance companies going to be able to afford to pay out bonuses to their employees that cut the most number of patients?

Helping out retirees who have been stuck in an arbitrarily created donut hole by the Republican Congress in the early 2000s? They were obviously screwed for a reason.

Paying for new doctor training programs so that more doctors will be available to deal with the influx of newly covered patients? Don't we already have med schools?

Fuck this.

I've always believed in the saying "too good to be true." Supposedly this is going to just cure all problems, provide medicare for everyone, the rich get taxed extra, AND it's going to cut the national debt starting in 10 years?!?! Oh Boy sign me up because I believe every part of that is going to happen!

You're overgeneralizing a lot there. The 'cure all problems' and 'provide medicare for everyone' aren't parts of the bill, the second part of which I wish had been. They'll tax rich people, that's easy.

You're right about questioning the deficit cut though, CBO estimates are just estimates and pretty much always wrong. I'd bet thousands that this bill will add to the deficit overall, but I personally think it's the type of bill that should. Reforming welfare, increasing the retirement age, and G'ingTFO of Iraq/Afghanistan would more than compensate so we don't have to always suck just because of this.

I honestly don't know if he is being sarcastic here. And (not talking about Tom here) that's what is funny with some of the talking points of bill opponents. They can often seem like positives

Providing medicare for everyone isn't part of the bill?

It only covers 95%, so it's an expansion but it's not universal.

Too bad the states are gunna sue and hang this thing up.

I'm with Dave on this one, it really does seem to good to be true. My initial worry is you're taxing capital gains even more which will discourage investment in the market and keep us stuck in this recession.

Common sense check here for me: Who had the bright idea to bring in a 4th entitlement program (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security) during a recession anyways? Bad timing, no? This type of spending won't stimulate the economy.

I personally can't wait to see the new wave of doctors emerge over the next 10 years. I'm gonna walk into the doctor's office and hear "HIIII EVLEE BODY!" ....................."HI DR. NICK!"

What's up with people's houses or offices getting shot up over this? I'd think that's kind of extreme. Do you think conservatives are instigating people into going to those lengths, or are people really that crazy?

Crazy lunatics like me believe the following -

1. Obama did not write this bill so let's not suck his dick just because he signed it. Barry was filling out his women's bracket when this shit was getting written up.

2. People making $250K with SMALL businesses are paying the same percentage as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet

3. The possibility of FORCED VACCINES like the recent swine flu bullshit vaccine. If you are under the government's health care bill, the government will recquire you to take THEIR vaccines whether you want to or not. I personally have never met anyone who has met anyone who has acquired swine flu, which was created in a government lab and is a constantly mutating virus meaning there is no fucking cure. Shit is just going to happen, LIKE THE REGULAR FLU

4. Obama must not be aware of the whole 9/11/Illuminati/COUNTRY RUN BY ZIONIST JEWS RUMORS because as soon as he passes the most controversial bill in decades, he has a 2 day meeting with the president of Isreal with no media coverage whatsoever and no interviews whatsoever. But hey, at least we get to see his NCAA bracket!

5. 30 million people are going to get free healthcare. How? Us. I have no problem with giving people with pre-existing medical conditions who have the skills to obtain a 9-5, but people making $250K or less should not be the ones paying for them. There should be a millionaires tax, a CEO tax, and an excessive wealth tax for anyone making $10M a year or more. Seperate excessive wealth taxes should be made for people making $25M a year, $50M a year, $100M a year, $250M a year, $500M a year, and $1B a year.

6. The people who will be operating on you and prescribing you, checking out to make sure you're 100% healthy, are going to be getting paid less, working more hours, and dealing with hundreds of new patients every month. This is going to pave the way for a new shitty line of doctors to come in.

Sticking to my policy of not getting into this debate..

but regarding the Israel thing... there was purposefully no joint press statements, no photo ops, no press conferences because the U.S. is piiisssssssssed at Israel right now regarding settlements in East Jerusalem.

And the purposeful slight has worked, the Israelis are miffed that the U.S. acted as if the PM visit was nothing to write home about.
