The biggest dilemma so far

I have a problem with Nintendo. I also have a problem with those who are still 'fans' of Nintendo. I would go as far as saying I hate both. More and more people agree with me now, more people dislike Nintendo, the Wii and the DS.

There is an easy fix, you'll be pleased. A simple idea, an idea that will be better for everyone. You, me, Nintendo's 'fans' and every other gamer.

Nintendo sell themselves to Valve.

You heard me. Yeah, Valve will own Nintendo. Ask yourself this; what has Nintendo done for you lately? Don't give me that "lots of games I like" crap, what have they really done for you? What have they done that's so good that they feel they can charge you to play online? Nothing. That's the answer.

What has Valve done latelty? Let's see:

  • Created the Steam system, which provides both first and third part games for cheaper than retail.
  • Created and released (for free) the engine (which happens to be better than the Wii) free for public use.
  • Released (for free) achievement packs for their games. Team Fortress 2 is constntly being updated with new weapons and a lot of achievements. They can't do this for free, but they give it for free.
  • Customer support. They have it. You could email the directors at Valve and get a response.
  • Cheaper gaming. Take Super Smash Bros. Brawl; £30 new. Take the Orange Box; £30 new. Which contains 5 games including a MMOFPS? Which has earned over 100 awards?
  • They create new, interesting games. Team Fortress 2 is a sequel, yes. Half Life 2 is a sequel, again. They are massively different to the previous games, though.
What has Nintendo done lately?

  • Accounced that they will be ending the Wii's lifecycle early.
  • Announced that they will be charging you to play online.
  • Insulted most of you.
If Valve bought Nintendo you would have a massive variety of games. Steam has casual to 'hardcore'. MMOFPS's to hilarious Puzzle games. From Peggle to Half Life. From Counter Strike: Source to Lumines. From Call Of Duty 4 to Total War.

You would have fantastic customer support. You could get a response from the directing PR guy in a week.

For those who will reply tl;dr

Nintendo, please GTFO and give your resources and manpower to Valve.

Not a bad idea, but I'm not convinced valve should be in control of such a huge company, if I'm honest. :|

Because giving things away for free is great when you don't have large numbers of shareholders, but when you do have them, giving things away for free turns off investors, no matter popularity.

Nintendo are, and always have been, slaves to their stock brokers.

Valve can lock all ex-Nintendo employees in a basement and give them each a typewriter. Eventually, like a monkey, on will make a decent script. Oblviously nobody that works for Nintendo cares about gaming. Or is intelligent. Or had has had sex. Or has ever moved out of their parents house.

Yeah... I don't have a clue who Valve is, or what the Steam System or Team Fortress 2 are.

I'm also not fickle enough (or really thrifty enough) to decide that because I'm slightly annoyed by a company's decisions and I'm not wowed by their current line up. Besides which, I'm not that worried about the coming games, because at the moment I have too many games, not to mention a few games on the way.

PS What's tl;dr? I've seen it before, but don't have a clue what it is.

@Ryan, any chance of posting this on the ONM forums for me? Just to piss the fanboys off.

The thing about Valve though is that it has a different ethos to making games. In that it's all about it. Nintendo are in it for profit, and while Valve are too, they realise that by making better games this increases profit. Apparently to get a job you have to prove you're in it for the fun and not the money. Nintendo...well if you've ever seen their application forms, well, you could get a job filling them in they're so long.

They're different companies. Remember, Valve is a software company, Nintendo is larger and has interests in different areas...

Not really, I mean, why would that make me happy. I'll be happy when I see Nintendo's directos on their knees crying because nobody buys their next console after they spen all of their money developing a new gimmick.

Gacha is a terrible mistress.

They'd have to be stupid to sell their company when it's doing so successful right now though. They're practically running out of resources due to selling so well. What'd the point be in selling when they'd make more money in the long run otherwise? That is, unless Valve'd be willing to go bankrupt by using up more than all their money to buy Nintendo. Maybe Microsoft could buy them, but I doubt Valve could.
That's what makes this plan of yours pointless and non-worthwhile.

Why do you people not know who Valve are? I assume you at least know what Half Life is, Valve made that and all of the other greatest games ever. Portal? I know you're 10 years old and your mum wont buy 12+ games for you but you must at least of heard of this?

And if not then this is exactly why Valve should do this, so that it'll bring more people into the light, pull their heads out of their arses and teach them that there a host of better games than anything Nintendo have ever made.

It wouldn't happen though, Nintendo now own more money than God and Valve actually have a surprisingly small amount of staff, it should but it wont.

I don't ask why you don't know what/who Dylan Moran, The World Ends with You, the Fratellis (pick whichever one you haven't heard of) are and you don't complain that I haven't heard of Valve.

I've heard of Half Life, never played it. Barely even heard about it really.
Im 17, heard of Portal, but only in terms of everyone repeating the quotes from it. I know nothing of the actual game.

I think the large majority of people agree that sex and cookies are great. People would stop having sex with a cookie to play Portal. That's how good it is.

I guess I'm not the large majority of people, I love my cookies.
I don't really play PC games anyway, because the ones I have played are usually way strategic (read 'hard for me') and involving (read 'take 6 hours to play one game').

Sex with cookies? Sex with cookies?! *runs to biscuit barrel*

You're acting very defensively garry, I'm not saying I'm angry with you for not knowing who Valve are (though secretly I am :suss: ... cept not so secret anymore.) I just think that this would be a good way of introducing people like you to their games. Valve are planing to make a game for Wii though, they'll probably wnat to get stuff like Left 4 Dead and Portal 2 out of the way first.

Also I love Dylan Moran, the Fratellies are overated, and I don't care about your JRPGs, thsoe are jsut things which you'd assume most people would know about and just as I assumed most knew about Valve.

It was probably slightly defensive because I don't think any should assume anybody knows something they consider common knowledge, ever.

I might give Portal a go, it sounds interesting, but after I'm done with/bored of other games that shall remain nameless *cough* brawl *cough*

That was kind of my point, that I like all those things a lot, and think they're brilliant and popular but I shouldn't assume everyone's heard of them (even though you have <_<)
