God of tricks and folly!
All the bored nerds will be out of a job ;)

But look at the plus side:
-kids spend less time at the computer. Less fat people.
-families will save money from having no subscription fees.
-no more online fraud and haxxoring.
-Less fat people.
erm...
-Even less fat people...yeah!

The downside:
-no more free porn
-Stephen Hawking won't be able to get regular software updates
-more kids causing havac on the streets
-no more Sickipedia
-I won't have anywhere to vent my sarcasm and abusive comments (same for Howe and everyone else)

But ultimately there will be theoreticaly less fat people!

Well we managed without the Internet for <age_of_earth-15> years, we'll probably be able to manage again. If things start to look bad I'll download Wikipedia and store it locally. 3.5GBs of compressed XML. Couldn't uncompress it though as it's 150GB uncompressed. We don't have that much space left, my brother's HDD is 200GB, but with only about 60GB left. If you're interested in downloading, it can be found here...

Ah, so you don't have Freeview?

I do but I lost those channels when I had to re-install because of the signal strength being pathetic at best. Now I just get BBC channels, Dave, Music, Film 4 and ITV +1.

It's about time fat cat media people realised what good piracy actually does for them. Arctic Monkeys got famous because everyone downloaded their stuff mostly illegaly. Amy Winehouse was the same. And, after listening to a number of songs by bands (illegaly downloaded) I feel more compelled to buy albums.

Not many people tihnk like this though, I'm pretty sure most people just download them and go 'YAY! It's free!'

To stop piracy all they have to do is have music and Tv available for download on sites for free, then they put in ads to get their money. Everyone wins.

When you think about it though, the internet is a bit mad. It's the ultimate free medium. Anyone can put up anything, very few thigns aren't allowed and of the things that aren't finding them is difficult, as is taking them down especially when the people who own the website come up with legal loopholes. It's practically a lawless area.

Do not try and eat the cake, only try and realise the truth.
I said it'd kill stocks Hades.

Which no-one else seems to be taking heed of here. The convenience of the internet is that it is pay your bills, browse what you like. People will generally speaking care less, because they use the internet casually. The ISP that chooses to keep everything free but charge a greater amount for the internet is the one that will ultimately create a monopoly, because people will pay for the convenience and give the two-finger salute to those trying to charge us for using lots of sites.

Plus, this would stop me getting on /b/.

And also the stocks won't crash if every ISP does it because as people still pay for TV licensing they will pay for the internet.

Wait a minute ... how exactly do Virgin know you're using t'internet to illegally download content? I guess they'd notice that your usage has suddenly shot up and then they'd check the contents of it. They can't just ban everyone who downloads anything.

Download.com, BBC iPlayer, IGN video reviews, SourceForge, BitTorrent, all are perfectly legal.

Also, there are ways to get around the system, but I can't tell you here as it breaches the InvisionFree T's of U, but I'm sur you all know anyway.
