I had a conversation just like this in school today..

Anyway, it's not illegal, nor is any other file sharing software (I'm guessing frost wire is one :p ) , it's only illegal for you to use it for downloading copyrighted material. But who's gonna know ;)

But who's gonna know ;)

On BBC news once there was a story on BT broadband invading on some subscribers' privacy or something. :p

The program itself isn't illegal.

As a piece of GFDL licensed software (the same license used by Wikipedia and Linux. Firefox also has it as one of its licenses, as does most FLOSS), Frostwire and Limewire were intended to be used to share GFDL licensed software. If you search you can find most Linux distros, which are perfectly legal to download. Same with BitTorrent. If these things were illegal then we wouldn't be able to download them; the sites would be closed down. What you do with it however (and I'm sure what most people do with it) IS illegal...

It's not, the same way people say that TV-links wasn't illegal and that torrent sites are just for people who 'just want to back up their files'.

It's illegal to download anything that you would normal expect to pay for.
Also, Virgin will be sending out warnings next week..

It's been said its a three strike system, if they notice you using lots of MBs, then zoom in and notice its on frostwire, they send you a happy letter through the post.
1 letter of 3 before they cut you off.

I was going to make a topic about this so changing the title a bit.

Yep.
Shame they are the only cable service.. aren't they?
Means if you want something else you've gotta pay BT line rental whichever service you want...

Yeah, people can go around the ISP's like a rich guy with another areas's hookers because they can't report you to each other.

I regularly download stuff anyway, like 8GB's worth of Oblivion mods I got in a day. Plus I download a hell of a lot of custom TF2 maps (usually 4-10 a day at 10-40mb). The only thing I've illegally downloaded lately is Raunchy's new album, but they've released it on their myspace anyway.

Cable service? ?:/
You mean someone who gives cable TV with internet, or someone who connects to the internet by cable?

I know little of these internet terms if you haven't noticed...

Either way that sucks, it's not the same as that here, everyone got tired of Eircom prices, so tons of crappy internet companies sprung up, but there are some good ones in them...
