Okie doke. So my final unit for this year at college ends on June 16th. Yep, that's when I finish, but my future beyond that is quite indeterminate at the moment.

Anyway, I need feedback. This last unit is a team-based unit. Naturally, I'm working alone and my "team" is actualyl my client - the editors of the magazine in my village called The Marlpit.

I figured, and I think you'll agree, that their website needs a redesign. I also wanted to make it more interactive, hence the addition of the forum.

So basically, tell me what you think.

http://marlpitproto.co.uk

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP TO THE FORUM. IT IS FOR EXPERIMENTAL PURPOSES ONLY.

Ta very much. :)

Oh yeah, for comparison's sake, their official site can be found here.

As you can see, I tried to keep in with their style, bu that's surpisingly difficult when redoing a site. I have a tendancy to run off with my own ideas.

*Puts on criticism hat*. Hm, your design is too static. I don't feel like the site is moving, changing. It's not dynamic. I'm not saying go over the top, but it needs to be more gripping. Also, it looks like something from the 1990s, your link bar needs to be more than just a string of links. The site needs to be generally more interative (NOT Flash though, good move in removing that). Also it looks like it was made using Freewebs.

Well done on keeping with the design though, and I know it's just a small paper...

Gacha is a terrible mistress.

I don't like they way their official site is. Your one is much better in my opinion. ^_^
The forum could do with a bit of altering visually, but I guess that's not part of what you're meant to do, right? ?:/

The main intention of this unit is actually NOT to produce a completed site. It is to develop a PROTOTYPE. The prototype must clearly show how the site is intended to work, but doesn't have to be finished, hence why the link to download Adobe Reader and the latest issue doesn't work, and the form to contact the editors doesn't work.

@ Cieran: The site is meant to be static. It is designed to show that I have considered as many different users as possible, who will be accessing the site with varying computer specs, meaning that the site has to load quickly on a 56k modem, has to consider a user's screen resolution (hence why it's designed to fit a screen of 800 pixels wide), and the colour scheme had to cater for old people. The site is typically aimed at the residents of the villages, many of which are old and have not-so-up-to-date computers, so the colour scheme had to be high contrast while still looking nice, and the site's layout had to be unintrusive and avoid overpowering the user with content. Also, it was hard enough to fit those links into that bar! How can I put more in?!

I like it, that bird was annoying on the real one. Better without the flash to, for those not that good with computers that dont have it.
