I hope Cieran and Razdabillyskank don't mind me bringing up one of my old topics from the HS on here. It's just when I posted it on the HS, I thought it'd be a good topic which would get lots of replies. I can't remember if it did. In fact, I think it did; but I thought it might be an interesting topic to bring over here. There are a few members on here who don't use the HS so there might be some fresh material for this topic. So, are you a sound sleeper? Are you the sort who can sleep through an earthquake or must the room be completely pitch black and silent? Do you prefer to have some sort of light visible at night? Do you have anything that you take to bed with you? Are you the sort to oversleep without an alarm? How long do you generally sleep for? Can you sleep in the car? On the sofa in front of the telly? In your computer chair whilst on MSN?! ;) Also, got any stories of things which have happened in the night, or of good/bad dreams? Personally, I am a pretty sound sleeper once i actually egt to sleep, but actually getting to sleep is the hard part. Everything has to be completely silent and pitch black. Well, not strictly silent, because i can sometimes hear cars going past on the road behind my house, which usually so wake me up. I guess it depends how tired I am. I have to turn my TV off at the plug at night though. The bright LED on the front keeps me awake. I know I can't see it when my eyes are closed, but the fact that I know it's on is what keeps me awake. That's what I mean when I say the room has to be completely pitch black. I can't even have the light on in the landing, otherwise i can't sleep; so my mum had a little night light put in the landing which doesn't bother me. That way, I can sleep without a bright light under my door, but you can still see where you're going during the night if your digestive system needs to be evacuated. Also, I turn my TV off at the plug because, when the TV is on, the noise goes away, but when it's in standby, the power supply whistles. It's very quiet, probably not noticeable during the day, but I can't stand it at night. And flies, I can't do flies. I will quite happily fill up my bedroom like a gas chamber to get rid of bugs in the night, and I just stand around in a tired trance for ten minutes whilst it does it's work, then I'll re-enter and collapse on the bed. And I usually can't sleep beyond 9am. I only sleep that long when I'm really tired or got to bed really late. I'm starting to get annoyed at my sleep pattern and will probably have to end up going to bed earlier, perhaps around 10pm, to get the right amount of sleep. For some reason in the mornings i've been waking up gradually earlier and earlier over the past couple of months. This morning I woke up at 6am, and 6 hours of sleep in nay good. So, anyway; how about you? |

Well most of the time I need a dark, quiet place, but if I'm tired pretty much anywhere. I planned to stay up all night on Friday night due to an early start of 4:30, yet ended up falling asleep with the light on, propped up against some pillows, fully dressed with the computer running. Slept for about three hours. Yet on a normal day I can stay awake till three and still not be tired. I normally stay up later in the holidays. As in MUCH later. I stayed up till 5am last year. However, once I actually get to sleep, it's a force to wake me. I've slept through all the earthquakes we've had. I think I get it from my dad. I once tried to wake him up after he fell asleep on the floor and was snoring. Rolling, poking and dropping ice on him wouldn't wake him up. What is rather annoying though is when there are other people in the room. When in Dublin these past three nights I've been sharing with my brother and his friend. Kyle likes to stay up later than I do, in fact on the first night (after the previous night's three hours) he was obnoxious that we were going to bed at half eleven, and so sat there humming in bed to annoy me. Last night he was just being a dick till about half twelve. Also, I sleep late. If not interupted I can happily sleep all morning and into the afternoon. I'll get 10-12 hours on a good night... |

I don't think he gets your name :teehee: So its all just jibberish to him. Anywho, I sleep best when I'm in a sleeping bag on the floor in a house I don't usually sleep in, which is weird. I guess it's because in my own house I start thinking 'you don't need to sleep, you could...dance. Etc' but in somebody else's I think 'don't move, or they will serve your knees for lunch tomorrow' Even if they're perfectly friendly people. >_< |

You should have facepalm'd him. Anyway, I can go to sleep in pretty much any situation I so please. Aside standing. I've never tried, in all fairness. But yeah, generally, lights on/lights off. Don't care. Bed/hard floor. Meh. Admittedly, if I'm wide awake I can't, but who can? :p Like Cieran, slept through all the Earthquakes. In fact, some friends of mine took a game of waking me up. They blasted smooth criminal at me, threw balls at me, covered my hand in whipped cream (weren't trying to wake me up, but they put it on my hand). Urm... yeah. It didn't work. ;/ My alarm seems to be the only thing that does it. As for times to be awake, I get about 7-9 hours if I know I'm going to get proper sleep, otherwise it tends to be 4 hours and then I wake up and sleep later. I'm off back to my patch of straw. Oh I'm so pleased I've finally scraped together a corner and some straw... |

I don't have a great sleep pattern. I tend to go to bed from around 02:00 to 04:00 (extend that to 5:30 on weekends). Weekdays, I get about 3-6 hours sleep, weekends, 6-9 hours. In the middle of my sleep, I can wake up quite a lot, usually to have a piss. But I fall asleep soon after. |

I used to sleep fantastically. At about Christmas, I got a healthy 10 hours on good nights. But lately, I've been under a fair bit of stress. It doesn't show in the day, but basically, I get 5 hours on a decent night these days. Sunday just gone, I did something I hadn't done for a long time, and didn't sleep for even a minute. But I was away from home, so I'm not sure if I'm counting that one. I was so homesick, another problem I don't normally have... Or have ever had, now I think about it. |

Last night I slept from 2-9 ish. I usually get more sleep on school nights. I've stayed up for 2 days in a row twice, whilst at parties that ended up being 'sleep'overs even though I never slept. I prefer to go to bed quite late because then I get straight to sleep, but if I go at 10pm or something I end up listening to the radio on my phone until 1am (thank you The Confessional on Viking FM 10-1). I got woken up by the earthquake, but only because I was laying against a shaking wall at the time. Oh, and I usually sleep naked and with the windows open, because its easier to warm up in bed than it is to cool down. |

Well, it's hard to get to sleep as my body doesn't produce much Melatonin, so I have to take it before going to bed, I have to watch TV before going to bed or I just can't sleep, I can never sleep on planes, or during the day even if I'm really tired. Umm, have to sleep naked and wanking helps calm me, I usually like having my tablet on sleep mode so that there is a slow, flashing light in the room, then I just concentrate on that. I usually meditate for about 20 minutes to shut my brain off, and when I get to sleep I don't usually wake up, but lately I have been waking up 2 times per night and it takes over an hour before I can get back to sleep. I sleep through loud noise, but if there is a quiet noise, I usually wake up. Last night the printer started taking in paper for no apparent reason, it was quite quiet, but I woke up and had to un-plug it anyway. Also if there is a light on that wasn't on when I got to sleep, I will wake up. I try to sleep for about 6/7 hours, although I can't. And I'm more tired in the morning/day than I am at night. My eyes usually sting at night so I know I have to sleep, but then it just goes and I am wide awake. What else would you like to know? |

Semi-inspired by another user on another forum I use. His username is RastaBillySkank, which he chose because he's a big Red Dwarf fan like myself. RastaBillySkank is the name of Dave Lister's favourite band. See Red Dwaf season 4, episode 5: Dimension Jump. :) As for sleep, I usually feel like i haven't slept enough if I have only 8 hours sleep. I think 10 hours is my comfortable minimum, which i haven't been reaching a lot recently. And as I said earlier, I usually can't get to sleep if I can hear or see anything, but once I'm asleep, I can be quite a sound sleeper, but last night a thunderstorm went over and it was very close. It was very loud and the sound of the thunder was almost instant after the lightning, so it must have been close. ;) Sort of like what you see in films/cartoons. You will always hear thunder instantly after seeing the flash. There's never a delay like in real life. And as well as that, it woke up the dog, who was howling for the rest of the night. I like to wear pyjamas at night, but recently haven't been because they're now too small. And the earthquake didn't wake me because i was already awake. On that night we were all helping my nan who wasn't feeling well. She actually went to hospital. The ambulance arrived just before 1am. I stayed at home and my dad followed in the car. I was already awake and so should have noticed it because I was fully aware, but I didn't feel a thing. However, about 5 minutes later, dad came back and said that the car had some sort of steering problem, in that it felt like it wasn't keeping straight. We've never had that before and never had it since, so we think it may have been the earthquake. |

It can often take me an hour or two to get to sleep, but I usually get 9 hours or so. Living next to the Plumb Centre, I'm used to loud noises, but something like the creaking of my door will wake me up. As for location, I can sleep almost anywhere. My bed, that oh so comfy spare bed at my grandparents house, the floor of a traditional broads yacht, it's all the same. But I just cannot sleep with flies etc. in the room. I never leave my door open, and if the window's open I put up a net curtain secured tightly around said window. |

I've hust woken up, so that's 11 hours. Over the last two nights before that I only had one hour of sleep though. I usually have my PC running, downloading stuff and I can never be bothered to unplus the keyboard, mouse etc so there's always a little bit of noise and light. I can sleep with the TV on too, Pirates Of The Carribean helps me do that. |
