I was reading through the Talk Show topic on the HS because I know Tiptup has suggested that someone else should take it over because ZW is no longer with us, came across the posts about the Lion King, and it made me think of this topic. There's no point just starting a topic like this (except maybe in the SHF board) where we just list every game and film and TV show and book related to this topic, which is why I put it in the Off Topic board instead. I'd like to see some conversation about this issue in here, rather than just a list of things which you think fit the topic. So, the general idea of this topic is for us all think about our favourite films, games and books, but not the modern ones. Use this topic to discuss how, if said films/games/books were to be released now instead of when they did, how would their critical reception be different? Do you think they would have a different age rating? Would more of them be banned (such as the case of Manhunt) if they were to be released now? |

Got name checked. Is happy. *** Yah, if Ocarina of Time was released now (on Wii, say with TP controls) , with us being this age and having played the other games, it wouldn't be the classic it is considered now. It is a pretty easy game, and the world is actually fairly small and has pointless areas. If A Link To The Past was released now it would be considered too hard for feeble DS users minds and condemned as a spawn of Satan. Or something. If Mario 64 was released now it would however still be good (see Mario 64 DS) If Banjo Kazooie was released now it would be considered 'another platformer'. The fact it was released when it was added to its awesomeness. This leads me on to my most important point. If Star Wars Pogs were once again given out for free in packets of Walker's crisps, it would still be awesome, despite the very poor timing. Star Wars Pogs were the freebies to end all freebies. |

I didn't know ZW passed away... (That is what you mean right?) If OoT was released now, I think it would be worse. I prefer the way it felt playing it like it is. Not like TP... |

She left the forums. And all I have to say is, V for vendetta, if ti was released now, project chanology would have get a face and a huge boom straight away, and would have been more massive than it already is. |

I'd disagree about oot. I still find it fun, despite ease. The fact is, the harder zelda games (1-3 [3 = lttp]) are for those seeking challenge, the 3D ones don't chalk that up. I don't think we'd be very forgiving of the flaws in the older resis anymore, and I'm fairly sure we'd start to be a lot more irritated by the bigger problems with the first Age of Empires. |

I agree, people would find the camera too confuddling and scream. They also wouldn't understand the art or preserving ammo. The newcomers of the DS and Wii generation (all six of them) can't get their minds around difficult games in general. Its a shame, you can't find a good Jill Sandwich anywhere these days :( |

It added to atmosphere, but it pissed me off when you ran into one of those leech people on Zero because the camera neglected to show you one area of a corridor. Then it shows you it at the next corner just after you've fought off the thing, as if the game is laughing at you. It was a horror game though, so mer. |

Of course Léon would still be popular. It's awesome like that. Although it does look slightly low budget now. It would probably get the same certificate, but if it was up to me I would re-rate almost every film. |

I think it would be fair, but films like The Godfather, especially. Why it that an 18? |

Well I suppose if the book 1984 was released now it would probably be called something different because when the book was published the year 1984 was quite futuristic. |

It Tomb Raider 1 was released now, it'd be called a rip-off of prince of persia + indianna jones :p or Drakes Uncharted. :8} And it'd be rated M for Mature, cause of the guns. XD (I think it already is though oin Australia o.0 ) The game would still recieve positive reviews for it's level design, but it wouldnt be as 'ground breaking' as other games, because the graphics made it awsome back then, and new abilities in games like swimming in 3-D. The heroine also wouldnt be the most one of well-known video game character's, cause by now lots of games have had female main's. :p fanboy pick, there. XD |

I know that Prey is an 18 because it's a shooter and has a lot of swearing in it, but I think it would still only be a 15 if it was released a few years ago, or perhaps a decade ago. There's an awful lot of swearing, and the voice acting is brilliant, but there isn't all that much blood. You just get a little red flash whenever you harm something. That's all. Also, the nudity really doesn't warrant putting up the rating. Seriously, you don't see anything. The worst you'll see are some people in underwear. |
