Oh fine I'll change it "Captain Humour" better? Again, tasteful art is purely subjective, if by tasteful art you mean classical art of the medieval era to the renaissance I would say that that would be tatseful. Where as wouldn't class cel-shading or manga art as tasteful. Purely subjective. |

Still a silly name :) Anyways, it can't be PURELY subjective, although I do recognise that personal tastes affect your judgement massively. There must be some standard to judge by that allows you to determine quality, whether it be subtle or obvious. I simply can't believe that such a widely used activity can be so bland. If so, what's to stop me playing a song on my recorder and comparing it to Wagner or something? Or mashing A4 with a paintbrush and claiming that Angelo did it? |

That is where the majority influence comes into it. If a vast number or a ruling number of people share the same opinion then it comes standard. So the fact that Van Gough's Sunflowers (despite being just sunflowers) is regarded as a masterpiece is simply because the majority deem it to be that. But still you can have your own opinion obviously so if you think your recorder playing is better than Wagner then that's ok for you. |

The thing is, things deemed art by an influential group tend not to be challenged. Many paintings, sculptures, sketches etc. from the renaissance were deemed masterpieces, now no-one actually ever questions 'Why is that art?' or challenges its validity. And anyone who does would probably be hushed and told not to ask stupid questions. |

This topic, unlike any other topic that's ever risen from NOE2, has actually changed my opinion. I now hate art. Not any individual pieces or artists, just the concept. |

You can apply what has been said from the debate to many aspects of life such as law and politics and you'll hate them even more :) |
