Do not try and eat the cake, only try and realise the truth.
So she blames a DS on being a shite-arse parent.

I'm sorry to swear again, but all I can say is:

f*** her.

Your forgiven, it would be a bad parent to give in so easily, I had to wait until my eight birthday until my parents bought me my first GameBoy regardless of how much I nagged but I'm suprised by the Daily Mail, I thought they'd be more likely to blame it on the immigrants or the Left wing government.

Rigth, to actually get some activity to this topic, I will start (unless someone else has posted by the time I've finished).

This was near, damn painful to read. It's a DS not a "Nintendo"! FFS! She doesn't even know what the hell she bought! She also didn't buy "Brain Trainer".

"What is constructive about playing football on a tiny screen, or washing a virtual dog, or watching a hideous pink pony trot around a pink palace decorated with shells?" Well done idiot. Games are supposed to be fun, not education; that's what schools are for. If you don't want them to play that, then don't give them that game.

On the other hand:

Arguments were caused; yes. There were always going to be caused. It's one, handheld between lots of kids, they aren't going to want to take it in turns. Consoles will always cause problems. My brother always whines when he can be a crappy game.

She was fooled into Nintendos happy-fun-education carp. It's a lie. Their games aren't really good for you.

Those kids do look really evil. XD

As Noolsey already said, one console between three or four kids will most likely cause fights.

Also though, sort of what Howe said, some children, if raised right and with good parents, wouldn't fight. Sure, it's unlikely that would be the case, but I've seen some kids who haven't fought in a situation similar to that.

Well me and my younger brother have always been able to share and take it in turns (we do fight occassionally about other stuff) so why it's so hard fr other children I don't know.

One anything between several siblings of that age is more than likely to cause fights, and it's almost certain to if they have to take turns with it. That's because most people are crazy. :)

She's no different to most people on the internet. She has an opinion based on issues localised entirely to her, and she's overlooked simple facts.

If a child is to want to play a DS for 2 hours a day (she said that's how long they normally play for, and this is assuming it's only once a day which is likely untrue), then lets do the math. 2 hours of DS, times 4 because there are 4 kids. 8 hours. Then there's 6 hours of school (this is a minimum, and is probably more than this). Already, we've clocked 14 hours for each kid to be awake a day if they want their 2 hour fix. Might be me, but I don't know any 5 year olds that are awake 14 hours a day.

A simple version of the above is that if there's 1 DS, and 5 kids (Mum included, and she's thick enough) then there won't be enough DS's for 1 each.

Also, the mum knows about the boy playing at midnight? Fool, you've made yourself seem like a rubbish parent with that statement alone.

EDIT: I'm posting a comment now. I'll link to the pic if nobody else does, if you like.

Whilst I have no beliefs that the children won't fight, I do think she was being ridiculous. From what I've read, I doubt it would've been a stretch to just, get this, buy two or three or one each. Siblings will argue, it's a fact of life. What it's over makes no difference, because if you remove it they'll blame each other.

Or move on to something else. If they don't get on, then some parenting could be to blame.

I may comment but it seems to me the priority is to send a huge rant of an email to the Daily Mail for being the scum that they are.

This story is completely twisted and useless. The mother's reasons for buying a 'Nintendo' are those that only a bad mother would use, she will never be mother of the year. Next, she should not have bought from Hong Kong, she could have got a better deal here in the UK. She shows how much her children don't LOVE her but commercial goods which she feeds them with to make her feel better about her obviously appalling parenting skills. This is shown strongly throughout the article. You cannot expect to buy one good for four kids and it work, especially when your children have been brought up by someone who lacks life teaching skills. Nintendo warn in all the instruction booklets that you should not play for longer than an hour at a time. Tell me what is constructive complaining about an inevitability? Please do not call it a 'Nintendo,' it's undermining. The article is badly written and the woman is obviously a failure at  parenting.

Well, we're different then. I'd much rather just complain so people can read my views. Besides, mine might make a difference, no offense or anything.

Ryan.

The problem is, the mail has this firewall that means anything not starting with "the article is full of the truth" is blocked.

:) They're very, very balanced people on the argument front.

It won't let me comment but I supposse mine ending with the Daily Mail is a rubbbish doesn't help.

Well it looks like the work of bad parenting and ill disciplined kids, my parents never gave into my demands for a GameBoy Color no matter how much I nagged. I had to wait until my birthday and when I was badly behaved my mum took it off me straight away no questions asked and wouldn't give it back until I had behaved impeccably for a few weeks.
Plus this silly woman didn't even seem to know the name of what she bought her kids, so shows how much she looks into what she buys her kids,. This article is total nonsense though I suppose it fits considering this is the Daily Mail.

my unpostable comment

Oh joy. How lovely to see another paranoid mum spout their pessimistic opinions based entirely on issues localised to them.

I'd like to mention that I myself am an avid game player, I won't hide that. Sometimes, I can clock 6 hours a day on uninterrupted games. And I'm not corrupted at all.

Kids argue. This is a fact of life. I won't make this 'Rosie Millard' out to be a bad parent for it. I will make her out to be a bad parent for trying to solve her kids blatent behavioural issues with a games console. It's a Nintendo DS, not some sort of wonderbox.

If you decided to buy your children a games console (something which you initially protested against) for the sake of making yourself more mentally fit, then I do believe that makes you selfish, at the very least, and a terrible parent at the most.

I do wish parents would look into multiplayer games to bring a family closer together, rather than single player ones that could only ever serve to split them apart.
