What things were you afraid of as a kid that you look back on now and realize they were stupid things to be afraid of?

For me it was ALF. I dunno why, he creeped me the fuck out.

    Look at him. He's gross

    Princess of Pink.

Alf reminds me of John Travolta for some reason. Could be the hair I guess.

Um, I was scared of my Furby. It's big eyes and weird little beak was totally creepy. The new ones have like digital eyes or some shit and fuuuuuuuck that. It had enough emotion to freak me out as a kid.

Also, dire dire docks and the last stairway to Bowser from Mario 64. Dire Dire Docks is kinda self explanatory, but the infinite stairway before the final Bowser battle always freaked me out as a kid. The combination of the music and Bowser's ugly face on the wall passing by me over and over. There were quite a few things in Mario 64 that freaked me out when I was young honestly.

When I was 8 or so, I got chased around by a big dog. In hindsight, he was probably just trying to play, but I was deathly afraid of mutts for several years afterwards. I quite like them now, though!

I also HATED bugs. I still do, but I did then, too.

Clanker's Cavern and Rusty Bucket Bay scared the shit out of me. It was mostly the fact of running out of oxygen while underwater. Fuck swimming levels.

I totally agree with you on the Furbies, VL, those things are awful.

I remember this music video scaring the hell out of me when I was little, too.

@giygas: Your profile says you were born in 1997, how on earth do you remember Alf?! Did you actually see repeats of that show? I remember that show when it was new and I haven't seen it aired since, at least not here in Canada.

Anyways, when I was a kid, spiders terrified me and they still do. I remember when I was a kid I was screaming in my bed that there was a billion spiders on my legs, but it was a dream. It felt so real, though.

Mother Brain from Captain N freaked me out as a kid, too. She didn't really scare me, she was just weird and creepy. Also, Mother Brain from the original Metroid freaked me out the first time I saw her and that was when I was an adult. Damn, Mother Brain is creepy in the original Metroid, the music, the atmosphere, everything.

Oh, yeah, they never showed repeats, but we had a few Alf VHS tapes. I hated them.

Oh I remember another one. There used to be this cartoon lion used in commercials that scared me as a kid.

He haunted me in my nightmares, until I had a dream where I shot him up with a minigun, that will stay with me forever. After that day I was never scared.

@Pyroll, Spiders are a legit fear. It's just so wrong to have so many eyes and legs.

I hate bugs now but when I was a kid I didn't. Back when I was a kid I used to pick up grasshoppers and crickets and pull their legs off :O. At the time, though, I didn't really realize what I was doing, that I was hurting them. I guess I kinda saw them as if they were toys. I also used to catch white butterflies and put them in jars with holes in the lid. When I would take them out of the jar to play with I would hold them by the wings with two fingers and make them walk around like they were toys. I could never touch a bug now, especially not a butterfly by the wings. When I would hold them by the wings, I would feel their wings trying to move between my fingers. Thinking about it now makes me cringe. The wings moving between my fingers.

To this day I'm still not crazy about large bodies of water. I'm cool looking at them, but not that into going into them.

Other than that nothing much got to me as a child. The worst I can think of is a few episodes of Are You Afraid of The Dark. Going back it's funny how poorly produced that show was, and it scared the shit out of me.

The Game Over screen in Banjo Kazooie as well as the moon in Majora's Mask. Those were both really freaky to me and caused me to instantly turn the game off sometimes.
