I'm sure you've heard the news by now - Nintendo has some new hardware in development, codenamed the NX. They've also partnered with a mobile phone developer called DeNA to produce Nintendo IPs for mobile devices. Since I love hearing your opinions, let's talk about these suckers. Why do you think Nintendo's doing this all now? Does it have to do with the Wii U? Do you think the NX is a new console, or some supplementary hardware? And do you want the new Donkey Konga on your mobile phone?

I think it'll be really interesting to see what happens with this.

On one hand, Nintendo's stock value has jumped 60% in the two days following this announcement. It's at its highest since 2011! Basically, Nintendo needs to follow up strongly - they've got the investors, they've got the fans, they've got an enormous arsenal of IP... They need to do this right. They're being honest about their current state of affairs, at least - Iwata said as much, saying that he's not going to be complacently satisfied with the WiiU's current situation

And I have confidence, based on post-announcement interviews with Iwata and Miyamoto, that at least their hearts are in the right place. For instance, Iwata seems well aware of the dangers of weakening Nintendo's IP value through shoddy games and exploitative payment methods. Their entire goal here is to increase Nintendo brand recognition and ultimately turn people towards Nintendo's PRIMARY offerings (being Nintendo console/handheld games). So the philosophy here is to get as many people as possible to play their smart phone games in order to spread awareness, not necessarily to pinch every penny out of consumers with devious payment tactics. At the same time, they don't want to simply port old games, but create new, specifically-tailored quality software for smart devices.

Of course, this is all talk... we'll see what actually happens when it comes down to nitty-gritty, practical reality.

I'd say they could port those NES Remix games to smartphones pretty easily, wouldn't you say those translate pretty well as smartphone games? Maybe WarioWare? A lot of people know Wario. :o
    Add me on Steam, maybe.
