Welcome to the forums! If Dimentio returned, we could probably expect another game with decent-to-good writing and fine music crippled by truly awful level design, a lame gimmick that wasn't really interesting to begin with, and art assets that look like they were made in a graphing program. |

Aww, I love Super Paper Mario! Mostly for its writing and story and music - the presentation elements of the game. It has such a unique feel to it, and some seriously cool moments in a Mario game. Dimentio returns... I assume it'd be in another Mario RPG, similar to the way Fawful has been/was a recurring villain in the Mario&Luigi games. Anyway, welcome to the forums! |

Super Paper Mario was one of those games that I really loved, even though it was a complete change from the original formula. If Dimentio returned he would maybe be disguised as someone else until the end? That way you wont know it's him. |

OK, this might not be the best thread to ask, but I will anyways. Is Paper Mario Sticker Star a good game? It has far and away the most polarizing reception of any first-party Nintendo game I've ever seen. Is it actually fun? I actually haven't played the first two Paper Mario games (well, not past the tutorials, anyway), so I'm kind of looking to play one, and I can grab Sticker Star free on Club Nintendo, so... |

I've not played it, but from what I've gathered, Sticker Star, as a game on its own right, is actually a fun, creative gameplay experience. However, aside from the (actually really fantastic) use of the paper concept, don't expect it to represent ANYTHING about what the original Paper Mario games are about, gameplay-wise. It's just a completely different thing. That's the main reason why the game was so polarizing, as you said. It was not what series fans wanted. The biggest thing, I think, is that the plot is very much reduced in Sticker Star (compared the excellent plots and characters of TTYD and SPM). Instead of there being a "world" to explore, the game is mostly set up on stage-by-stage basis, IIRC (someone might need to confirm this). This DOES provide a background for highly-focused level design, though, even if it diminishes world building. But yeah, from what I can tell, the gameplay is pretty fun and it makes brilliant use of the whole paper concept (better than any of the previous games). |

Uh, well I played and beat Paper Mario Sticker Star, and I personally enjoyed the game. Honestly it's a game you either like or hate. It's not the best Paper Mario game at ALL, and I have played all of them multiple times (besides SS). I would say it was the weakest game out of all of them. As a Paper Mario game, Sticker Star is closer to the first two than Super Paper Mario was, but it lacks something I find really important to the style they went for, and that's a level system. The game can honestly be ran through without any real need to fight anyone (besides boss battles you obviously can't skip). You don't level up and all the new abilities are handed to you throughout the game as you need them, so there isn't any reason to fight the baddies walking around. I fought them, but that's because I just enjoyed the game, but even I skipped my fair share of battles or specific enemies because I was just tired of the pointlessness of it. The only real reason to fight is to collect sticker types, which there is a collection system to let you collect one of every kind. And in bigger battles, it's not really about your experience using the battle system available, rather it's about figuring out the right stickers to use that make logical sense to defeat them. Everything new they brought to the game was good in it's own right. The individual level system, the stickers as battle moves, the glittery shit, were all good. Each added something good to the game, but the lack of reason to battle rendered the stickers useless (sorta). The lack of a level system breaking the battles is the main point people bring up when they bash on the game. It's still a fun game, and I would pick it up for free on Club Nintendo over paying for it. I still wished the game was more like the original two or even another Super Paper Mario, because then it would have been more fun. But it has it's good points and it still is a good game (though I felt it was pretty easy, but it is kind of long, so that's a good thing). If you want to try a Paper Mario game, and you didn't like Super Paper Mario, then go for the original or TTYD, because both are amazing games. I would also recommend any Mario & Luigi title. They are very similar when you get past the visual differences. |
