Tsujimoto Explains Some of the Crossovers in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

    Posted Image

As Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate gets closer to its release in the West, more collaborative content news being announced to fans varies between being Awesome or Ridiculous: you can dress as Link, have Isabelle and Mr. Resetti run alongside as sidekicks, or get a Felyne dressed as Sonic the Hedgehog.

Over on Siliconera, an international video game blog, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate producer Ryozo Tsujimoto pulls the curtain back a bit on how these crossovers were brought to life. In Sonic's case, Tsujimoto said the game's western release was a significant consideration, and that Sonic's wide-ranging popularity made the idea of tapping connections at Sega sound wonderful:

"Since we’re doing an overseas version of this game, it made sense to do some sort of collaborative crossover that would make sense globally. So I had an associate of mine at Sega introduce me to the person in charge [of licensing]. We shook hands, made the deal, and there you go."

Getting Nintendo on board sounded just as easy a proposition, according to Tsujimoto:

"As you know, Nintendo helped a lot with development and they’ve been very good partners, so we wanted very much to take some kind of a Nintendo IP and do some sort of crossover that seemed to make sense from our point of view. And of course, with us on the development side, when you think of Nintendo, the first thing you think of are Mario and Zelda characters. Certainly, for those of us on the devteam that are in our 30s and 40s, that’s exactly the first thing that comes to mind."

Capcom went to Nintendo, asked nicely, and an agreement was worked out to add some Nintendo influence into the game. And yes, this does include Mario and Luigi.

There are additional crossovers that have a decidedly Japanese flavor, such as the adorable hunting horn based on Taiko: Drum Master, but it's nice to hear the international audience has been in mind.

Final Renders and Sculpts for Mega Man: The Board Game Take Shape

    Posted Image

While many people are enjoying being able to play as Mega Man in the new Super Smash Bros., let's not forget the fully unplugged experience coming in the form of Mega Man: The Board Game. Developer Jasco games has been working steadily on the project since they reached their Kickstarter goal early this year, and the work-in-progress is looking quite amazing.

Jasco recently showed off some final renders and sculpts for the board game's figures, each receiving approval from Capcom. Color is next, and then it shouldn't be much longer before the game lands on the shelves of stored worldwide. For those curious how the game works, you can see a how-to video below:

Super Smash Bros. is Selling the Most in Japan Once Again

    Posted Image

Once again Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has topped Destiny and sold over 100,000 units in the past week in Japan. This, and the fact that it has sold 2.8 million copies sold worldwide is a very sturdy figure to be leaning upon. The PS3's new entry in the Kingdom Hearts series couldn't beat the new Super Smash Bros., but did manage to just sneak ahead of Yokai Watch 2, which comes in at an impressive number 3 given its age. Elsewhere in the charts the Playstation systems are over throwing Nintendo's hardware within the previous weeks with many titles. The Wii U still holds three positions and the 3DS manages a total of six, so it could be a lot worse (lifetime sales are in parentheses):

    1. [3DS] Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS – 105,619 (1,481,433)
    2. [PS3] Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix – 84,935 (New)
    3. [3DS] Yokai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke – 62,887 (2,655,326)
    4. [3DS] Forbidden Magna (Marvelous, 10/02/14) – 23,250 (New)
    5. [PSV] Danganronpa: Another Episode – 15,334 (85,930)
    6. [PSV] The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II – 11,600 (97,884)
    7. [PS3] The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II – 9,645 (75,134)
    8. [PS4] Omega Quintet – 9,365 (New)
    9. [PSV] Ar nosurge Plus: Ode to an Unborn Star – 9,240 (New)
    10. [PS3] Destiny – 7,317 (87,307)
    11. [Wii U] Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven – 7,105 (34,610)
    12. [PSV] Ciel nosurge Offline – 7,078 (New)
    13. [3DS] Nazotoki Battle Tore! Densetsu no Makyuu o Fukkatsu Saseyo! – 6,739 (New)
    14. [3DS] Haikyuu!! Tsunage! Itadaki no Keshiki!!– 4,777 (48,615)
    15. [3DS] Dragon Quest X Online – 4,696 (48,615)
    16. [Wii U] Mario Kart 8 – 4,517 (682,767)
    17. [PS3] F1 2014 – 4,366 (New)
    18. [PSV] Dungeon Travelers 2 – 3,843 (20,303)
    19. [PS4] Destiny – 3,442 (114,214)
    20. [Wii U] Bayonetta 2 – 3,398 (49,196)

With the release of the New 3DS in Japan, the 3DS has taken a huge drop in sales, even with Super Smash Bros. making the impact it has. It seems the Japanese public are waiting to get their hands on the new hardware rather than settle for the years-old models available right now.

The Wii U has dropped in sales somewhat, but still maintains the third position overall (last week's sales are in parentheses):

    1. 3DS LL (XL) – 16,130 (22,988)
    2. PlayStation Vita – 13,510 (15,739)
    3. Wii U – 7,805 (9,950)
    4. PlayStation 4 – 7,350 (8,033)
    5. 3DS – 6,360 (7,451)
    6. PlayStation 3 – 5,365 (6,026)
    7. Xbox One – 1,062 (1,113)
    8. PlayStation Vita TV – 922 (977)
    9. PSP – 84 (102)
    10. Xbox 360 – 80 (143)

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy to Come to North America and Europe this December

    Posted Image

According to Capcom, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is coming out in December on the 3DS eShop. The company made its announcement during the "World of Capcom" panel at New York Comic Con. North American Ace Attorney fans can expect the game on 9th December, with a European release two days later on 11th December.

Ace Attorney Trilogy packages the first three games of the series: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations. Each title has received some visual remastering both in art and text, while still retaining all the drama, twists, and eternal [step]ladder debates of the originals.

The entire trilogy is set to sell for $29.99/€29.99/£24.99 on the 3DS eShop.

Toadette Confirmed as a Playable Character in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

    Posted Image

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will grace stores in North America on 5th December, and now finally has a release date for Europe. It is in January 2015, as previously confirmed — it'll come out in the region on 9th January. It may be spinning off from the bonus levels in Super Mario 3D World, meanwhile, but this retail release seems to have more going for it than many may have anticipated. Nintendo's confirmed that there'll be "more than 70" stages.

Evidence of this is found in the rather terrific new video for the game, which shows off a number of new areas and mechanics — some of these make use of the GamePad touch screen and gyroscopic sensor, with examples such as aiming and shooting. In addition to some particularly fun new stages and confirmation of the Double Cherry as an item, this video also introduces Captain Toadette, who is sort of kidnapped but appears to be heroically stepping into other stages. New Nintendo 3DS Videos Show Off How To Replace Faceplates and Micro SD Card

    Posted Image

In preparation for getting the New Nintendo 3DS next year when it comes out in North America, you'll need more than just a higher-capacity micro SD card — you'll need a screwdriver and a willingness to mess around with small screws. Nintendo's Japanese YouTube channel has gone positively New 3DS crazy, while also showing off videos for each and every HOME menu theme. Some videos promoting the new model have been posted to show basic instructions, such as completing settings, setting up parental controls and so on, yet videos for inserting micro SD cards and 'Kisekae' faceplates have caught much attention. During the system's reveal — for exchanging the convenience of popping in an SD card for removing the back of the system to insert micro variants in the New models, it's now clear just how much fiddling around is needed for switching out that memory.
The faceplates are no different, with some unscrewing needed to place one of these on the back of a system. At least the stylus has been designed to help manoeuvre loosened sections off. Click on the links below to see how to replace the New 3DS' faceplates and micro SD card:

Anway, we're kind of in a lull period waiting for more substantial news, so it seems. What with Smash WiiU and Pokemon remakes on the horizon, and many mysteries beyond that, we'll just have to wait and see.

    Hates fun.

Here's hoping the versions of Phoenix Wright they put in the trilogy aren't the awful IOS upgrades that have loads of terrible dialogue mistakes.
