    Opinions on the game Splatoon?

Well, with E3 2014, I think we noticed at least on Nintendo's part, a lot of trailers and footage from Nintendo's new 3rd-person-shooter, Splatoon.

The game is basically a four-man team of 'Inklings', and the whole goal is to cover the entire map with your color paint, while trying to also shoot the other team's inklings. The squid feature pretty much makes the game as well!

This video pretty much explains the main parts of the game:

Now, as for my opinion on it, at first I didn't really think it was a real solid game. But after seeing some more footage of the game and what people were saying about it, I guess it seems pretty fun to play! With being able to voice chat in-game as well, it should be a great online shooter, and hopefully will have local play too!

I don't think the game is worth $60 out of my pocket however. But if it were $20 or so, then I would be more than happy to pick it up and give it a try!

Plus, even if I don't really like the game itself, the designs are just so ADORABLE!

So, what are your opinions on Nintendo's new shooter? Will you give it a try, or just like the way the game is designed?

I agree with your last sentiment - this game would have to contain a LOT of maps, character customizations, game modes, weapons, etc - for me to even consider paying $60 for it. It looks like loads of fun, and I would love to play it - especially if it had local co-op, but I'm not paying $60 on what we saw at E3.

Ok, well this is actually VL.....

After watching like a solid 3 hours of gameplay on the Treehouse at E3, I am really excited about this game. The gameplay itself looks solid and what you would expect from a Nintendo take on the shooter genre. I also would need more content to warrant the $60 purchase, but the inclusion of local co-op is actually a huge part of the decision for me. Since me and Icecatraz live together (and we have two brothers) it would be incredibly lame if we couldn't play together.
However, I remember one of the devs saying something about the intention to add many more maps/weapons/and other content to the game before it is released, so who knows. But who knows what will happen.

As far as the inkling designs go, I love them! I actually already drew a picture of the female one on Miiverse a week or so ago in the E3 community.

I agree there's not enough content to warrant a $60 purchase. Not to mention, I don't get into too many multiplayer shooting games because they all kinda start to feel the same, even when they're incredibly different.

Basically, this wouldn't give me a reason to buy a Wii U. I'm fine with playing TF2 or something, just because of the variety.

Yeah, especially with he mere footage we saw just being a demo, there's way more chances f more content and maps being added by its official release!

I also heard about Splatoon being online-only, but I'm pretty sure with such a high demand they'll add in a local-play option. I hope that happens, it would be much more convenient!

Yeah same! A lot of people actually wanted a Mario Sunshine game that featured the inklings, or at least a cameo from them in the game!

Yeah, I can understand! If anything, it's just really the designs at this point that make me wanna check this new game out. A lot of people had positive feedback on it, so I guess it's worth the try!

Well if the game does end up being online only I think I would likely wait until the price is heavily reduced before picking it up. Seems pointless to alienate the local gameplay friendly Nintendo trait when they could easily add in a co-op feature even if you can't play online with multiple local players.

But yea, when I saw the intro for the game during the digital presentation, I thought it was a Sunshine remake/sequel. The disappointment was pretty real when it wasn't a blooper swimming through the ink....

I think it looks really neat! It's interesting that you don't need to shoot the other team, you just need to paint the walls and floors with as much paint as possible. I remember my friends and I trying to paint the walls in GoldenEye with the paintball mode cheat, so it's kinda like that. Fun times.

Do you think it'll be released on the 3DS? If it does I'll probably check it out.

I doubt they will port it to the 3DS. It seems like a game they will want to market specifically for the Wii U in order to help boost sales and increase the pool of good games available for the Wii U.

But I would likely play it on the 3DS as well.

    Hates fun.

I don't think Nintendo would ditch local co-op. They're heavily into genuinely social gameplay; I've seen lots of interviews where they've said that they don't want to make kids who play video games sit on their own in the dark screaming into headsets. They've not been to keen on Oculus because it's so solitary. Plus, Mario Kart came with online / local play, so it can't be unlikely.

I think Splatoon looks pretty sweet; it looks like Nintendo are doing for arena shooters what Mario Kart did for racing games or Smash Bros did for fighting games. I can see it having a lot of depth for what it is. I'm looking forward to it.

True, that does make sense. I also think they have a lot of room to add a lot more to make the game really interesting (aside from what was shown at E3).
