http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/new-hyrule-warrior-images-story-details-impa-is-playable-and-more ^ This link has some important info bullet points, as well as links to OTHER media, like scans and story details. I don't really want to divulge it all here - I'll just post a few major details in a sec - so if you're interested, you should check it out! --Original characters, original story --Voluminous cleavage (people are getting up in arms...!) --Impa playable, many others playable --Targeting system --August 14th Japanese release, 70% complete --Multiplayer with 2 players confirmed --Japanese release comes in several different sets with added perks (like a physical treasure chest box, in-game costumes, etc) CHARACTER PROFILE TRANSLATIONS: http://www.zeldauniverse.net/2014/05/22/more-famitsu-translations-shias-motives-minions-named-link-and-impa-detailed/ Here are a bunch of screenshots of Link, Impa, and the new characters, as well as a handful of environments: http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/37-brand-new-hyrule-warriors-screenshots-featuring-link-shia-wizro-valga-an Wow, I guess they decided to let the news blowout happen BEFORE E3. I'm sure they'll still show it off with a cool new trailer and such at E3, though (along with Western release date). I am officially very excited for this. I know it's a spin-off, and it definitely is very "Dynasty Warriors" as opposed to traditional Zelda, BUT MY INNER FANBOY CANNOT RESIST I guess this thread can linger until E3, after which more will be shown of the game and we can come back? Oho, is this character from the Dynasty Warriors series? (I realize I could just look it up, but where's the fun in that?) CHARACTER PROFILE TRANSLATIONS - edited into OP http://www.zeldauniverse.net/2014/05/22/more-famitsu-translations-shias-motives-minions-named-link-and-impa-detailed/ Ohohoho, so Shia's got a thing for Link, eh? This story is going in... interesting directions. Wizro seriously looks like the Poe Merchant from OoT and MM (the little ghost guy with the single red eye), and Valga has got "Volvagia" written all over him. I still don't know about this game, guys. I hope this doesn't start a trend where Nintendo starts farming out their most popular franchises to make middling games. This game is doing absolutely nothing for me. |

Have you tried any of the Musou (Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors/Warriors Orochi) titles? They're VERY shallow. Like, there's LOADS of content - customization, characters, music, etc, but the gameplay is VERY repetitive, and there's about 3 enemies in the entire game. It's very meh hack and slash, with like, 5 combo strings per character. However, Nintendo is spear heading the design aspect of the game, and Anomua himself is watching over the project. I don't think there will be nearly the amount of characters in this title as some of the other titles (SW4 has fucking 55), but I think what we will get is *hopefully* at least maybe 15, and all of the 15 will be balanced and customizable properly. The Musou series typically has different factions, as well. I'm hoping that what we'll see is something like this; Hylian Faction Leaders: Princess Zelda, Impa, Link Generic Units - Hylian Soldiers, Mounted Hylian Soldiers, Hylian Magicians Dark Faction Leaders: Shia, Wizro, Volvagia Dude Generic Units - Bokobolins, Moblins, etc Goron Faction Leaders: (Goron Leader 1, Goron Leader 2, Goron Leader 3) Generic Units - Tamed Dodongo, Goron Infantry, etc Something like that. I have a feeling that we'll see a lot of characters made specifically for this game because of what it is - I don't think Nintendo would let us have say, Darmani, from OoT, and then the Goron Hero from Majora's Mask. I'd love to be wrong, but that's what I see. I think the benefit of this ordeal is two-fold - we get a great alternative Zelda game, and Nintendo prints money. Apparently, the Zelda series doesn't do as well in Japan as it does over here....but the Musou series (SW/DW/WO) sells like CRAZY. I'm actually SUPER excited for this. I love Zelda, and I have a guilty pleasure for mindless hack n' slashes. If this game has loads of characters, classic Zelda music, etc - I'll be happy. And yes, Lu Bu is a Chinese general from the DW titles. Also, I remember reading somewhere that someone had a theory about this title - that the story takes place after Skyward Sword, when the races are getting used to each other and settling down. I'm sure this will be a non-canon story, but I think it'd be a cool setting. That could be Skyloft.... Edited by IceCatraz, May 23 2014, 01:05 PM.

@Ice: No, I've never played any of the Dynasty Warriors games but looking at videos like, say, this, makes me never want to try them. I can pretty much guarantee I'll never try this game, but if the reviews come out and are extremely positive I might have to reconsider. |

Yeah, that's what I mean. It's very button mashy. But, I'm hoping that, with Anouma's super vision, the game will turn out differently. I mean, they're actually porting over Z-targeting, so maybe the game will be a bit more methodical than it is repetitive. I think it's too early to tell, but I'm stoked either way. The largest issue with all of the Musou titles is easily the repetitiveness. The repetitiveness is derivative of the fact that there are SO many characters to choose from, that each character doesn't get the time nor care that it deserves. I'm hoping that, with less characters, each character will feel fully fleshed out and unique, as opposed to just model swaps with different color weapons. |

Hyrule Warriors is now confirmed as the English title, just so y'all know. Also confirmed to be playable at E3, with a new trailer and more character reveals. NEW/UPDATED INFO: http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/more-hyrule-warriors-details-plus-e3-extras#.U4C7ZrSZufQ ^This confirms what Ice was thinking about - that the different characters will, you know, actually be pretty different, based on their weapons and fighting styles. We've already seen the differences between Impa and Link, so this is looking good. Also a "character growth system" and weapon upgrades. You know... I'm willing to put up with monotonous gameplay and rather anti-Zelda game design for the sake of a fun, fan-pandering diversion, but... some aspects are going a bit too far, IMO. Like the story? Apparently, the initial story prompt is that the sorceress character Cia (English name) wants to make the world hers, but also wants to "make Link hers", being jealous of his and Zelda's relationship. I mean, if we needed any more evidence that this was born of a fangirl's wet dream, then... we just got it. But whatever. I'm sure it will be more complex than that in the end. Also Ice, that almost HAS to be Skyloft. You can see the Statue of the Goddess on one of the islands to the right. I suppose this might take place BEFORE Skyward Sword, during the war that happened between Hylia and Demise - or maybe right after Hylia sends most of the humans into the skies. Interesting, anyway. |

One thing I'll say is that most Nintendo developed/published games on the Wii U have an amazing visual flair to them. Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, The Wind Waker HD, Tropical Freeze, and now this. Sure, the Wii U isn't a PS4 (or an Xbox One) but Nintendo sure as hell knows how to get the best out of that system. |

^ Very true. I'd like to see what something like Monolith Soft's "X" looks like nowadays, as unlike most of these other games, it uses a more realistic style. Then again I guess Pikmin 3 kinda did as well, and even though that was very early-WiiU, from what I've seen it looks really good. And then of course there's Zelda U... if there's any game whose hype could benefit from making it look very nice graphically, it's Zelda U. |

So, a few updates: The game is coming out really soon - September 26, 2014 in the States. With that being said, we'll likely see the characters, stages, and everything else dumped ahead of time because the game comes out August 14th in Japan. Midna is playable! She's actually one of the last characters I expected, as she's an exclusive one, and I didn't think she'd be overly playable without Wolf Link....but she is! This gives u hope for a butt load of other characters. Any wishes for specific characters? More items from the Zelda series are set to appear, as well. Anouma said that the Fire Rod shown wasn't the one from the Zelda Universe, so I'm sure that'll be the case with most of the items. Still and yet, the Gust Bellows have been confirmed as an item, as well; ![]() Oh, and the Great Fairy isn't horrifyingly ugly anymore! |

Not to be sexist, but is Link really the only playable male character in this game? I hope they add more male characters soon. |

I believe they said that there wouldn't be many male characters at all. I'm thinking around 2-3 overall. They are going for mostly female playable characters. Which is no surprise considering the team making this game. |

They said that the majority of characters in the game would be female. So I'd think the ratio would be something like 8 to 1, in terms of ratio. Either way, though, I think it's a cool idea. There's a good bit of interesting Male characters, but there are far more interesting female characters. In my opinion, any way. |
