So Nintendo released one of it's first foorays into the "Free to Play" market - Steel Diver: Sub Wars. It's a "First Person Submarine Warfare Simulator" that has an interestingly deep and simple combat system, 4 on 4 online multiplayer, 2 Free Ships, (18 Total Ships), and 10 Single Player missions (2 of which are included in the free version).

Has anyone played this? I downloaded it to play with my little nephew, and it's a LOT of fun. I haven't played online yet, but I did a 3-person battle with Alani and my nephew (and 5 NPC's) and it's a crap ton of fun. There certainly needs to be more modes, and I haven't unlocked anything, but it's loads of fun. I'd love to get NF in on this, if anyone is interested.

I played most of the single player that you can play in the Free-to-Play version, which is the first two missions (but there are three levels to each missions and a bonus challenge to clear a missions level within a certain amount of time). After I stopped being stupid about the controls, I found it to be really fun.

I unlocked like one pattern, which is about all you can get without paying for the game (though I'll have to beat mission 2 on level 3 to find out for sure). I still need to play online myself.

Not sure if I'm going to buy it or not - still recovering from the Guild sale - but the other subs look cool.

I saw the guys on Giant Bomb play about a half-hour of it. It looks awful.

You should actually try it - it's free. I thought it looked pretty bad in the Direct trailer - I only downloaded it to play with my nephew - and it turned out to be a lot of fun.
