Today's Nintendo Direct brought very interesting news. Little Mac from Punch-Out!! was confirmed to be a new character for Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS. A successor to Steel Diver called Steel Diver: Sub Wars is available today on eShop. There are two versions of this game. One is the full game with all its features. The other is a demo-like version with only two ships, for FREE! A sequel to NES Remix, properly called NES Remix 2, was announced, and will be available for download on the Wii U eShop on April 25. It will also come with "Super Luigi Bros.". A summary of the whole direct is shown below.Wii U News Game Boy Advance Titles To Hit Wii U Virtual Console From April Onwards ![]() Whether it's the desired platform for the portable's games or not, Nintendo today used its latest Direct broadcast to provide an update on progress bringing Game Boy Advance titles to the Wii U Virtual Console; after a fairly lengthy delay, we know they'll start to arrive in April. While no pricing details or a firm release date beyond the month were given, Satoru Iwata showed three games that will be the first to arrive on the service, and they're all top-notch. - Metroid Fusion - Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island Those that are 3DS Ambassadors from Summer 2011 will have already enjoyed Metroid Fusion and the Yoshi's Island port on the handheld, but Superstar Saga is a hugely popular — and rightfully so — title that'll be a more than welcome arrival. It'll also be interesting to see how well these GBA titles stack up on the Wii U; I suspect that the GamePad screen will give a more pleasing visual performance than a full size HD TV. Bowser's Koopalings Join the Cast of Mario Kart 8, Launches 30th May ![]() In today's much anticipated Nintendo Direct, CEO Satoru Iwata announced that Mario Kart 8 will officially be launching on 30th May in both NA and EU; this follows the late January confirmation that it was to be a May release. Iwata-san also announced that a few new "unexpected" characters will be added to the game's roster. For the first time ever in the series all seven of Bowser's minions will be playable drivers. Click the video link below to check out the new trailer to see Iggy, Larry, Lemmy, Ludwig, Morton, Roy and Wendy in action! Wii U - Mario Kart 8 - Here Come the Koopalings Trailer Monolith Soft's X Combat is Shown Off, Based on Xenoblade Chronicles System ![]() While JRPG fans that adored Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii may have been hoping for a release date for Monolith Soft's latest in Nintendo's most recent Direct broadcast, we had to settle for some real-time in-game footage of the combat system. It was exciting to see, as it was the first time that a sustained period of gameplay had been shown without cinematic flair getting in the way. Satoru Iwata explained that the combat in Monolith Soft's X is based on that of the popular Wii title, though naturally the development team are seeking to make improvements. As a result there's the team dynamic and real-time move selection, with the quick-time-event boosts and recharge periods for attacks also present and correct. In the two minutes of footage shown the lead character also jumps into a mech to finish off a small creature before engaging into a larger battle; we'd speculate that mechs can only be used for limited periods of time, as the player eventually exits for more hand-to-hand fighting. For those that enjoyed the intense, real-time battles of Xenoblade Chronicles — which I certainly did — this looks enticing. Nintendo hasn't released this excerpt of the Nintendo Direct separately as yet, so check the trailer out by clicking on the video link below: Monolith Soft X Wii U New Gameplay 1080p Trailer Full Gameplay Walkthrough NES Remix 2 Will Bring Even More 8-Bit Favourites To Your Wii U ![]() When the original NES Remix hit the Wii U eShop late last year, it took us all by surprise. Thankfully it was a nice surprise and is still a favourite. Who could resist a second helping? During tonight's Nintendo Direct broadcast it was revealed that NES Remix 2 will be released on the Wii U eShop on 25th April in both Europe and North America; the price for North America will be $14.99, with none given yet for Europe. This time the mini-games will revolve around these NES classics: - Ice Hockey - Wario's Woods - Zelda II - Super Mario Bros 2 - Dr Mario - Kirby's Adventure - Super Mario Bros 3 - Kid Icarus - Punch-Out!! - Metroid - Mario Open Golf - Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels Dare I say it, the list of games appearing in this edition is even more tantalising than the first instalment. This promises to offer even more addictive 8-bit antics. As if all this wasn't enough, NES Remix 2 also comes complete with a Super Luigi Bros. game. It will basically be the entire Super Mario Bros. title but played as Luigi in reverse. Replaying this classic game running from right to left should certainly mix things up, and in addition to this Luigi's high jump is also included; that might compensate somewhat for your disorientation. SNES remix next please! A Radiant New trailer For Child of Light Emerges, With A Slight Change To The Euro Release Date ![]() Ubisoft's artistic action-RPG Child of Light has been drawing plenty of attention since its announcement last year, and yesterday's Nintendo Direct has treated us to yet another gorgeous trailer. There's plenty of gameplay brought to light as the young Princess Aurora battles, explores, and puzzles her way through the world of Lemuria. The trailer also focuses on her companion Igniculus, a firefly that can actually be controlled by a second player. Work together, and the guiding light can distract enemies, leave messages and heal your party. It's all looking pretty sumptuous, ready to launch on Wii U and other platforms on the 30th of April in North America, and the slightly altered date of 1st May in Europe. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata championed a "huge number" of collectibles to be found in the game, most notably a set of 8-bit keychains depicting characters from different titles in Kirby's 20-plus-year history. These keychains can be found in levels, but also received through the StreetPass feature of Triple Deluxe. The friendly, bandana-sporting Waddle Dee from Kirby's Return to Dreamland will show up in levels to toss the pink hero items. If you have a StreetPass tag, the item will be more helpful, and if the tagged player also owns a copy of Triple Deluxe, Waddle Dee will toss out a keychain as an extra bonus. Kirby has to keep the keys to the Dragoon somewhere, I guess. Sun Stones will also be collectible in levels and are used to unlock the way forward to bosses, although Iwata promised a special bonus for players who find them all. You'll Be Able To Customise Your Mii In Mario Golf: World Tour's Swanky Castle Club ![]() Die-hard Mario Golf fans will be pleased to know the latest Nintendo Direct today provided new information regarding the single-player mode in the upcoming Mario Golf: World Tour. In addition to previously announced multiplayer features, the game will also include a section called the Castle Club. This area is a clubhouse hub where players can access golf courses, tournaments, training areas, shops, locker rooms and even a cafe. The clubhouse will not only let players hone various aspects of their game, but also allow them to customise their Mii characters with items from the shop - in a similar fashion to the Mario Tennis Open club room. Customisation options available include clubs, golf balls, and of course, clothing. Like Mario Tennis Open’s clothing customisation, different combinations of gear will affect player performance. Mario Golf: World Tour is due to launch in North America and Europe on May 2nd. Click on the video link below to see the new trailer: Mario Golf World Tour -- Teaser Trailer Free-To-Play Title Steel Diver: Sub Wars Breaks The Waves Today On The 3DS eShop ![]() Anyone remember Steel Diver on 3DS? It was an idea Nintendo originally pitched as a demo for the dual-screen capabilities of the original DS, but only really saw the light of day as a full release on its 3D successor. Ironically enough, it went under a lot of people's radars at the time, but Nintendo announced at E3 last year that the lesser-known franchise would continue on as their first free-to-play title. Steel Diver: Sub Wars was finally revealed during today's Nintendo Direct broadcast, and is available for download from the 3DS eShop right now. Described as a more ''contemplative'' take on the traditional first person shooter, players will take control of a submarine and its crew in a series of single-player missions, as well as in a competitive 4v4 online multiplayer mode. You'll have to time your movements carefully to make the most of the vessel's slow-moving torpedoes, encouraging tactical gameplay and some quick maneuvers. As such, the game hopes to appeal to a wider audience, especially those who wouldn't normally be interested in other first person titles. The free-to-play model previously announced will offer everyone the chance to play a more basic version of the full game at not cost, allowing curious captains to test the waters. The free version comes packaged with the first two single-player missions, two basic subs and full multiplayer capabilities. If you want a much wider selection of subs with varying stats to customise and collect — along with the rest of the single-player missions — then the premium edition can be purchased for a one-off cost. Click on the video link below to check out the trailer for a first look at this unique shooter: Nintendo 3DS - Steel Diver: Sub Wars Announcement Trailer Super Smash Bros. For Wii U/3DS ![]() The latest Nintendo Direct didn't tell us when Super Smash Bros. is arriving on Wii U and 3DS, aside from '2014', but there was a rather pleasing reveal for the title. Little Mac, the hero of the Punch-Out!! series, arrives as a challenger for the first time. The trailer shows the pugilist in action and certainly demonstrates how well the development of the Wii U version, in particular, is progressing. Edited by Brendan, Feb 16 2014, 05:17 PM.

So.... why are the GBA virtual console games on Wii U instead of the 3DS? That's, like, nonsensical. |

Haven't you heard? Wii U sales aren't doing too good. This is Nintendo's cheap way of getting more Wii U sales.

I think it's more than sales. These titles are already available as hand held titles, and while the current line doesn't play them, their previous hand held line does. This expansion let's those who have a WiiU but don't have a hand held play them. I can only imagine there will eventually he an update that let's you link them to your account and play them on your hand held, but as it stands, it's the only way for those with a console and not a hand held to play Minish Cap on their large screen TVs. I'm sure there's more to it. Either way, I'm down for playing SSS again |

^ Yeah, given that, like LK said, it seems at first glance completely nonsensical, there MUST be some higher reasoning to it. Your logic seems sound, and I DO think that they eventually plan on letting you link your account to play VC games on both 3DS and WiiU. But yeah, Superstar Saga is a fantastic game. I might have to nab that one. More importantly, however... MOTHER 3 THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME --Mario Kart 8 looks really, really good. Like I don't even buy Mario Kart anymore (don't got people to play it with much), but I am seriously tempted to because of how amazing it looks. Everything else looks quite solid as well, although the main thing that interests me is Professor Layton, which comes out IN TWO WEEKS OMG. Emmy is my favorite character in the series - I can't believe they gave her a whole trailer; that was so cool! |

I may be the only one who feels this way, but when I hacked my Wii, I had a GBA emulator on it. When it was hooked up to my big screen, those games were so sexy, even if they were a little stretched out. Being able to play those games on the big screen for those who are into legally buying games, well this is the shit for them. Honestly depending on the price, I may re-buy some of those games for my Wii U. I love being able to play all those games on any console I have on hand. As for the Koopalings, I don't mind them, but I just hope that they don't replace anyone. That would be kinda annoying. And Little Mac is cool. I figured he would join Brawl. |

Babump Thinking about it now, as long as they don't drop any of the good characters, I might be okay with the Koopalings. I hate when Nintendo introduces a new character, like Honey Queen (who may or may not have been a good choice to begin with), and then just drops them next game. I hated that we couldn't play as Petey in Wii or 7, and the fact that Waluigi wasn't in 7 at all (despite how much I don't like him) it's nuts. So to that extent, I'm okay with Nintendo reaching back and bringing the kids back, so long as we see more of them. |

^ Yeah, their character selection for games like this is really weird. I mean like... this isn't exactly Smash Bros - not every character has to be perfectly tweaked and balanced and differentiated. In theory Mario Kart could easily have something like 50 characters every time - so what if there are "clones"? In my experience most of the "stats" of the driving comes from the actual karts themselves rather than the characters. Although that said, if they had so many characters that could significantly decrease the amount of unique, character-specific karts. So I dunno. |
