So SEGA announced today that the second exclusive Nintendo Sonic title that's coming out will be titled "Sonic Boom" - it's coming to the Wii U, and the 3DS. It'll be the prequel to an upcoming new CG-animated comedy/action show, also titled Sonic Boom, to be shown exclusively on Cartoon Network. The game (and show) will feature a 'new look' on the Sonic franchise, and will feature redesigned levels, enemies, and most importantly, characters. Below is the current cast for both the game and the show: ![]() ![]() The game itself is visually appealing, running on CryEngine3, featuring multiple high levels of GPU threading, and multiple lighting states. ![]() ![]() The game is slated to release later this year, probably along side the show. A few things to note: Game - the show and games will be accompanied by new toys by Tomy - the games are prequels to the show - Wii U game includes an energy tether used for more than just puzzles - game will center on an adventure in an ancient land - lots of exploration and melee combat - also includes high-speed traversal - 3DS game will feature a different story and level architecture but happens in the same world -- Sonic Boom is a Wii U/3DS exclusive - prequel to the new Sonic CG TV show - Wii U version being developed by Big Red Button, a team led by former Naughty Dog staff - utilizes the CryEngine 3 - characters have been completely redesigned to fit the new aesthetic and engine - Eggman has gotten a makeover as well - characters will have specialties based on their strengths and personalities - Knuckles will focus on strength - Tails will utilize gadgets - Amy Rose will have agility - Sonic will have speed - four playable characters total in local co-op (no online) - at least two of them will be on screen at all times, even in single-player - swap between characters on the fly - 3DS version in development by Sanzaru -The Games aren't coming out in Japan, and is being made completely and solely by western developers. TV Show - one episode of the show has Sonic firing Tails from his sidekick position - Eggman applies for the position - Eggman tries to get into Modern Lair Magazine and, after losing again to Sonic, he fakes an injury and takes Sonic to court - co-op mechanics will also factor into the toys - the new take on Sonic won't replace modern Sonic - both games are being developed in collaboration with Sonic Team - series is expected to air in North America on Cartoon Network during the 2014-2015 season - will feature 52 11-minute episodes - game overall is similar in structure to Sonic Adventure, in that it'll feature a main hub and missions branching off that - no release date given yet What do you guys think? |

Knuckles is a good example of why you shouldn't skip leg day. As for the game: it's a Sonic game. |

It's a Sonic game not made by the Sonic Team. Bioware made a pretty good Sonic title in Dark Brotherhood. Also |

^ While I did not at all enjoy Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood, I'm totally open to another shot at a non-Sonic Team game. But yeah, this seems... interesting, at least. Four player co-op in a Sonic game is neat, and honestly I kinda like how they're mixing in different play styles in speed sections, melee sections, exploring sections - kinda like the Sonic Adventure games! @Ice That pic... is so perfect. EDIT It's too bad this game doesn't take from THIS Sonic Boom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPC8W672mXc Edited by Togeshroob, Feb 7 2014, 10:46 AM.

Sega said lost world sold about 650k - not bad at all for a Sonic title - especially not an exclusive one with a console with a low out put. Either way, this was part of Nintendo and Sega's deal, so it would've happened even if lost world ranked. |

Hopefully the 3DS version will have some local co-op mode. It seems pretty decent. I too dislike the new design of Knuckles. It's not his height that's bothering me, but rather the fact that he has athletic tape taped on his "knuckles" (pun intended). I also think they should remove Sonic's bandana/scarf. I don't know why, but it just looks odd on him. Other than that, I look forward to the video game, as well as the Cartoon Network TV show. |

I like Amy's new design. She looks more sultry than annoying as FUCK. And I dig that. |

I think she was referring more to her facial expression than her clothing. Her clothing says she's ready for a day shopping. Her face says she's ready for some hardcore hedgehog action. I think that's what she is, anyway. |

Is that a skirt Amy's wearing? Almost looks like she's only wearing a top with something wrapped around it. Picture number 1. Look at picture number 1. Edited by Pyroll7, Feb 9 2014, 04:55 PM.

It looks like one of those shirt-skirts. Either way, better than her current design. |
