Hyrule Warriors![]() Nintendo and Tecmo Koei have announced during today's Nintendo Direct a brand-new title which unifies the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors. Hyrule Warriors — working title — takes the combat-heavy gameplay of Tecmo Koei's popular Warriors franchise and adds a dash of Nintendo's famous action adventure series. The footage shows Link laying the smack-down on hordes of enemies using a variety of powerful attacks, including spinning slashes and bombs. The game is due for release some time in 2014, and Nintendo President Satoru Iwata was keen to stress that this isn't the next instalment in the Zelda franchise, but an entirely separate title. Kirby: Triple Deluxe ![]() Kirby: Triple Deluxe launches in Japan on 11th January, just a few weeks from now, but today's Nintendo Direct broadcasts didn't narrow down the Western release any more than '2014'. Nevertheless, we did get to see a lot more of the game in action and learned of some additional mini-games that will be featured. First of all Satoru Iwata showed footage of the main game in action, emphasizing the ability of Kirby to jump into the background and foreground at various points, which should look rather attractive on the autostereoscopic 3DS screen. There were some fun moments, such as a tree falling to destroy a platform in the background, and a train zooming forward towards our here in the foreground. It was highlighted that it'll feature 20 different copy abilities including four that are new to this title, with the Bells looking like a means of stunning enemies; the Hypernova ability, meanwhile, with power up the pink one so that he can cause dramatic damage. Also shown were two mini-games that will feature. First up is Kirby Fighters, a four-player brawl where each character is powered up with one of 10 copy abilities, touted as a way of deciding once and for all which abilities are the most powerful. Then there's Dedede’s Drum Dash, which is a rhythm-based game that tasks you with collecting points while keeping up with popular tracks from the series. Yoshi's New Island ![]() A brand new teaser trailer for Yoshi's New Island was shown during today's Nintendo Direct broadcast, along with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announcing the game would arrive on 2DS and 3DS consoles in Spring 2014 in North America and Europe. The game is being directed by Nintendo’s Takashi Tezuka, who previously worked on Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Sonic Lost World DLC: Yoshi's New Island ![]() Sonic is set to embark on an adventure into the world of everyone's favourite green dinosaur Yoshi, as Yoshi's Island Zone becomes the first of two Nintendo-themed levels available for Sonic Lost World on the Wii U. If this news isn't good enough, you'll be pleased to know that's available to download right now on the Wii U eShop. Better still, it's free. Sonic must race against the clock to save the all the Yoshis by finding their eggs, whilst encountering enemies such as Piranha plants and Shy Guys, as well as those from his own world. The second themed DLC level will arrive next year at an unknown date, and if Satoru Iwata's hints are to be believed, it will be based The Legend of Zelda series. Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder ![]() In Chibi Robo, you lead a four-inch tall robot in a quest to collect objects from around you. You'll collect "silhouettes" which you'll then need to photograph using the 3DS camera -- successfully doing so will bring them into the game. There are also numerous minigames, largely based around helping out various weird and wonderful characters who show up over the course of the game. It'll feature community-based events, challenging players to showcase their creativity on a common theme, and potentially earn new outfits for Chibi-Robo in the game. Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder is coming to 3DS via the eShop on January 9 -- there'll be a free demo version available too. NES Remix Screenshot During today's Nintendo Direct extravaganza, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed NES Remix, a title previously outed in a rating by the Australian Classification Board. Available from today in the Wii U eShop, it contains mini-game versions of 16 classic NES titles, including the likes of Super Mario Bros., Excitebike and Donkey Kong — it'll cost Ł8.99 / $9.99 in Europe, while it appears to be $14.99 in North America. Satoru Iwata outlined that it'll feature two distinct modes — Remix stages will have new challenges and twists at every moment, while NES stages will be more traditional but still have tweaks to the formula. The key goal is to set impressive scores, and Miiverse integration will include posting these ratings as well as stamps, designed to keep its community colourful and lively. Mario Kart 8 Screenshot Today's Nintendo Direct broadcast was bursting with new information about a host of Wii U and 3DS titles, and those looking forward to Mario Kart 8 weren't left disappointed. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed a whole host of fresh info about the forthcoming Wii U racer, including new tracks and characters. Rosalina will be joining the fun — it was confirmed that she's going to be in Super Smash Bros., as well — and various “Baby” Nintendo characters, such as Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, were also confirmed to be making the cut. As far as new circuits are concerned, you'll be able to race around an airport, dash through a desert and soar high in the clouds. Finally, it was confirmed that the range of vehicles will include UFOs, four-wheel ATV buggies, standard karts and bikes. Dr. Luigi Screenshot During today’s Nintendo Direct presentations it was announced that Dr. Luigi will be coming to the Wii eShop. Based on the classic puzzler Dr. Mario, Dr. Luigi also requires players to line up colour-coded pills to destroy viruses. Dr. Luigi offers an original mode called 'Operation L' where the pills are, of course, L-shaped. Operation L apparently makes the game slightly easier to play, as each pill in this mode is essentially two capsules fused into one. In Germ Buster mode - as featured in the Brain Training series - the Wii U GamePad is held vertically and the touchscreen is used to rotate and drag pills to their desired location. A Dr. Mario mode is also included. The game features a number of difficulty and attack settings in multiplayer games, which can be played locally and online. One of these attack settings rewards players for lining up combos, which then affects their opponent by changing their next pill at the last second, ultimately making things more difficult for them. Dr. Luigi launches on the Wii U eShop on 31st December for $14.99 in North America, and on 15th January for Ł13.49 in Europe. Wii Sports Club Screenshot Rumoured yesterday due to system maintenance targeting its app, Nintendo today used its Nintendo Direct broadcasts to confirm that Wii Sports Club: Golf is available right now in Europe and North America. When you log into the game (or download it for the first time) you should automatically receive a free 24-hour trial of the title, after which you can buy a day pass for Ł1.49 / €1.99 / $1.99 or a permanent club pass for Ł8.99 / €9.99 / $9.99. The broadcast footage showed that, as expected, you place the GamePad on the floor and use it as a window, or sorts, when striking the ball — you can see the ball and its lie, and swing over the GamePad with a Wii Remote Plus. In terms of content there'll be some training games, while you can swing into the original nine-hole Wii Sports course or a new design based on a nine-hole course from Japan-only Famicom Disk System game Famicom Golf: U.S. Course, which itself was based on NES title GOLF. Local and online multiplayer will naturally be included as they were with the previous Wii Sports Club titles. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Screenshot Today's Nintendo Direct broadcast did bring us more footage of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, including an introduction to the story, more of the playable Cranky Kong and examples of the Kong Pow move. The video gives a nice look at a variety of environments that are relatively new, too. It was also confirmed that this'll arrive in Europe on 21st February, the same release date as in the Americas. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Screenshot The Pokémon Bank goes live on December 27th, and to encourage fans to make use of the service, Nintendo and Game Freak are giving those who download it a special treat. If you download and access the Pokémon Bank application on your 3DS between December 27th, 2013 and September 30, 2014, you'll be rewarded with the "Mythical Time Travel" Pokémon Celebi. This creature comes with Hold Back, a move which cannot be learned via normal gameplay and which always leaves the target with at least 1 HP. This Celebi also has the moves Recover, Heal Bell, and Safeguard in its arsenal. You'll need to use the Pokémon Link feature in Pokémon X & Y to gain this special Celebi. After receiving the Celebi gift within Pokémon Bank, selecting Pokémon Link will deposit the new monster into your PC Box within the game itself. Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Screenshot It's not that long since Nintendo confirmed that Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was getting localised for release in North America and Europe in "early 2014". During today's action-packed Nintendo Direct presentation, Satoru Iwata brought European 3DS owners the good news that the game's arrival date is 28th March 2014. The crossover features elements from both the Professor Layton and Ace Attorney series, where both characters are forced to pair up in order to solve puzzles involving a young girl named Espella, while also exploring the mysterious city of Labyrinthia. A release date is yet to be given for North America. Bravely Default Screenshot While European gamers are fortunate enough to have Bravely Default available on 3DS now, it seems North American gamers will also have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the game ahead of its retail release. Nintendo of America has confirmed that a demo for the title will hit the region's 3DS eShop on 2nd January, and stated that it'll consist of a side quest story "with hours of content not included in the main game". As well as that content, StreetPass will be possible with both the demo and the full game, the latter of which arrives on 7th February — these hits have bonuses such as the ability to speed up building tasks. In addition StreetPass tags, item packs and registered friends will be transferable from the demo to the retail game, so the hours put into the free offering certainly won't be wasted. The standard game will retail at a recommended price of $39.99, while select retailers will offer the limited edition — which includes the game, an art book, a soundtrack CD and 34 augmented-reality cards — for $49.99. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe Screenshot Today's European Nintendo Direct broadcast certainly showed a festive spirit, with Nintendo of Europe President Satoru Shibata outlining a "Nintendo Network Promotion" to encourage 3DS owners in the region to either create an ID or link their Wii U equivalent. Nintendo Network IDs were added with the major 3DS system update on 10th December, and a new promotion will offer a free game to those that have already setup an ID on the portable or do so before 31st January 2013. That free download will be Game Boy Color title Super Mario Bros. Deluxe; it's a remixed and enhanced version of the seminal NES game. It includes new challenges, adjustments to the gameplay and even a two player vs. mode on top of the classic platformer. Download codes will be sent to the email address linked to your Nintendo ID after the promotion closes, between 13th and 28th February 2014. So far, this promotion has only been confirmed for Europe. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Screenshot Today's European broadcast wasn't all about games, but also revealed an attractive collectible that's up for grabs on Club Nintendo; it's a diorama based on this year's terrific 3DS release Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. This is available right now on the European Club Nintendo stars catalogue, with a meaty asking price of 7000 stars. It has also been listed on Nintendo of America's Club Nintendo priced at 1500 coins, but that's for pre-orders ahead of a March 2014 release. Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash. Bros For Wii U Screenshot It has been revealed during today's Nintendo Direct that Rosalina and Luma will be adding their strength to the Super Smash Bros. line-up on Wii U and 3DS. The announcement came in a rather cheeky video which began with Kirby racing through the Rainbow Road circuit with Kart-riding Mario and Donkey Kong, leading some to speculate that it was a confirmation that the pink puff-ball would be appearing in Mario Kart 8. However, the video soon switched to pugilistic matters, with Rosalina and her star-shaped pal taking centre stage Super Mario Bros. 3 Screenshot t's been in demand since Nintendo teased it earlier in the year, and it's almost here. Super Mario Bros. 3 with arrive on the Virtual Console for both Wii U and 3DS on 26th December; it was announced in the European Nintendo Direct by Satoru Shibata, though unfortunately had no mention in the North America equivalent or in the subsequent press release — as a result this is just confirmed for Europe. The classic NES title is one of the finest platformers ever created, and so the hype around having it available on the latest systems is understandable. It was responsible for various ideas that would become the norm in the Mario series, and is certainly a candidate to be considered the best ever NES game. Its Boxing Day release in Europe will also come with an initial discount, costing Ł3.49 on 3DS and Ł2.79 on Wii U; it'll then revert to Ł4.49/€4.99 on 3DS and Ł3.49/€4.99 on Wii U from 2nd January 2014. Nintendo of Europe Confirms Upcoming eShop Discounts Screenshot The Nintendo Direct broadcasts were certainly full of surprises, with some reveals also coming in as little as 10 seconds of video. One announcement that's worth pointing out for those that missed it in Europe is that there's an extensive range of discounts coming over the next few weeks, covering retail and download-only games. Below are details on the discounts highlighted as available now and on the way: Wii U Retail Downloads ZombiU — €9.99 / Ł7.99 from 26th December to 2nd January Rayman Legends — €20.99 / Ł16.79 from 26th December to 2nd January Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag — 30% off from 26th December to 2nd January Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist — 50% off from 26th December to 2nd January Resident Evil Revelations — 50% off from 26th December to 9th January Wii U Download-Only Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams — 20% off from 19th December to 26fh December Zen Pinball 2 — 50% off from 19th December to 2nd January Toki Tori 2+ — 40% off from 19th December to 2nd January TNT Racers: Nitro Machines Edition — 35% off from 19th December to 2nd January DuckTales Remastered — 40% from 26th December to 9th January Cloudberry Kingdom — 50% off from 26th December to 2nd January 3DS eShop Attack of the Friday Monsters! ^Probably. That's totally Dynasty Warriors - I can't imagine it would look any better. It's looked like a PS1 game ever since it's been made, and I don't think it'll ever look any different - even on the PS4 or Xbox One. Hell, 6 and 7, and Warriors Orochi 2/Z/X ALL look like PS2 games. That being said, I'm actually super stoked for it. I love that Nintendo is letting third parties use their first parties, and the series is known for having absurd amounts of characters. I can only imagine who'll be playable in the title. |

DID ANYONE ELSE SEE REGGIE ARM WRESTLING HIMSELF? That was the best part of the show. Of course, aside from: ROSALINAAAAA Hyurle Warriors looks like your average Zelda fan's pipe dream, haha... but I suppose I'm kinda interested in seeing a non-Nintendo, non-traditional interpretation of Zelda and Hyrule. I'm glad it's not, you know, THE next Zelda game. Although since this is coming in 2014, I think it's pretty safe to say that the ACTUAL Zelda U won't be coming 'till 2015. And lol, I like how they made Link with blonde hair, a more masculine jaw line, and a scarf-thing. Lessee... Everything else looks very cool, although I'm either not personally that interested in it or I'm too tired to blab about it right now. Yoshi's New Island looks really lovely... Yoshi's Island was, like, my childhood wrapped up into one game, so I'm inclined to really like this new game. However, I'm just not sure if I can justify it, what with time constraints and all. Eh. ROSALINAAAAAA Edited by Togeshroob, Dec 18 2013, 11:32 PM.

I don't want to sounds like a Debbie Downer here or anything, but I thought Yoshi's New Island looked kinda bad, too. I don't like the weird quasi-3D look they're going for—it doesn't work with the pastel stuff from the past games. Not that I care about Yoshi's Island, anyways. As for the other stuff: I hope the Kirby 3DS game is cool, though, I haven't played very many Kirby games in my life. Only a couple here and there. And did anyone notice that they showed nothing from that Yoshi yarn game? I thought that was looking really cool, and I loved Kirby's Epic Yarn. But it was announced like a year ago. Mario Kart looks hell of Mario Kart. |

You know, some dude on IGN said the same thing, and like, I think it's the complete opposite. I think this is the style the SNES game was going for, and just couldn't reach. It actually looks like a pastel color palette was used, and almost as if the board itself was made of pastel filings. I think it looks great. The Kirby game looks cool, though I realllly didn't like Epic Yarn, so I'm kinda glad they're not doing another one of those. |

Oh man I hated Epic Yarn. It looked nice but it was such an easy and boring game. I think the yarn Yoshi game will be better, because of how differently Yoshi games play compared to Kirby. As for Yoshi's New Island, i think the style is very artistic and i think they really got the look of a hand painted canvas. I have no idea how it will translate into 3D but i have faith that it will look nice. It usually always does. I think they could have just bitched out and gone with a New Super Mario Bros. 3d model look and it would have been a great game, but i don't think it would have looked th part of a Yoshi's Island game. So either way i like the style, i'm glad they stayed true to the signature design of the series. |

If you ask me, the video they showed on the Yoshi DLC in Sonic: Lost World looked a bit like it was more like Yarn Yoshi, rather than Yoshi's New Island. ![]() In this image, it looks like the trees are made of yarn, or some kind of fabric. |

@Epic Yarn This game simply has one of the greatest soundtracks ever though. Yarn Yoshi is also developed by the same people (Good Feel), so it's bound to have glorious music too! Incidentally, the Streetpass game Mii Force was developed by Good Feel, and it also has a fantastic soundtrack. @Pyroll lolol, I watched it again, and Link TOTALLY looks like a girl. Like Marth-ish, I mean. Forget I said anything. |

@Link's look. You guys think so? I keep reading on other sites that he looks more mature and masculine. That's odd. Either way, I thought the scarf around his neck looked cool. It'll likely be used to show what faction he is part of. |

^ Well I dunno - like I posted before, my FIRST impression was that Link definitely looked more masculine and whatever, but then when I watched it again, I thought he looked a whole lot like Marth (feminine face, kinda like he has in TP and SS). So... I dunno. I really don't care, though - Link usually isn't that masculine anyway :p And uh, faction? Is that how Dynasty Warriors works? |

The Warriors series (Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi) use factions to split up the MASSIVE cast, based on history. So for example, in Samurai Warriors, you have a faction labeled Nobunaga - named after the leader of the Faction, Oda Nobunaga. Anyone who falls under the Nobunaga faction fights for him. "Generals" are other important, main characters that aren't leaders, like the Faction Leader, but are still extremely important. As you play a "scenario" as a character, you alter the history of the story. In addition, as you win, you actually take control of the land you were fighting in, and it both changes the story and bolsters your army. So, to bring it to the Zelda series, it would be something like this: Scenario Name: Fight For Hyrule Scenario Description:: Link and the Hylian Forces defend the castle against Ganondorf's army. Faction Name: Hylian Forces Faction Leader: King Daphnes Hyrule Generals: Link, Princess Zelda, Impa Soldiers: Hylian Soldiers Faction Name: Ganondorf's Army Faction Leader: Ganondorf Generals: Gohma, Phantom Ganon, King Dodongo Soldiers: Army of Darkness Success: If Link Wins (by beating all of the Generals on the Map): Ganondorf retreats into Gerudo Valley If Link Wins (by killing Ganondorf): Ganondorf's army disperses, and Hyrule gains Bokoblins as Soldiers. Gerudo loses their leader. If Link Wins (by Completing the first two): Ganondorf's Armada is erased. Everyone left in Gerudo Valley becomes "Gerudo's Remnants" and ally with Hyrule Failure: If Link loses (by being killed): Hyrule Walls are breached, Hyrule Town is captured by Ganondorf, King Daphnes is killed, and the Hylian Forces are absorbed into Ganondorf's Army If Link loses (by failing to complete objective in time): Hyrule Walls are breached, Link, Princess Zelda, and Daphnes are captured and thrown in jail, and Hylian Forces are absorbed into Ganondorf's Army Something like that. It's actually super cool, and it's exciting to see how they are going to incorporate the Zelda series into the title. Is it going to be maybe a Civil War? Look at Hyrule Castle in some of the later shots. If it is, will Link side with the Hylians? Maybe the Kokiri? |
