Nintendo Japan Confirms an End to Wii Production

    Posted Image

Not so long ago Nintendo Japan issued a statement to confirm that it was planning to bring Wii production to a close; this very much followed the manufacturing policy that had been taken with the GameCube to Wii transition. However, Nintendo may be missing an opportunity by dropping the hugely successful system so soon. Nintendo could have ruled the micro-console market with Wii.

An updated notice on the Wii product page now states that manufacturing has ended, suggesting that once existing stock is sold that could be the end of the system. That said, Nintendo of Europe reacted to the previous update by stating that it had no specific announcements of its own to make at that time; the widely-held assumption is that when the Kyoto headquarters made that move the effect would be worldwide — at the time of writing Nintendo of Europe's statement to us is unchanged from its previous update.

The Wii has sold over 100 million units and delivered a memorable library of games. If this is indeed the end, then the little system that dared to provide motion-based standard-definition gaming — in a perceived age of HD and FPS dominance — deserves warm praise.

Just Dance Kids 2014 Features Over 30 Tracks And A Dance Director Mode On Wii U

    Posted Image

Just Dance 2014 was released earlier this month and its younger sibling Just Dance Kids 2014 has now joined the party as well.

It's available on both Wii U and Wii and as the title suggests this one is aimed mainly at children and therefore features appropriate songs and content. The tracklist boasts more than 30 songs from a variety of pop stars, TV shows and movies with such rousing hits as "One Thing" by One Direction, who have only one thing on their minds - your dance moves!

Of course, there are other unmistakable songs like "Hit the Lights" by Selena Gomez & The Scene, some sound advice from Demi Lovato with "Give Your Heart a Break" and less sound advice with "Put Your Hearts Up" By Ariana Grande.

As with Just Dance 2014, the Wii U edition comes with some exclusives to keep the pulses racing. There's Dance Director Mode, which is similar to the puppetmaster feature in that it allows one player to act as the leader by using the GamePad to surprise players with dance move suggestions in the middle of songs. The all powerful Dance Director can award points to those who display their unique moves and the winner is the participant with the most points, though it's all about the taking part.

There's also Parents Corner, which puts the children's parents in control. It includes a non-stop shuffle, fitness tracker and custom playlists and even lets parents see how many calories their child is burning while dancing. Of course, thanks to the trusty TV button on the GamePad, parents can turn the volume down to zero.

A selection of the tracklist is below for those eager to know what they'll be grooving too. Just Dance Kids 2014 is available now in North America and will be walking onto the dance floor on 24th October in Europe.

    - "Hit The Lights" by Selena Gomez & The Scene
    - "Give Your Heart A Break" by Demi Lovato
    - "We Go Well Together" by Goldheart
    - "One Thing" by One Direction
    - "Put Your Hearts Up" by Ariana Grande
    - "Make It Shine (Victorious Theme)" by Victorious Cast featuring Victoria Justice
    - "Ready Or Not" by Bridgit Mendler
    - "Get Ready To Wiggle" by The Wiggles
    - "The Freeze Game" by Yo Gabba Gabba!
    - "7 8 9"
    - "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)"
    - "Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance)"
    - "Fireflies"
    - "Footloose"
    - "Get Down On It"
    - "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"
    - "I Like To Move It"
    - "Magic Carpet Ride"
    - "Problem (Monster Remix)"
    - "Shout"

    - "The Hustle"
    - "The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room"
    - "Walking On Sunshine"

This Is How Much Space Super Mario 3D World Will Gobble Up On Your Wii U

    Posted Image

Super Mario 3D World is just around the corner, and it has been revealed how much space the game will take up if you opt for the digital download route.

The eagerly-awaited platforming epic clocks in at 1702 MB, which isn't too bad when you consider that Sonic Lost World was a 8475 MB download.

Resident Evil Revelations And Mercenaries Are Half Price On The eShop Over Halloween

    Posted Image

It's that time of year again where people dress as werewolves and other spooky monsters, carve scary faces into pumpkins and dish out candy on Animal Crossing.

Yes, it's Halloween and there are plenty of frightful franchises out there to get stuck into over the season, with Resident Evil being one that springs to mind as instantaneously as a well hidden zombie in a disused cupboard.

To celebrate this year's festivities, Capcom has decided to offer Nintendo players in North America a large discount on some of its titles, namely Resident Evil Revelations on Wii U and 3DS and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on 3DS.

The HD adaptation of Resident Evil Revelations on Wii U will be $19.99, while the 3DS version will be just $9.99 over the period. Meanwhile Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will also be $9.99.

It's not overtly clear when this offer will meet its gruesome end so if you've not yet picked up any of these games, now's your chance. It's not yet known if this deal will make it to Europe.

Shigeru Miyamoto Doesn't Rule Out Additional HD Remakes and a Return to the Mario Galaxy Style

    Posted Image

With the recent release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, the continuing absence of the rumoured and desired GameCube library on the Wii U Virtual Console, and the ongoing and lingering sense that the Wii in HD would have been extra-special, it seems Nintendo is considering future opportunities to satisfy demand.

In a recent multi-publication round table interview, and as reported by Gamespot, Shigeru Miyamoto spoke up on the potential for future HD remakes on the Wii U; unsurprisingly these aren't a priority for the core teams, but as with previous remakes (such as those on the 3DS) could be taken up by second and third-parties:

"As for remaking previous games in HD, that's certainly possible, but currently most of our developers are working on making new stuff. HD remakes might however be a good project for a development partner. So that's something that I hope we have the opportunity to introduce in the future

The main thing that's always going to be on our minds is what new elements of gameplay can we use with the GamePad as applied to some of these older games. We want to find some way to bring a refreshing experience to this rather than simply update the visuals and leave it at that."

When addressing Super Mario 3D World, Miyamoto-san took the opportunity to emphasize that, while it represents a shift in direction in 3D Mario since the iconic Galaxy games on Wii, it's not necessarily a change that rules out a return to the popular style of its predecessors:

"We did not set out trying to define the future of Mario action games with this title. Rather, we're just trying to find some fun new elements that we can incorporate. So for example, I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility of us creating more games in the vein of Super Mario Galaxy, for example. What we're trying to accomplish here, is just to create a really good entry point for new players into the Super Mario 3D games."

Shigeru Miyamoto Clarifies That Local Multiplayer is Still the Priority for Mario

    Posted Image

Super Mario 3D World is shaping up as a title of significant potential, and certainly far more than a quick and easy HD upgrade on 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land. It may share branding and some common items with the portable title, but is also unique in its own ways and, unlike that 3DS release and many — not all — of the 3D-based Mario titles in the past, is making a big play of local multiplayer; importantly it's a mode where everyone engages fully, so there's no player relegated to simplistic pointer or touch screen-based assist duties.

With plenty of footage and previews doing the rounds, the thoroughly reasonable question is being asked why this title won't include online multiplayer options; that would have been ideal for those that wanted to play with friends or family that they can't visit at the drop of a hat. Shigeru Miyamoto was asked just that by Kotaku at a video round table interview with multiple outlets, and explained the thinking behind the absence of online play in the new Mario title and recent release Pikmin 3:

"While online play is certainly technically possible for us, it simply wasn’t the focus for us this time around. What we really wanted to do was to create something that people could experience fully while playing comfortably with others who were nearby them, and this is something we decided would be best for Pikmin and the best case for Mario here as well.

Now that is to say the answer to this question might change in ten years time, if there’s a future game where for example we don’t think it’s important to be able to see the face of the person you’re playing with, then we might be able to focus more on some online function there. But for right now our focus is really on a comfortable play experience with people in the same room."
