Oh mah goodness, today was one of those amazing, out-of-nowhere Nintendo Directs! Lots of neat stuff was talked about and/or shown off about games we already knew about, so while there were few surprise announcements, great things were said.

LOOK AT THIS 3D WORLD TRAILER, LOOK AT IT

I am totally convinced. I thought it looked pretty cool at E3, but I was kinda disappointed it wasn't on the scope of Galaxy, but this is pretty much the deal seller! Really neat overworld system, lots of neat power-ups and mechanics, everything! Wow! And that music! That music is just... it's just perfect for this game :D I really think this game has what it takes to be, you know, "that next great Mario game."

    Other notable stuff:

A Link Between Worlds got a new trailer, and it's supposed to be very non-linearly designed, which is really neat. This is the first time they've really put a big focus on designing dungeons and the world in such a way as to be very non-linear in quite a long time. Also it seems like they've put a lot of good work into the game's characters and world. It'll be very interesting to discover all the connections - obvious and subtle.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has been delayed to February 2014. While this is kinda disappointing, I'm okay with it because this looks like an amazing platformer and I won't have time for it anytime soon anyway ;p

Kirby has a new 3DS platforming game. There was a trailer, but I didn't watch it, so I don't know what's going on actually. At least Kirby is back again!

Sonic is playable with SSB4. Crazy they announced this so soon after Toon Link (who was so soon after Peach), but hey! I was hoping Sonic would be back - he deserves that spot. Looks like his stage is based on his upcoming Lost World.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, the really pretty JRPG-thing that was announced forever ago, is actually being localized for the states. There's a character trailer and everything. Pretty darn cool!

And... other stuff, like DLC for Pikmin 3, a couple new Wiimote designs, Link's shirt in Animal Crossing, Olympic Games, stuff like that.

    In short:
    3D LANDWORLD OMG

Hmm, 3D Land looks better than I thought.......

But I only watched like 2 seconds of the trailer, about half way through, because I don't want to see anything of this game until I play it.

A Link Between World's art is fucking FANTASTIC.

Also: I'm super psyched about the non-linear progression. You basically get to play the game in the order you want.

EDIT: Oh, and Super Mario 3D World looks great—better than I thought to be honest. The new Kirby game looks kinda awful, though.

    You mean 3D WORLD.

Don't worry. I did it too.

Hahaha, wow, thanks for pointing that out Pyroll. 3D Land is pretty great as well :p

But WOW I had not seen all that ALBW art! That is indeed fantastic stuff! There seems to be such personality in this game and its characters, and I am super excited to see what it's all about. The fact that they're actually really going for non-linearity is pretty huge. As y'all know, that was one of the big things about older Zelda games. I just wonder if this is a throwback to those games or if it's a new trend for the team?

Oh Nintendo, why must you be so amazing? At least with the 3DS - that little machine has been - and will continue to be with X/Y and ALBW - constantly glued to my hands all year :s

That 3D World game looks fucking amazing. I can't WAIT to play it. They usually add one, two, maybe 3 new things to each new version of Mario titles lately, but this one adds a whole bunch, and it's turning out to likely be one of my favorite Mario titles thus far.

I hadn't seen that Zelda artwork either. I'm glad you posted that link, LK. That is some REALLY nice artwork.
