Man, Nintendo has really been giving their Wind Waker remake a LOT of attention - much, much more than they did with the OoT remake (which was basically an updated port). Here are several of the things that make the Wind Waker HD worthy or your time: 1. It looks gorgeous. Like, really really good. They really have put a ton of detail into updating this game's looks. Textures are redone, lighting is drastically improved for much greater ambience and mood, character models completely updated... They even redid a lot of the concept art, adding a bunch of new stuff! Here's a page with a bunch of updated/new character/concept art! 2.) Music has been remastered. While it's NOT orchestrated or anything, the music has been redone using higher-quality sound samples - so the songs will be the same in composition, but they will sound much better. If you watch some of the latest trailers, you can definitely notice the difference! Again, this is something that they DIDN'T do for the OoT Remake. 3.) Tons of new features! A "Fixed" Triforce Quest? Hero Mode right from the start? Link can take selfies using the Pictobox?! This is not to mention the entirely new Miiverse functionality, which works as a kind of "message in a bottle" system. You can write Miiverse messages in the game, and send them "out to sea." Other players will find these "messages in a bottle" occasionally washed up on a beach. 4.) It's the Wind Waker! One of the most imaginative, magical games in the entire series, with one of the most thematic, interesting plot lines and scenario, with absolutely awesome music, and obviously awesome gameplay! Honestly, for me, they didn't even need to do all the other stuff, but hey, I'm glad they did! ------------------ What're y'all's favorite new features? I have to say, out of everything, Link taking selfies is pretty much the best thing ever thought of, IMO. Will y'all be getting this version of the Wind Waker? I know I will :] Edited by Togeshroob, Sep 6 2013, 04:27 PM.

Honestly, I don't think it looks much different than the original..... Maybe it's because I've only played the game once. I'm sure some of you that have played this game many times see the difference, especially if it's your favorite game. I don't know, I know it's different, like better lighting and what not, but it's so unnoticeable to me. It's weird though, the first screenshot I saw, (the one that I had said looked more polygon than the original), looked a lot different to me compared to the original game. Every trailer or screenshot that I see now looks almost exactly the same to me as the original. |

It doesn't look much different, no—it just looks sharper. I don't think it was Nintendo's intention to make it look any different because the Wind Waker already looked fantastic from the beginning. The Wind Waker HD is just an improved version. |

People are really making it out though that it looks A LOT better. It literally looks exactly the same to me. What DOES make it look better is mostly the fact that it's in HD, not so much anything that was changed. shroob you said: "Man, Nintendo has really been giving their Wind Waker remake a LOT of attention - much, much more than they did with the OoT remake (which was basically an updated port)." I honestly think that OOT on the 3DS looked more different than the original OOT compared to Wind Waker HD and the original Wind Waker, because they changed his face and the town and what not in OOT 3DS. And I never thought that OOT on the 3DS looked much different than the original OOT to begin with. Edited by Pyroll7, Sep 7 2013, 01:52 PM.

That's because they built OOT3D from the ground up with different models, landscape thresholds, and new textures. WWHD was up scaled, re-textured, and it's lighting engine was redone. To be honest, it does look a LOT better, and it's because the lighting is a lot better. There's no way they look "Exactly the same." Not to mention that it's obviously rendered at a much higher resolution and that the texture-shaders are running at a much higher speed. It's just a better looking game, and it's definitely noticeable. It's not a 2D to 3D jump - but putting the two side by side shows a rather apparent difference. Either way, I'm holding off on buying the game. Alani quite literally JUST finished playing the game, and I'm in no rush to play it. I'll wait for a used copy or something, much later on. It does look great, and it's certainly worth the money. Edited by IceCatraz, Sep 7 2013, 02:38 PM.

I'm assuming the first picture is the original? If it is, I actually like the lighting better in the first picture, it's more noticeable and it looks like the sun is shining more, it also looks more like artwork and looks more cell shaded. The second picture, which I assume is the HD one, looks more smooth, but it still doesn't look THAT different. I wouldn't be able to notice a difference unless I was to always have a comparison picture of the original beside the HD one. I actually notice the difference with the colour the most, the HD one looks like it has better colour, at least in that picture. Actually, I think the biggest difference, other than the HD, is that the HD one might look less cell shaded. |

lol the HD remake one IS the first picture. The second one looking smoother is because there's less light/shadow contrast. It's kind of like comparing a flat art style, like say Pokemon, to a 3D render. It's "smoother" because the color and light contrast is way less. |

You can't be fucking serious. Are you sure? I thought the first picture looked more choppy, you know, like N64 choppy. |

Choppy? I'm not sure that'd apply to either picture.... HD is a resolution - if anything looks odd it's because the WiiU version was compressed to fit the same aspect ratio that the original ran in. Watch a side by side comparison video, or anything, really - the game is gorgeous in HD. It's not really an opinion thing - it's a multilateral increase - the lighting is better, the textures are sharper and drawn at a higher rate, and the models have better bone structures vs layering effects. |

Oh - yeah they look jagged. But so do the original ones. I guess it's more apparent because of the lighting, but it's jagged in both versions. It's just the art style, when it comes down to it. |

I have been playing the new version of Wind Waker and it really is fucking great. Playing Zelda for the first time in HD and having it be my favorite Zelda game? It's fuckin amazing. The art style works so well with HD, it looks fantastic. Also one thing I noticed is that now when I play Wind's Requiem you don't have to sit there every time and watch the entire little cutscene thing just to change the wind. It's a minor fix to a small issue, but when changing the wind is done so frequently and is such a major and necessary mechanic of the game, it actually makes a huge difference. |
