So it looks like Atlus is in a spot of bother and Nintendo is the highest bidder. How do we all feel about that? Obviously having SMT snd Persona as part of their IP repetoire would be a real plus for Nintendo, but how do we feel about all the other franchises Atlus is involved with? A boon for Ninty? |

Well I'm a little conflicted... I fucking love Atlus. Catherine is one of my favorite games ever and the MegaTen franchise kicks ass. I also love Nintendo (obviously). I think it sucks that Atlus is so down on their luck right now but if anyone was going to buy them, I'm glad it's Nintendo. I mean, I guess it will suck if they're not making games on other platforms (that will really suck actually). But lately Atlus has been awful cozy with Nintendo anyway, and if this means that it's possible we'll get Atlus characters in future Smash Bros games, holy fuck that would be incredible. I just hope Nintendo doesn't start censoring the everloving hell out of all their future games. Also, they better not do all of Atlus like they're doing Fatal Frame. SPEAKING OF, NINTY WHAT THE HELL. But guys, what if this led to a (real) third Snowboard Kids???

What happened with Fatal Frame? I'm sure Nintendo will probably leave Atlus alone when it comes to censoring stuff, because most ( all? ) Atlus titles that have been released on Nintendo systems have never suffered from any sort of censorship scandal that I've been aware of. Plus, from the way things seem these days; Nintendo have basically taken on one of the JRPG genre's biggest players, so hopefully coupled with Monolith Soft and MistWalker studios, the Wii U will become a really attractive console for JRPG fans. |

-Santos Posting!- Too lazy to log in. Anyway! The likelihood of Nintendo picking up Atlus over say, SEGA, Square, and Sony, I think is much higher because Nintendo is actually one of Index Corp's creditors - index actually owes Nintendo money - and a good bit. I think they're what, fifth on the creditor listing? I know SEGA is on there as well, but the other two Mega Giants aren't, and I think Nintendo would be more willing to pick up Atlus than SEGA. That being said - the article has a great point - Nintendo's been treating Atlus great lately, and they could have been doing it to groom the inevitable merger. Though, I honestly think it'll be another holding company that picks Atlus up. Honestly, a I've been doing some reading and there are some who don't' want Nintendo to buy Atlus - it'd spell the death of SMT titles and obscure JRPG publishing (such as the Dept Heaven series) on other consoles. Which I guess is a bad thing for them, but ultimately, I probably wouldn't care because hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng, Atlus x Nintendo gogogogo. But if Nintendo doesn't pick them up, I'd hope it'll be another holding company that doesn't care about what Atlus does, like Index did. We should know relatively soon, actually - the bidding is rumored to start this week or next, so who knows! |

Exactly! ![]() The last legit Fatal Frame that a region outside of Japan received was Fatal Frame III on PS2 in 2005. It's my understanding that Nintendo has bought out the majority of the rights for the IP, but they're not doing shit with it. They made a Fatal Frame 4 on the Wii in 2008 and it sold incredibly well in Japan but everywhere else got the shaft. And I don't count that disgusting "spinoff title" on the 3DS, (Spirit Camera) to be anything. The series has basically been forgotten. I'm a relatively new fan of Fatal Frame but it's still depressing. I guess it's not entirely Nintendo's fault. Survival horror games just aren't as big now as they used to be (like many other non-fps genres) but it's still a bummer. I don't foresee anything like that happening with Atlus though, if Nintendo does buy them. Atlus is totally rocking that 3DS library. @IceLightning - OH OH OH, Atlus x Nintendo, fuck YES. |

I fully agree with MetaZora. As long as Nintendo allows Atlus to stay their own separate entity like Monolithsoft and just oversees the quality of their product, they could have a very profitable relationship together. I don't see why Nintendo would try to censor their game's anyways. They're allowing Soul Hackers and SMTIV to be on their current handheld console, aren't they. I don't think Nintendo would try to disturb their creativeness.

In a similar manner to say, Monolith Soft or Intelligent - I don't think they'd start censoring them. Both of the mentioned companies have content that is, at the very least, questionable, and they're still hard hitters. Granted, nothing as bad as say, Catherine, or the six breasted Satan in SMT, but who knows. Honestly, it would be cool if they did, but I'm sure a whole lot of other gamers would get upset. At least, initially. |
