Shantae Virtual Console Release Confirmed ![]() Shantae, the Game Boy Color game featuring a spunky young half-genie on a quest to retrieve a stolen steam engine from the notorious pirate Risky Boots, is heading to the Nintendo 3DS eShop towards the end of June this year. The news was posted on WayForward's official blog, stating that the release is confirmed not only for North America, but for the first time the game has been seen in Australia, New Zealand and Europe. The game was originally released in June back in 2002, and has become such a rare cult classic that copies of the cartridge often sell for several hundred dollars online. Three Capcom Games Coming To The Wii U Virtual Console This Month ![]() Capcom has announced on their blog that three classic games are headed to the Wii U Virtual Console this month. The NES game that started it all, Mega Man, became available on May 2. Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts will arrive on May 16 and Ghosts ‘n Goblins (the NES version) is slated for May 30. It has already been announced that Mega Man 5 will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop this month, but Japan’s release of Mega Man 3 for the Wii U VC on May 1 hints at more to come for North America. Capcom promises more releases in the near future. The Force Is Strong In EA’s New Star Wars Publishing Agreement ![]() EA has signed up "exclusive" rights to Star Wars video games following the closure of LucasArts last month. The multi-year deal appears to cover original games, rather than those linked to the forthcoming movies. To confuse things further, Disney has retained the rights to certain mobile, online and tablet games related to the franchise. BioWare, Visceral and DICE are developers all linked with the deal, which is a sign that EA is serious about creating Star Wars games for a "core" audience. Star Wars 1313 — a next-gen title which was feared cancelled when LucasArts shut its doors — hasn't been mentioned as yet, but there's a chance it could be revived as part of the agreement. Here's what John Pleasants, Co-President of Disney Interactive, had to say about the deal: "This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come. Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world." EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau was equally happy: "Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay." Given EA's frosty relationship with Nintendo, does this mean an end to Star Wars titles on Nintendo systems? Given the quality of recent games, that could be a blessing in disguise — but EA's internal studios are a talented bunch. Precursor And Nintendo In "Constant" Contact Regarding Eternal Darkness Successor ![]() Following the announcement of Eternal Darkness "spiritual successor" Shadow of the Eternals, many fans expressed concern regarding the game's link to the Silicon Knights' GameCube classic. If this was a true sequel — as the involvement of Denis Dyack would suggest — then why not call it Eternal Darkness 2? Some have even speculated that developer Precursor hasn't had permission from Nintendo to use the Eternal Darkness name. However, Precursor has posted the following statement on its website: "We have been in constant communication with Nintendo, and they have been very supportive of our endeavour to bring this game to their platform." While that's certainly not a confirmation that Nintendo is fully behind this title using the Eternal Darkness moniker, it does at least prove that the company is supportive of the venture. Perhaps we'll see a name change to Shadow of the Eternals: Eternal Darkness 2 at some point? Life of Pixel Could Make It To Wii U Should It Meet Kickstarter Stretch Goal UK-based developer Super Icon is behind the fun-looking Life of Pixel, which is available to download now on PlayStation Vita. It plays like a platform game and allows you to progress through several eras of gaming by giving you a broad selection of levels based on various classic old-school consoles including the Atari 2600, Sinclair ZX81, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC464, BBC Model B, GameBoy, NES and Sega Master System. Super Icon would like to bring the game to other platforms including PC, Mac, iOS and Android and has therefore started a Kickstarter campaign to obtain the funding. Should it acquire Ł10,000 the game will make it to the aforementioned platforms, but should it meet its stretch goal then a Wii U version will be made as well as a PlayStation 3 and OUYA adaptation. The money will also be used to add levels and achievements as well as some online leaderboards to keep the game fresh. There'll also be more classic 8-bit music on the way. As of May 12 there are 24 days left for the goal to be reached so there's plenty of time for it to amass enough funding for a Wii U version. Road Rash is set to return as Road Redemption reaches its Kickstarter with 48 hours to go ![]() With two days left to go, Road Redemption has reached its initial funding goal on Kickstarter. If you didn't hear, developer DarkSeas games has been Kickstarting a spiritual successor to Road Rash called Road Redemption. With 48 hours to go, they've reached their initial goal of $160,000 so its looking good for the indie studio. However, they have a few extra stretch goals left to bring the game to 360 and even to add support for the Oculus Rift. With two days left to go, Road Redemption has reached its initial funding goal on Kickstarter. If you didn't hear, developer DarkSeas games has been Kickstarting a spiritual successor to Road Rash called Road Redemption. Ubisoft: Watch_Dogs Single Player Can Be Played "Completely Offline" ![]() A lot has been made of the connectivity features in Ubisoft's upcoming title, Watch_Dogs. The game blends single player with multiplayer, allowing others to jump - or 'hack' if you will - into your game to manipulate your surroundings. There's also the ability to connect to the game even when you're away from the living room by using your mobile phone. All in all, the game is pretty connected. However, Ubisoft has been quick to point out that you won't need an internet connection to enjoy the game and you can play through the entire single player campaign on your lonesome if you choose to. Speaking to Joystiq, Dominic Guay, senior producer at Ubisoft Montreal, said Watch_Dogs can be played "completely offline if you want". Naturally, Ubisoft Montreal believes you'll get the very most from the game by opening up your internet gateway, but it's nice to know you won't be forced into playing with others, either asynchronously or otherwise. She's been stuck in a weird lamp or something, right? (Her hair goes in the handle on the right, haha).Seriously, I just realized like a couple of months ago that lamps that genies are kept in are actual lamps. I just never had thought about how that might work out logistically. Saw one with a wick and I was like, "Ohhhhh." Edited by Liongirl, May 12 2013, 03:18 PM.
