Nintendo Preparing to Allow NFC Payments on Wii U in Japan

    Posted Image

Nintendo is looking to expand its business by allowing electronic payments on its home console. Nintendo revealed that they are preparing to allow electronic payments via the GamePad’s NFC (near field communication) reader on the Wii U. While no specifics were given as to when gamers will be able to utilize this payment method, the ability to make payments through the NFC reader would allow Wii U owners to make purchases with touch based payment cards, such as Suica. NFC cards are used often in Japan to pay for train fare and to purchase items at convenience stores.

Nintendo released Pokémon Scramble U (Pokémon Rumble U in the West) on April 18 with the ability to use special NFC figures that can be scanned and used in-game. This Wii U downloadable title also can make use of standard NFC cards which, after scanned, gives players a special assist character. There is still no word if or when Nintendo will make use of near field communication in the West.

The Wonderful 101 Is Focused On "Fun" And Not Game Length

    Posted Image

Director Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games recently tweeted (on Twitter) regarding the amount of play time offered by the forthcoming The Wonderful 101.
"If u hate to finish a game the next day you buy it, u better not play TW101. I focus on how it is fun, not how long it lasts till the ending."

Another follower asked if the game could be compared to Devil May Cry (for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360)
Asmodeus77: "@PG_kamiya So is TW101 meant to be played over and over like DMC?"
    Kamiya responded:
"@Asmodeus77 I hope you enjoy it like that."

It would appear that The Wonderful 101 is going to be quite a short experience, then — but one which has plenty of replayability to make up for it. Games like Star Fox 64 are very much the same — they can be completed quickly, but offer days (or even weeks) of entertainment thanks to the sheer number of possible routes through the game, and included secrets.

Denpa Men 2 Coming to North American 3DS eShop in Late May

    Posted Image

The Denpa Men 2: Beyond the Waves is coming to North America on May 30, according to developer Genius Sonority. It was originally reported to come out in May 2 by IGN. Genius Sonority officially announced the game's North American release on May 2. While it is very likely that a demo will come out before the release, we still do not know for sure when the demo will launch. Like the original, the demo allows you to carry over your save to the main game.
Denpa Men 2 adds an overworld map, an Animal Crossing-like town, and a cool StreetPass mechanic to the dungeon-crawling antics first shown in the last fall's 3DS eShop release. It came out in Japan last September, and still hasn't been confirmed for a European release.

Trio Of Kirby Games Hitting Japanese Wii U Virtual Console This Week

    Posted Image

Japanese Wii U owners are being treated to three Kirby titles in a single week. The games in question are all Super Famicom titles. Kirby’s Super Star Stacker (Kirby no Kirakira Kizzu), Kirby’s Dream Course (Kirby Bowl), and Kirby’s Dream Land 3 (Hoshi no Kirby 3) will cost 800 Yen each, and hit the Japanese Wii U eShop next week.
NintenDaan (Daan Koopman) tweeted last week:
"Next week's JP Wii U VC - Kirby's Super Star Stacker (SF), Kirby's Dream Course (SF) and Kirby's Dream Land 3 (SF). All three are 800 yen."

Rumour: Next Sonic Game Will Go Back To His Roots, Is Coming To Wii U and 3DS, and Possible Name of Next-Gen Xbox Leaked

    Posted Image

It's pretty obvious that Sega is working on a new Sonic game. According to the chaps over at Sonic Stadium, Sega will reveal its plans for a new Sonic the Hedgehog game sometime this year. As reported in January: "A source close to Sega has dropped a few tasty hints to get chins wagging. The title apparently hasn't been decided yet, but the game will be coming to Wii U, PS3, 360, 3DS, PS Vita, PC and "next gen consoles" - which we assume means the next Xbox and PlayStation systems.
The game will fuse 3D and 2D sections, and will allow you to play as different characters, each with their own unique skills. The 3DS version will offer a slightly different experience, and is said to follow the same format as the DS Sonic Rush titles.
Sega's finest coders are working on the game according to the source, and it is expected to see release towards the end of the year - September time, to be exact."

Sega's mascot is a big draw capable of selling thousands of units. This year's offering is still under wraps, but details are continuing to leak onto the web. According to a source cited on NeoGAF, the next Sonic game will be more akin to the 16-bit originals, with gameplay that involves Sonic and his sidekick, Tails.
The two characters will explore cityscapes and communicate with one another during the game. There will also be areas of each level which can only be accessed by a certain character. In addition to the heroic duo, Eggman, Knuckles, and Amy Rose will also make an appearance.
The game is apparently coming to the Wii U and 3DS, as well as the 360, PS3, PC and "next gen consoles" — which means PS4 and the next Xbox. According to the source, long-time Sonic collaborator Dimps will not be handling the 3DS version of the game.
It is also said to be called Sonic Excursion. As reported by NeoGaf, this game will be coming to PS3, 360, Wii-U, PC, 3DS and the "Xbox Infinite". This could possibly be the name of the successor to the Xbox 360.

The Upcoming Okami Announcement Isn't For a Sequel

    Posted Image

The Okami Twitter account of Japan recently tweeted (translated in English) "Hello, this is Okami news. Sorry I’ve been kind of out of touch lately, but I have the feeling we’ll be able to drop a fresh announcement like WHAM! around the beginning of Golden Week, so please look forward to it. Right now we’re on track with preparations."
The "Golden Week" runs from 29th April to 5th May in Japan and includes multiple public holidays.
This tweet sparked wider buzz than anticipated. A new message has been posted clarifying that whatever the announcement entails, it won't be regarding a sequel. ("It is operated by Ichi you like is part topic tweet! "Does Doka to GW dawn" the other day, have Awaawa. ~ Everyone, as if to tell from the front or is good, you should not be in a hurry. Step by step, is one step at a time. This is not a notice in the sequel So, please wait to relax! # OKAMI") Furthermore, Capcom USA Corporate Officer and Senior Vice President Christian Svensson responded to an inquiry on the Capcom Unity forums by advising fans not to hold their breath on the announcement unless they live in Japan:
Whatever it is, it's likely only in Japan... I've got no details on what they were referring to (but as has been stated, whatever it is, it's not a game).
It’s a bummer to fans waiting for another installment of this beautifully stylized series, for sure. We can only hope that we’ll still see new offerings from the sun goddess in the future.

    Level-5 Registers Three New Trademarks

    Posted Image

Level-5's Guild 02 titles are already out in Japan and are on their way to the West. The Starship Damrey will be released first - 16th May in North America - and will be followed by Bugs vs. Tanks! and Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale.
There's been no official news on any development of a Guild 03 series but if Level-5's latest set of trademarks are anything to go by, it could be on the way. Siliconera has spotted three new trademark registrations from the developer in Japan: Wonderflick, Rare Drop Adventurer Note and Earth Devastating B-rank Girlfriend.
Though there is no official link to a Guild 03 collection - or any other game for that matter - all marks were registered on the same day and certainly have a quirky Guild-like feel to them.

Pretty sure the Sonic Rumor was proven to be false.

But I can't wait for The Denpa Men 2. The first one was hella fun.

Um, no. The news in January about the new Sonic game came in January. The fact that its called Sonic Excursion and that it will be more similar to the 16-bit Sonic games was just leaked last week. The same person who leaked this also leaked about Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations before they were even announced. If this person was right about those 2 games, I'm pretty sure he is right about this game. However, if this was RECENTLY proven untrue, then I would like to know more (which website confirms the rumor is false, who on the website said so, etc.). Also, the main source of that NeoGAF post came from Segabits.
