http://kotaku.com/nintendo-is-making-the-legend-of-zelda-a-link-to-the-p-474844199 So... let's see. There was a Nintendo Direct today about the 3DS and the biggest "new" game announcement to come out of it was the announcement of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 (not a final name). If you go to the Kotaku link above there's a video showing off the game (which looks beautiful). I love wall-drawing feature. Very intuitive. I can't fucking wait for this game! There was also a bunch of other announcements too. - A new 3DS Yoshi's Island game, probably called Yoshi's Island 3D. It looks... okay. - Earthbound coming to North American Virtual Console (although I bet this is completely over rated, as I've mentioned before). - Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is coming to North America on August 11th and Europe a little earlier on July 12th. - There's a new 3DS Mario Party game that I have no interest in whatsoever. - Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D has an easy mode (pussies!). - Animal Crossing: New Leaf is going to have a 3DS XL bundle in NA. - Pikmin 3 is coming out on August 4th. - New Wii U system update that adds some more weird setting, I dunno. |

All of that is exciting. All of it. I thought the LttP2 game looked pretty neat until I saw the wall drawing thingy. Now I think it looks fucking awesome. Legit excited over that. New Yoshi's Island: Meh, pretty cool. Doesn't look spectacular but I'm just stoked that Yoshi is getting his own games again. I don't doubt it will be pretty fun. Earthbound VC: Fuckin' finally. I'm not even mad that I paid $130 for a snes copy. I'm a lazy bastard so I'll probably end up downloading this just because I don't want to have to find and hook up the snes. I've always wanted to play through the whole thing, maybe now I'll make it out of Twoson. My only problem, is why Earthbound and not its prequel or even sequel?? Earthbound did have a very limited run in NA, but it at least had one. I should think the fans would be just as, if not more, excited about being able to legally play Mother 1 or 3. (Without having to buy a Famicom and all that bullshit) Dream Team: I haven't played all the way through a single one of the Mario and Luigi rpg's. Every time a new one of these comes out I realize just how far behind I am... Animal Crossing: Yay. Just yay. |

The EarthBound news is ANYTHING but overrated. This is the biggest step in the series life since... since it's original release in 1995! This is HUGE! This is a LANDMARK, and not only for Mother but for Nintendo of America 8D ALttP is still one of the absolute greatest Zeldas; this new game looks absolutely glorious. And Yoshi's Island, whooo! I adore Yoshi's Island. But like... EARTHBOUND *goes to other thread* |

Spoiler: click to toggle Large image ho. Same gameworld, I know, I know, but this seems a little bit lazy. I may be being a bit cynical, but they didn't exactly bring anything incredibly fresh to the table with this Nintendo Direct. I mean, they mentioned new dungeons, so that's alright, but I really hope that they expand the LttP overworld a lot because of all the 2D zeldas it's one of the smallest. |

^ To be fair, there are some minor changes to the world to make it work with the modeled graphics - it's not a simple copy-paste. That said, I too hope (and honestly expect) expansions to the overworld. Or should I say BOTH overworlds? That raises an interesting question - will there be a Dark World involved? The story here is bound to be pretty interesting, at least! Also, Link looks very much like an Egyptian wall drawing, with the side-facing perspective and black lines and all - AND I heard a kind of deserty-Egyptian flair in one of the songs. Will this game have an ancient-Egyptian theme? It'd make sense, what with the PYRAMID of power (not that the Egyptians were the only ones with pyramids, but they're easily the most prominent and most easily relatable to ALttP's pyramid). Honestly, the best thing about it is - RETRO LINK IS MAKING HIS RETURN 8D |

The Yoshi's Island game looks kinda weird. Some of it, maybe the backgrounds, still have the drawing look of the other games but Yoshi and Mario don't have that look. It's like a mix, creative drawing look and.... regular look. I'm excited for ALTTP2. It's so much better that we get this instead of another game like Spirit Tracks or Phantom Hourglass. But like Capt. said, I hope the game has a bigger overworld, a huge overworld. And the wall drawing thing is like one of the neatest things ever. And the M&L game, I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to that game. So exciting. |

Yeah... when I saw that image my opinion on the game changed a bit. I hope it's a Borderlands 2-like scenario where you visit old areas but only for a short amount of time and/or the rest of the world is completely changed. I'd be bummed if it had the same over world. |

Ugh, wall-drawing thing, so gimmicky. I love Nintendo but wish they could get through a new game without adding a gimmick. I'll probably still buy it anyway, don't have much else to play for my 3DS. Also can not wait for new AC. I could not cares less about Earthbound either. |

I really wonder what the overworld will be like.....if it will be exactly the same. If it is, that's going to ruin exploration.... I didn't realize this at first. As soon as I heard about the game I was just all like "ALTTP SEQUEL AAAAAAAAAAAAH", without much thought. If it is exactly the same or even mostly the same the only difference between this one and the first one will be the story and possibly the dungeons. But how can there even be different dungeons unless it takes place wayyyyyyyyyy after the first one. How much time is between the two anyways? But still, how can all the dungeons be replaced with new ones. Would that mean only the puzzles are different? I've never played a game before that takes place in the same world, in the same areas, other than Tales Of Symphonia's sequel, but in that game the world map was just a point and click world map where the first one had the full overworld map. I've played other rpgs that take place in the same world but in a different part of that world......Maybe ALTTP2 will be like this and you only re-visit a part of the old world map, like Hyrule Castle. Nahh, well, the part in the trailer they showed actually matched up pretty well to the Hyrule Field in the original - so I think it's safeish to say that it really WILL be the same overworld. Again, that said, I also think it's safe to expect more secrets in the overworld, and very possibly entirely new segments. Think about races - we didn't have the traditional Zelda races until OoT (Gorons, Zoras, etc), so it's very likely they'll try to retcon them in here, which, of course, implies a high probability of new areas of the map. Unless they decide to give story explanation for why they're not there (all wiped out by ancient evil, something). And like you said, Pyroll, there are new dungeons - if this is a direct sequel, how will the explain the absence/unimportance of the old dungeons, unless the new dungeons were in new areas? OR unless the "new" dungeons are in the exact same places as the old ones, just with totally different designs I guess. @Delirium Gimmick, shmimmick. Zelda kinda reached the point where its core mechanics were firmly established somewhere around 14 years ago. It's difficult to add any more 'core' mechanics to a 26-year old franchise (albeit Skyward Sword did with running and conceivably stamina/shield strength. But whatever, at least this new feature is quite imaginative and lends itself to all kinds of puzzles/secrets! Edited by Togeshroob, Apr 17 2013, 08:13 PM.

^ Yeah, see, that's the picture I saw. The overworld appears to have been tweaked slightly; it's not exactly the same. Even if they don't add many new areas, what they SHOULD do is fill the old overworld with new secrets. I mean, it was already chock full of stuff to find, but make it moreso, letting us take advantage of any new items we may get. One thing I love about ALttP is that all the items have so many uses - even hidden uses! I hope they bring back that sense again. Also I loved all the optional items to find - I hope they bring that back too. Basically, I hope they recreate and expand upon the fantastic sense of exploration/discovery that was present in ALttP - and then, I hope they use it as a starting point in the world design for Zelda U (they're already talking about non-linear progression for Zelda U...!). I like to see that Magic Meter! Hopefully that will inspire them to include a Magic system in the WiiU game! EDIT Apparently a lot of the fanbase is up in arms because this is not an MM remake. THAT, folks, is why you do not listen to everything your fanbase says! Edited by Togeshroob, Apr 17 2013, 09:13 PM.
