Wait, Shadow Dragon was released on the gamecube??
And yeah, I think I bought it at a gamestop used for like $20 or something like that. I definitely don't see copies of it very often.
My bad, I just meant Gamecube Fire Emblem, not GC version of Shadow Dragon.

He's talking about Path of Radiance Meta, not Shadow Dragon.

Which, by the way, is still a fun game. All of the Fire Emblem games are very Fire Emblem-ish - if you like one, you'll likely like the others. To varying degrees, of course, but they're all pretty similar at the core.

Oh ok. What is considered to be like the best Fire Emblem? I heard that the original gba one was really good.
I have the Sacred Stones on the 3ds, still untouched from that whole ambassador thing. Apparently that one is frowned upon somewhat as well.

It's frowned upon by the more "hardcore fans" because you can grind - there's a tower in the game that you can go to whenever you want to level up your characters. In most FE titles (1-7), the only way to level up a character is in battle, or at arenas - and if you die in an arena, you lose the character.

If you want the most "pure" fire emblem title, go for the first GBA title - Fire Emblem. Roy's father is the main character.

Oh, cool. Roy was a badass in Melee, I miss him.

Roy is the main character of Fire Emblem 6 (the game "Fire Emblem" released in the US is actually the 7th title in the Fire Emblem series.) If you're into emulation, you can find the game fully translated. It's an awesome game, with a great story, but it's missing some of the things in Fire Emblem (7.) If you're going to play Roy's game, play it before the original GBA title (the one with Roy's dad.) It's backwards story wise, but playing any of the newer titles, then going back and playing an older one is like torture.

In Sacred Stones, I never really bothered with the Tower at all. I might of play it once, just to see what it was like. For most of my "grinding" I was just doing the random monster battles.

I'm up to Chapter 5 now in Awakening, so I downloaded the DLC but I haven't tried it out yet. The game is really fun so far.

Why is that? Do they improve that drastically with each installment?

There are different mechanics implemented to make the game more user friendly, but they do improve overall. About half of the units in 6 can't even promote (upgrade classes.) It's worth it for the story, but not worth the frustration of backtracking. I'd say play it first, or skip it. 7's a good start as any.

Well I don't do any of the emulator shit, since I have most of those old consoles I just buy a hard copy of most older games I'm interested in at a flea market or whatever. Although that game was a Japan only release wasn't it? (6) Also I might check out the gba one if I can find a copy somewhere cheap. That's a game I've always wanted to play.

Chapter five was the longest and best battle yet! I just hope the difficulty doesn't ramp up too much in six. My renown is only at 70, so I received some glass sword that breaks very easily. Eh... Wow! Thanks! :D

Yeah, Roy's game, Fire Emblem 6, is Japan only. So your only hopes of playing that game is by using an emulator. If you feel bad about it, download the game, and send Intelligent Systems/Nintendo a letter in the mail with $30 in it.

Damn! I really noticed an increase of difficulty in Chapter six. I downloaded the "Champions of Yore 2" map pack, but I've only played through the first map, so far.

    Spoiler: click to toggle

Anyways, this game, in my mind, is the best tatical RPG you can possibly buy for a handheld or home console system even. From my impression of the demo, I was expecting a major step above FFTA2, but this game goes beyond even to say that.

Well that's a pisser. And no, haha. It's not that I would feel bad about it. If Nintendo wants to deprive me of a potentially awesome game, fuck 'em. I've just never used emulators. I'm not huge on using my pc for games at all really.
I'll keep it in mind though. Do you have any one emulator in particular you would recommend? I don't want my computer getting fucked with trojans and what not.
