Nobody has decided to create this thread by now, so I took the privilege of doing so myself. Let the conversing commence!

Edit: If Best Buy is already fulfilling their customer's pre-order's in NA, and the release date was pushed forward to the first of February, I'd like to know why this game still isn't available to download on the eShop. Come on, Nintendo! I paid my way, now give me the damn game! :(

EBgames released it wayyyy early. I've had it for like 5 days now! I love this game! I'm only on chapter 8 atm but that's because I am stubborn and refuse to continue playing a chapter if a character dies. But the grpahics to the story (as simple as it really is and kinda predictable) its pretty good game overall.

    Hates fun.

I can't believe we're back to the days of staggered regional releases. Why, Nintendo, why?

Guess it gives me time to save up so I can get it on Euro launch.

When I was at EB Games today I looked to see if they had it and they didn't, though, I wouldn't have bought it anyways because I want to download it from the eShop. I'm looking forward to tuesday. This and Dead Space 3 motherfuckas.

I've only played Shadow Dragon and I fucking loved it. Apparently that's one of the weaker entries in the series too, so I might give this one a try. Super addicting gameplay though.

LK, same here my friend. I know I'm going to become very addicted to this game, and download every little bit of DLC that becomes available for purchase. Other than collectible value, what would be the real advantage for me buying the cartridge? I mean, it's not like I'm going to spend $50-$100 on the DLC, and then sell the cartridge for a profit. I don't plan to download every retail game from the eShop, just certain games for specific reasons. Like, I'm not going to pay $30 + tax to download Shadow Wars, when I just purchased a new copy at a discount store for $6.40 w/tax. I probably wouldn't choose to download a retail game, if there's also an incentive to purchasing a physical copy, like an exclusive artbook, CD, etc... I know pre-orders of Fire Emblem are included with an exclusive artbook, but I evaluated the situation, and the artbook wasn't much of an incentive in this case. On the other hand, "Etrian Odyssey IV: The Legends of the Titan," won't have any DLC available, and all initial copies will contain an artbook and music CD. Now that's seems like a better reason to purchase the physical cartridge. I know, I'm probably just being too damn analytical, but I can't help that.

MetaZora, from what I've been able to read on the internet, Shadow Dragon seems to be THE weakest entry in the series. Have you tried the "Awakening" demo yet?

Shadow Dragon is actually one of my favorite entries into the series. That being said, I've played the fan-translated earlier titles, 6, 7 (released as Fire Emblem over here), Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, and Shadow Dragon.

I'll eventually pick this title up. It's nice of them to include an option to turn off perma-death, but I feel that'd make the game far too easy, and overall less enjoyable for myself, personally.

I have to agree with Ice, from what I've played of Scared Stones I can't see me using Casual Mode for my first real play through of the game. Now if I want to play it through again to see different endings and such, I'll use it.

I never planned to turn off permadeath. It's a staple of the franchise, and the game wouldn't offer such an unique tatical RPG experience without it. Well, besides the storyline and character development. Which is some of the best I've ever had the privilege of experiencing, and really sets this franchise apart from most of the other tatical RPGs I've played before.

Nintendo only included this such option, so the game would attract a wider range of audience. More novice players may be a little intimidated by the idea of permantly loosing one of their unit's. It just makes the franchise more approachable and accommodating for the less hardcore crowd. Nintendo is trying to transform this from a niche franchise into one of it's main franchises, and the best way to do that is to comfortably ease players into series.

I have not tried the demo yet, although it sounds like I should. I don't understand why people didn't like Shadow Dragon, unless they were longtime fans and felt it didn't bring much to the table. It was after all a remake of the first game wasn't it? Makes sense why I didn't mind it though, being my introduction to the franchise everything in it was relatively new to me. But in terms of gameplay and stuff I thought it was incredibly solid and fun.

Nope, I was wrong again. I just received a message about the DLC in my 3DS notification box. The "Champions of Yore 1" DLC will only be free to download until March 6th. After that date, the map pack will cost $2.50 USD.

The weird thing about Shadow Dragon is despite the fact that it's got this reptuation for being a terrible Fire Emblem game, it still goes for a fortune used and is a real collector's item. I spent ages looking for a copy once and wound up getting jipped and buying a obviously fake one (booted up to an R4 menu and everything). I'm trying to convince a friend to sell me his GC copy because online it goes for £50-£75, I managed to get the Wii game for £20 despite the average online price being £60.

Getting annoyed about the wait for Awakening though, at least it's appeared on the UK Amazon, but it's got no cover art or release date :C

Wait, Shadow Dragon was released on the gamecube??
And yeah, I think I bought it at a gamestop used for like $20 or something like that. I definitely don't see copies of it very often.
