I'm always in the minority for starters. I freaking love Swampert and Torterra.

But it's cool. It just means I go through the game with a slightly different team structure than most.

The antler pokemon looks lame. Then again, I think all antler pokemon (and animals, for that matter), look lame. I'll take the flying Y.

Mewtwo is a pretty awesome pokemon.

Though the fact that a fat guy can block his cave and prevent him from escaping is kind of lame.

Really? I think Xerneas looks really sleek and graceful - especially in this new art. Yveltal looks cool too, but I much prefer Xerneas' graceful design.

But now... across the Internet, the general consensus - even by many long-time, since-gen-1 fans - is that these are some of the best starters since gen 1.
I agree with this. I honestly think these starters are the best ones. I like them more than the first gen starters.

    See? SEE?!

You took the words right out of my mouth. I completely agree.

And kinda like Froakie, Xerneas looks more unique, the flying one doesn't as much.

So yeah, I've already decided what version I'm getting.

I don't know. He looks....just lame I guess. I'm not saying it's a bad design - far from it. However, much like Stantler, the Three Musketeer Legendaries, and real life deer/moose, it looks...dumb. I don't think it's the antlers - it just looks....eh.

The bird looks awesome. Don't like the names, but he looks cool.

@Ice: Ok. Here's another thing I don't like about the bird. Every time I look at the pictures of the bird I see a God damn Y. He looks too much like a fucking Y. When it comes to the Elk, whenever I look at him I don't think "X" every time. He can look like an X but it's not so damn obvious. Look at the picture of the bird in the opening post as well as the new artwork.

    It looks kinda weird....

    Probably watching Archer

One of the things I'm most excited for when a new generation of Pokemon comes out is the new cross-generation evos. Does anyone know if there will be any new evos of Pokemon from past generation? That was something that disappointed me in the 5th generation. I will probably have to get a 3DS before I go to college.

@Pyroll - That thing is blatantly an "X." There's no avoiding it. I imagine that bird won't look like a Y when it's in battle, unless it's consistently fully spread or flying, unlike that elk, where it'll always have those giant eyebrow looking frills. It just looks weird to me.

Though, it's not to say it's the most outlandish looking legendary. Wait....no actually I think these two are. All of the other legendary pokemon aren't really super "representative" of what they stand for - you don't think "Continent" when you look at Groudon, or "Weather Suppressor" when you look at Rayquazza. You definitely think "X and Y" when looking at these things.

Ive never really got into the Pokemon series but have played Pokemon Red on an emulator before. Seems to me like all of your excitement means ive been missing out on something good. Definitely going to buy this for my 3DS.

Same here! I'm hoping for an evolution of Pokemon that don't have an evolution so far.

There are a handful of Pokemon that I'd love to see evolutions for, sure; the 4th gens batch of controversial new evos game me some of my favorite (Roserade, Mismagius, Froslass, etc). Specifically - Corsola, Masquerain (spelling?), Sableye, Mawile, Castform, and so on. I think it'd also be cool to see a dual evolution thing for Solrock and Lunatone, where they turn into one of those Mexican/Native American-inspired moon-sun deals.
