So they aren't going to make a new game, but they might make a revival collection or something?

He said from the very beginning that this wasn't a new game - he's been trying to make that very clear.

But who wants a new game, seriously? Any Mother fan would simply be glad to have the legal, official option of OWNING the games 8D

I'd like a new game. Preferably that new art style from the original Mother 3 press releases.

You mean the ones from when it was back on the 64, before it died away?

Seeing all the screenshots and footage of that game does make me long for a game like that, I'll admit. But I'm more than happy with the games as they are now :]

Yes, I do. I'd preferably like a game with that particular visual style, as opposed to sprites. I'd like to see what it would look like on the Wii U.

So it looks like Itoi was just talking about Mother 2 coming out on the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console

    Very disheartening, for sure.

At least, at first! Why would he have made those mentions of the Western fanbase? He's even had an impactful personal talk with a Western fan living in Japan (you probably read his remarks, Hunter) about the Western fanbase! So while I am somewhat dejected for the moment, my hope remains.

If anything, it's a first step! It wasn't even out on the Japan VC yet.

Heh, it might come out on American VC...in which case I'll be very angry because I already paid $130 for the damn game

Hey, I paid something like that too, but I'd be happy because a States VC release would be HUGE. That would be the biggest victory for the fanbase since... I dunno, Ness's addition in the original Smash Bros? We're long overdue :\

I read that this is the very first Mother-related release since Mother 3 released in Japan in 2006. Kinda puts it into perspective!

    IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED
    OFFICIALLY
MOTHER IS HEADING WEST AFTER OVER 15 LONG YEARS

This is the single greatest day in the life of the Mother franchise. This is HUGE. If EarthBound gets the green light I hope it also means the green light for Mother 0 and 3 when they're inevitably released on Japanese VC.

I love how the specifically talked about how they saw all the fan petitioning and stuff in the Direct Video...

    I just can't believe it :'D

The only title that I've played is Mother 3, and I really, really enjoyed it. If this is true, and we end up getting some kind of collection or something similar, I'd buy it.
Ice we need to get you on Mother 2, That games introduces the New age retro hippie and you MUST play it!

I purchased Earthbound at EB games, when it was originally launched in a bundle including a game guide. I believe it only cost like $60 plus tax back then. Anyways, one of the best RPGs I've ever played. I'm glad so many people will finally be given a chance to experience this wonderful game, but I don't think I'd actually be able to play through the whole game again.

    Hmm, I suppose...
I personally don't think there's really anything to this. It's almost certainly not news of a new game, as Itoi has made it very clear that there has been no Mother 4 in the works (unless I guess someone else develops it or something). A compilation trilogy IS possible, but right now? When even Japan hasn't got Mother 3? When they made such a big deal about EarthBound - and EarthBound alone in the states but especially in Japan?

Though it is priced rather strangely, at $45. If Amazon just assumed it was a new game, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't put it up for $60, like standard WiiU/360/PS3 fare. And then $45 is way too high for any previous VC download. But then I don't really know how Amazon works, so. Maybe it's simply a placeholder.

Whatever the case, I'm not getting too hopeful.

I'm just extremely happy EarthBound is coming at all :]
