    So he won't have anything to do with Zelda or Mario anymore? So what games would he be making, new games?
    Like, Aonuma might come ask him for advice on a certain issue here and there given his expertise, but yeah, he's not going to be overseeing the development process, nor will he be giving his ideas to implement. Instead, he'll be putting all those ideas into new games he makes :D

    So yeah, good or bad, who knows?
    Just so you know, Aonuma was behind most of the stuffs in the DS games and SS. Miyamoto only provides ideas/guidance; he doesn't really direct the whole thing. Though keep in mind that Aonuma was also behind Majora's Mask (heh. behind the mask) - Miyamoto made OoT, then left MM largely to Aonuma.

    @Ice
    omg, a new FourSwords would be like the best thing ever.

    @LK
    Yup! And then Miyamoto expressed his desire to make a spiritual sequel (or straight-up sequel, it's not totally clear) to ALttP with top-down 3D depth, and then there was a quote where they were wondering whether to remake MM or go with the spiritual sequel idea, so I don't think they really knew what they'd do at the time. Given that Aonuma's favorite Zelda game (last I'd heard) was ALttP, I hope we get the spiritual sequel :]

    He'll likely still contribute to certain processes - especially if they go and ask him. He just won't have nearly as much directional input into things, which is cool. I remember reading Miyamoto had practically raised his own Mario team, so I'm not worried on that front at all.

    @Pyroll - I don't think it really matters - there might only be two Ganon's, but each Link and Zelda have technically died at one point or another. I think it's more of a "we've hit another branching possibility, let's use it" deal. Especially when it comes to the story of the games.

    A 3D remake of A Link to the Past sounds like the worst thing ever. It's too pure—leave it as it is. Like Polygon editor Arthur Gies said on his Twitter, A Link to the Past is one of the most perfect games of all time. Nothing can be done to make it better.

    It would be interesting to see a remake of ALTTP regardless though. If it's done right it could be better. It depends though......maybe it wouldn't be that good....I didn't like Final Fantasy IV's remake on the DS, it wasn't full 3D but it wasn't 2D either, I tried playing it and for whatever reason the game just wasn't fun at all in semi 3D and it would have been even worse in full 3D. Final Fantasy IV was just so much better in it's 2D form. I know with some 2D rpgs the dungeons just wouldn't be designed for 3D, it would seem like you're just walking down the same corridor, or I mean, all the hallways wouldn't look that much different, especially an NES game like the original Final Fantasy.

    When it comes to ALTTP Hyrule Field could be done well in 3D but I don't know about the dungeons now that I think about it....

    I'd still like to see it in 3D though, it doesn't have to better than the original.

    No, no, he didn't mean a remake of ALttP (at least, not in the later quotes), he meant a spiritual sequel to ALttP. As in, a game along similar lines to ALttP - similar gameplay, similar feel, similar style, and so on. He wanted a game with that kind of top-down perspective in 3D. Which, on the contrary, I think sounds like the best thing ever :>

    Otherwise I totally agree; ALttP should be left as it is.

    As someone who loves LttP, I'm on the other side of the fence. I'd LOVE to see some kind of re-rendition of it. Maybe not a full polygonal rendition (unless it was still top down), but a re-drawn version would be amazing.

    I've read that Nintendo wanted to remake ALTTP. This isn't the site where I first read it but read this:

    http://www.craveonline.com/gaming/articles/190409-nintendo-considering-remaking-a-link-to-the-past-or-majoras-mask

    I had also read somewhere that Aonuma was asked what his favorite Zelda game was and which game he would like to see remade and he said ALTTP.

    Nah, that article is taking the quote out of context. When he says they're trying to decide either MM or ALttP, "ALttP" is referring to the spiritual sequel idea. If you want I can find the full quote. Actually, here it is -

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/04/12/miyamoto-wants-new-link-to-the-past

    I mean, they could certainly go with a remake in the end - but as it stood back at the time of the interview Miyamoto wanted to make a spiritual sequel, not a remake.

    A spiritual sequel would be cool. Hell, I'd be cool with just an upscaled, HD version of the game. Maybe redraw some animations, smooth out the menus, and update the text. Like, visually.
