![]() So I know we've discussed the possibility of a Zelda game set in the future and what it would be like and so on. But this is kind of a big deal. Zelda almost was going to be about the future! And the triforce was going to be computer chips? How awesome is that? Personally I would love to see a game set in the distant future. Zelda universe does not belong in ours, in my opinion. Guns/ taxes/skyscrapers do not translate well with Zelda I don't think. However a futuristic time might translate very well. Just look at Twilight Princess. We had some experimentation with the Twili. I think that world and style fit very well with Zelda, and I think that style could be used as inspiration for a potential future theme. Anyway that's just me. What do you guys think? |

I would also love a distant future setting. Personally I think it would work best if it takes place far in the future but after some sort of apocalypse or something so it still has that semi lonely feel when exploring the landscapes. Like there would be futuristic ruins everywhere. But that's just me. They dabbled with this type of concept in Skyward Sword with the Lanayru Desert time bubble things and the little robots. How awesome would it be if they made a Zelda that does a similar thing to the Dark World or even better the 7 years difference in OoT but made it like several hundred or thousand years' distance? I would definitely be on board for some sort of futuristic Zelda game though, sounds magical. |

Whoah, this is really cool... That's why I love Did You Know Gaming. It always shows fun little Easter Eggs and shit that you would have never known about. A Zelda game in the future, eh? I saw weird concept art for something like that once. It looked really cool. I would be on board for them to try it, but if there's no Master Sword, then it's a no go.

Yeah I agree. There are some things in Zelda you just can't change. I like the idea of an apocalyptic Zelda and with the popularity of post-apocalyptic stories out there, I think it would do well. I think I saw the same images you did, Olimar, and they were awesome too. |

^ Technically WW was a post-apocalyptic world, even if it was the happiest, most oblivious one in existence :p I wouldn't oppose a futuristic setting - I'm all for the series trying new things and exploring new possibilites - however, I'm not exactly chomping at the bits for one. I still really like the very "natural" feeling that Zelda has been having more and more recently - places and things very integrated into nature (like almost all of SS's dungeons, built into a mountain range, or filling in with sand from outside, etc). It's definitely one of the several perks of not focusing on huge, 'impressive' cities. Edited by Togeshroob, Nov 5 2012, 10:55 PM.

Haha. I guess that's true, and it worked! I think whatever setting Zelda goes for, it would fit so long as it doesn't become cluttered everywhere. I think it would be hard to capture that same sense of adventure if there were a billion npcs everywhere you went. Or at least so long as the majority of the side characters stay confined to the larger city areas. It would actually be pretty cool now that I think about it to see Hyrule's castle town evolve into like some heavily populated Bladerunner-esque utopia surrounded by barren landscapes. |

I don't think future has to necessarily mean no nature. In fact, it would be really cool to see nature taking over a technological world IMO. Also yes, no NPCs everywhere. Honestly, I have always wanted a Zelda game that has a lot more exploration to it. I love side quests in Zelda and if an entire game was just running around a large detailed map with puzzles here and there I would be insanely excited. |

Nature taking over a technologically advanced world would be incredible. Sounds like some Studio Ghibli shit. Also I agree with the sidequesting. That's probably my favorite part of any Zelda, SS being an exception... Sweep some houses, fetch more dumb crap... More sidequesting and more interesting sidequesting is something I would love in the next Zelda. Edited by MetaZora, Nov 5 2012, 11:26 PM.

Agreed. I think the exploration part of Zelda is my favorite, and a lot of the sidequests in SS were minimal travel. I enjoy working hard for my heart pieces, yo! |

SS also had some of the best sidequests, don't forget. The Peatrice affair? The Acadamy love triangle? Speaking of those awesome sidequests, one thing I really liked about them was that you got to have some control in their outcomes. You could choose to pursue Peatrice, or to get on her dad's side by telling him. Now, I DO NOT want choice/consequence in the main game's story - just meh to that - but I think the minimal degree of choice in sidequest resolution is a really nice idea that I hope they continue. Same thing with the text boxes dialogue branches. About the exploration thing - I do like free-roaming exploration, but I also really like the action-oriented, obstacle-course-like approach that SS has. I'd be fine with either one, the former representing traditional Zelda, the latter representing modern Zelda. @LG Oh yeah, nature mixing with technological world would be a sight to see, for sure! Ehh, no. I would not consider walking around a building listening to NPC drama one of the best sidequests. I'm sorry but I can do that shit in my own school. If it would have resulted in different items or impacted the story in some small way or anything I might feel differently. It was amusing I guess. As far as the approach (free roam or more linear) though, I'm pretty much the same. As long as the game is built around it properly, I can dig either/or. Edited by MetaZora, Nov 7 2012, 12:29 AM.

What if a sort of distant post apocalyptic world was going on where there was a massive futuristic city but it's been many hundred years and nature is coming back? Like dirt and grass beginning to cover up a metallic ground, but still bits of metal shown. |
