I was just wondering if any of you Pokemon fans do competitive Pokemon battling. I've always seen Pokemon battles, and they are very stragetic and well planned. I want to see if anyone of my forum is the same. ![]() I've been IV traing my Pokemon, and it's hard yet I think it will be worth it. So, have fun disscussing!

I look into the advanced circuit, look for strategies, build basic imaginary sets, and so on, but I don't battle myself. I found that when I did I generally just got really angry when I lost (which was pretty much every time) and then I would play even more aggressively, make more mistakes, and just have a pretty bad time playing. This all changed recently with Pokémon Black and White, though, when I managed to win a HUGE amount of matches in frikking Rotation Battles. I basically rely on an Absol with Detect and Sucker Punch, some kind of generic defensive tank with Explosion and HAX abilities, and then a Beat Down attacker with low defence and high attack. My win/loss is around 3/2, so I'm not so bad at it. I still don't play competitively, though. |

I'm not in the least bit competitive. When I battle with other people it's just for fun. Winning's nice too though.

Oh goodness no. I used to be, but it became far too stressful. Really, it was the IV breeding that did me in, though the sheer amount of potentiality that you have to account for is insane, and it just all made me want to quit :< I greatly admire the system, though. It's crazy how deep it is. |

Competitive battling isn't a matter of who's the best, it's more of who has the most patience to IV train their Pokemon with effort values, plus breed other Pokemon with certain moves and natures. It takes way, way too much time and effort for me to even bother. I think fighting the advanced Elite Four is enough for me. |

Competitive battling really runs two circuits - IV training, and effect matchup. In either one, it's something that you have to do a lot of research into, and it's something you have to be willing to put time into. You don't need to IV/EV train your pokemon - throughout the process of beating the game, your pokemon will be EV maxed out - and it'll likely have a unique spread. Even IV trained pokemon can lose out to a wildly trained pokemon. For example, most people see Shuckle and think it's been EV trained for health and defense - but if you go for defense and say, special defense, then power trick, you'll be on a completely different scale than one that's been trained for the former. And by different - it's a huge difference. We're talking 40-50 points worth. Effect matchup doesn't really need EV training, but it would help I suppose. Either way, for me, I haven't in a while, but if anyone want's to go a few rounds, I'm always up for it. |

^ See, that's exactly what I mean! The same type of surprise logic can be applied to many different Pokemon (some only have one role, though). The amount of potentiality is MAD. |

I never even pick pokemon with good base values in the first place because I like to play with my favorites. This drives my boyfriend mad because he likes to battle competitively and always wants me to play with him. But I just want to have a fun team, not a sooped up team and boxes full of misfit pokes. |

That's what I do. Battling with Pokemon just isn't fun if they're not ones you like. I always end up with a bunch of similar type Pokemon that don't fare well against one or two gym leaders. I end up needing to do some grinding, but I'm fine as long as I like the team I have. |

Don't you ever have trouble with Elite Four and stuff, Rebecca? I did that same thing during the Ruby/Sapphire years (Grumpig hellz yeah) but when I got to Elite Four I got my ass handed to me. That's usually why I pick Pokemon that are at least decent stat-wise. |

Nah, but I'm a grinder and my tastes in pokemon don't always land me with weak pokemon. Plus, they are my favorites so I don't mind spending the extra time figuring out how to get the best moves they can have. I suppose in the end I'm still spending a lot of time being meticulous, but I'd rather it be with the ones I enjoy. |

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line

I dont, but kind of wish I could. I can design good movesets and breed for the right natures, but I dont IV train them. |
