I'm surprised that Nintendo announced the Wii U one so soon. Didn't they announce it before the 3DS one was even out? I think that was a bad move. A lot of people, such as myself, probably skipped out on the 3DS one because of the Wii U one and are waiting for that one. If I hadn't known of the Wii U one I might have gotten the 3DS one because of the 3D.

The WiiU one is actually the first "New" Super Mario title I'm legitimately excited for. And I don't even plan on purchasing a WiiU in the near future. That game looks quite appealing, like they actually took some time to make it stand out from the others.

edit: Oh, and blow it outcha ass Togeshroob. :P

The main reason i didn't get this game on release:
Paying for WiiU is breaking bank.

Plus i have winter clothes to get soon so i can't be too loose with my money.

lol, you know as well as I do that that was an unfounded statement ;p Though I guess you were just trying to make a joke-point-thing... But seriously, NSMB2 actually has a lot to differentiate it, a few very interesting new ideas, and it's apparently a ton of fun.

I'll agree that the Wii U title looks more fantastic, though. It'll be the first title I'll have bought in the "New" series since the DS one :p I skipped the Wii one 'cause I knew how much fun it was to play with other people... and I really didn't have any other people.

Whoa whoa whoa. I've never made an unfounded statement in my life!
    :P
Come on though. A geologist could argue the vast differences between two nearly identical pebbles but that won't change the fact that they look exactly the fucking same to virtually everyone else. But oh, this one has a bit of moss on it where the other doesn't or oh, this one supports multiplayer where it should have been present for the last decade. I'm not asking for a dinosaur that shoots lasers, but a slightly more polished rock with actual "noticeable" differences between the others would be nice.

Because of this, I think I will just hold out for the WiiU version. Possibly. And not for a while.

    No I'm kidding.

@shroob: Why couldn't you play the Wii one alone? You don't have to play it with other people. I played it alone and it was still a fun game.

Sure it's fun single player... but it's simply so much more fun playing multiplayer! I played at my friends house several times and had an absolute blast, but mostly because of all the competitive/co-op antics.

'Course, I may or may not have many people to play the Wii U one with (I probably could, actually), but I still want it anyway, so maybe I don't even know what I'm talking about :p

I actually think New Super Mario Bros. U looks half-decent. Definitely better than NSMB2, that's for sure. I kinda still want to play 2 out of curiosity, though.

I think I would probably still have more fun playing single player as oppose to multiplayer. The other players would probably fuck me up or slow me down.

Plus, playing NSMB Wii alone is no different than playing past Mario games alone and those games were good, it's not like the single player was brought down because of the addition of multiplayer. Some people actually make it out like the single player was lacking because Nintendo added multiplayer.

Really? I thought that without multiple people there to screw each other up and get in each other's way, New Super Mario Bros. Wii was too easy. I rarely complain about a game's difficulty level be it hard as fuck or easy as balls, but the majority of that game on single player felt like I was walking through a string of large empty rooms and spaces.

Past Mario games were built around there only being one player, so the levels were designed to cram more shit in and make you maneuver around tighter, trickier obstacles. They didn't need to worry about 4 people having issues sharing the space. I guess I feel that since NSMBW's main hook was the co-op, the single player aspect got kinda neglected. I still like that game and I'm always down to play it if a friend suggests it, but I never go out of my way to play it solo.

If i remember correctly, playing solo was difficult because if you fell in a hole or died in any sense, you actually died and had to start from the beginning or the half marker. In co-op you have the backup of your friends, so if you die, you lose a life, but don't have to restart the level unless everyone dies. The bubbles helped when people were being dicks and speeding ahead of others in the game, resulting in people getting killed for being slow, but it made the game much easier to beat unless all four people playing sucked at the game and died alot. Having just one good person playing made your chances of beating the game much higher than someone playing solo and relying on not fucking up themselves.
There are pros and cons to playing solo vs playing co-op, but the game was designed to handle both without leaving out too much in the way of content or difficulty. It may seem a little easier, but honestly, they even out with the bubbles saving everyone's ass more often than not anyway.

Ah yes...the bubbles. Grrrr. I forgot about them.
I guess I see where you're coming from, though to be honest I always forget about them so I rarely use them. And when I do it's usually not on purpose. They have a way of forming when they're not wanted I find. Haha.

I should probably say though that I don't dislike the Wii title especially because I feel like I'm giving that impression. I didn't love it but I in no way think it's a "bad" game. It just feels like an uninspired filler along the road to bigger and better things. I didn't care for the first one on the DS a whole lot either. Again I didn't find anything especially memorable or challenging in it. I guess I'm just not a huge fan of the "New" series in general. I really am hoping this WiiU one will change my mind though.

If you thought the Wii one was too easy I don't think it's because it was built around the multiplayer. The DS one is even easier than the Wii one and it doesn't have the co-op. When playing single player you can tell that it was built for both the single player and the multiplayer, that it wasn't built only around the multiplayer, it might not be quite like the older games but I don't think it has anything to do with the multiplayer because the DS one isn't much different and is even easier. These new Mario games just aren't quite like the old ones in general.

I didn't find any of the NSM games hard. As someone who's played through NSMBW with 4 people, and by myself, it's never felt like a game that was "supposed" to be played with 4 people, or just one person. Meaning, yes, they give you 4 blocks in a row of powerups, but everything can be done in single player, and none of it is any easier in multiplayer. You do get more chances in multiplayer, but that's dependent on how many lives you have left - you can't come back from a Game Over.

I think I might like this more if it was like the original NSMB game where they actually remade the classic SMB instead of making up random shit.
Don't get my wrong, I love seeing new platformer Mario games, but they are just making so many NSMB games now that it's getting to the point that it's becoming a little obnoxious.
Unless this is a direct remake of SMB2 and I just don't know it? I hope it is because I would love to see a remake of SMB3.
