Honestly I'd rather see the next generation of Pokemon on the 3DS in full 3D without any sprites and stuff but that will likely not happen anytime soon. This is Game Freak and Nintendo we're talking about here.

I mean, yeah, it's not like they already made entirely 3D, fluidly-animated models of every Unova Pokemon on Pokedex 3D and gave it away for free, or anything like that!

Next gen Pokemon (gen VI) won't come 'till around 2014, anyhow. Gen V is still only getting started.

But I agree with Ice (I usually do) - the apparent "lack of ideas" has been present since gen 1 (I'd argue moreso, actually, but that's for another time). And he's right on the money saying that Pokemon is pretty darn complex. It's rock-paper-scissors on the surface, but it goes oh so much deeper. The sheer amount of strategic possibility is insane.

But that's neither here nor there. I like what LG said - hopefully this actually does continue the story, rather than retell it with a few new elements. Considering that they've gone with an unprecedented "2," this seems likely. What does this mean for the main characters? N, Ghetsis, yourself? Surely it will take place in Unova? Or... maybe they'll pull a Kanto-Johto geography thing?

I love Pokemon, but the joy it brought to my heart while I was a kid, rests within the cartridges whom sparkle of red, blue, and yellow. Heck it's a great strategy game, and I will always love getting my cousins together for a witty Pokemon battle on a long drive while on vacation, but for some reason, my nostalgia isn't very welcoming for the new Pokemon games. But that aside....

    Entertaining game is entertaining.

Coming to NA and EU this fall!

Whoa! This is the shortest localization period for a main series Pokemon game to date; hopefully this is a new norm, and not just to get B/W2 out as far before the standard DS's demise as possible! Waiting those typical six months can be painful D:

[my words never come out right]

Pokemon looks like its sort of at a crossroad here. get rid of anime pokemon alltogether and replace them with a 3d version of the game, or continue with the [awsome] art while refining it.
i do agree, however, that they seem to be running out of ideas on pokemon, but i think they should stop after a few more generations due to the kids of this age not knowing what a parasect is, not the mention the motto ''gotta catch 'em all'' becoming an impossible goal, because of the sheer quantity of pokemon will not even fit in therteen boxes anymore. which worries me. and i know some people like that pojemon keeps expanding, but that gives then less a chance to develope gameplay, story, bacround on already made pokemon, ect.

its starting to feel like you're getting introduced to a cool new pokemon just for a newer different version to come and make the other obsolite.

i mean, sure, there was lots of ideas starting out [ originally there was gonna be 160 pokemon, including Ho-oh, which is why he appears in the first episode and silver/ gold ties so greatly with red/blue/green/yellow, and why the missing no. glitch exists. [spooky, huh?]

but i hope to heck that they will do it like soulsilver, getting to walk with pokemon out of their pkballs, retro soundtracks on demand, the senses that make you want to keep playing even after you beat the game, and a fully cystomizable safari zone, just make the game so tantalizingly good, and if they combined that with black/ white's moving battle stances, some anime cutscenes, and extra ideas [ cruise ship, battle tower, wi-fi random matchup, voice chat with camra, i would buy the game in a heartbeat

Were they actually that popular? I really think Pokemon is reaching the end of the line. They are running out of ideas. Sure, it is an amazing game series, but once it got to Black and White, I just stopped buying them. I just play my Pearl version, Ruby, Heart Gold and Fire Red. :P

Black and White were indeed "that popular." They collectively sold over one million copies on their first day at retail. Not only that, but, like zane said, they are fantastic games; I'd say the best main series Pokemon games to date.

I don't think Pokemon Black/White is terrible. I personally like all generations of Pokemon, but my personal favorite is 4th generation. I also think it's quite unique how Nintendo is changing things up a bit with adding a sequel. I'm excited to hear the rest of the story! :D

It would have been nice if they made this game for the 3DS. Black and White Sold very well and just having its Sequel on the 3DS would have been a instant Boost to the Hardware and Software!! Either way i am kinda not sold on the sequel just yet.. i need more info lol.

No, Black and White are pretty freaking sweet though. I still need to finish my White version. My only big beef was that it only had the option of migrating past pokemon rather than allowing me to play hot potato with them. I'm not ready for that kind of commitment, especially since I play my SS way more than White.

I can't wait for the game to come out! I've already decided that I will be getting Black since I got White last time.
I'm glad they didn't make it only for the 3DS because I only have DS Lite and have no money for the 3DS, besides watching 3D hurts my eyes D:

Black and White actually had some small tweaks here and there that made it a little different than the previous generations. They weren't ground breaking improvements or anything, but it's definitely refreshing to see Game Freak attempting to change the formula a bit. I'm hoping that the next generation (which is probably in early 2013) is going to be fully polygonal on the 3DS (or at least, gets rid of the sprites).

I'd say the addition of triple battles, rotation battles, new game shifting abilities and about 100 new moves that completely flopped the entire pokemon meta game on it's head is largely significant - even to those that aren't competitive or "hardcore" pokemon players. The addition of a sweeping and panning camera, constantly animated sprites, triple ability stacking, an actual 'story', a finally constant and working pokedex, off center battles and a functioning online syatem are all firsts for the pokemon series. Coupled with the new mechanics listed - yeah, I would say its a significant overhaul for the pokemon series.

It was very popular though, and still is. I can't think of a main entry pokemon title that wasn't. Gamefreak/The Pokemon Company decided on mixing it up a bit, which is cool. Along with the English localization announcement for 'Pokemon Conquest' that came in earlier today - I'm happy with the direction Nintendo and the related companies are taking pokemon.
