    If MegaMan = Nintendo?

Been thinking about all the shit going down with Capcom and MegaMan and Keiji Inafune quitting Capcom.

It's sad and quite possibly the end of MegaMan or at least as we know it. This event caused the cancel of possible the two greatest MegaMan games to come. Legends 3 and MegaMan Universe... Two games I was very looking forward to. Especially Universe.

Anyways, I got to thinking, what if Nintendo owned MegaMan. It started on the NES anyways. If Keiji and Shigeru were working together it would be awesome. And MegaMan would probably not be in the situation it is now.

But anyways, that's not the point of this thread.

What if it was actually Shigeru that came up with MegaMan and Nintendo had it right along side Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Metroid as a main franchise. I wonder what the series would be like today?
Would it be as good? Would it be better? And I wonder what different direction it would have taken...
It's interesting to think about it. Don't get me wrong, I love MegaMan as is. But I wonder what could have been.

hmmm i think it wouldn't be as great as it is now and Megaman would've probably died along the way.
What if Nintendo buys the rights of Megaman? that would be the only hope to save the blue bomber right?

If Nintendo took the rights to Megaman they'd probably do with it the exact same thing they do with all of their other franchises- ie pop out nearly the same game every year or so until fanboys start to catch on, and then when all else fails throw in some gimmicks in an attempt to claim originality. This also doubles as the primary development method of Team Sonic.

On the bright side he'd end up in SSB with every other character they can get their hands on.

I feel like the series wouldn't be as difficult either. Not that a lot of Nintendo's older games weren't hard, they were. (Kid Icarus, SMB Lost Levels) But I feel like they've made all their main series' much easier as time has passed, while most MegaMan games, (at least in my opinion) have remained fairly challenging.

If Megaman belonged to Nintendo, it would have been waaay different. There might be a different storyline, new characters/features, and possibly new type of gameplay. But I think Megaman should stay where it's at, and maybe Capcom can start on Megaman games that will actually be RELEASED.

Yeah i know how you feel. I was very looking forward to Megaman Legends 3!!! I played legends 1 and 2 when i was little and wanted to what happens to Megaman!!! But when i heard Legends 3 was in the making, i was very excited but now ever since dumb capcom cancel the project, my hopes went really down. Megaman is still a good franchise and should not be ignored at all. :/

It would of been awesome if they made a mega man in 3d for the nintendo wii!
Don't play very frustrating video games all the time. Take your time and relax, and don't get so obsessed with it. It will kill brain cells if you do. So please don't, it's very unhealthy for your body you know.

Nah. From what I've seen, 3D MegaMan games are like 3D Sonic Games. Not as good.

Mix a juice you like with tea and see how good it taste. Probably not good.

Just because two awesome people are working together doesn't mean they won't come up with shit.

Undoubtedly, 2-D Megaman platforming is and has always been far superior to 3-D. I feel exactly the same way about Metroid. I was hoping, and praying Nintendo would develop a 2-D Metroid WiiWare title. Castlevania, Megaman and Contra were all revived on the WiiWare service. Why not Metroid, damn it!? Come on, Nintendo!

Anyways, Megaman titles need to stay in 2-D. The platforming puzzles wouldn't be the same, and boss battles would be too complicated in 3-D. Megaman titles have always had simplistic gaming mechanics, and that has always been a thing of beauty. Complicating the game with 3-D gaming aspects would ruin such a classic gaming experience. If it aint broke, don't fix it! Why try to improve upon a masterpiece. The only aspect that needs to improve and evolve over time is the platforming puzzles and level design. Which has always been the way of the Megaman. It's just tradition, and a really great one at that.

GIVE US MEGAMAN 6, 7 AND X2 ON VC CAPCOM! THAT'S THE LEAST YOU COULD DO FOR YOUR FANBASE, AFTER CANCELLING LEGENDS 3 AND UNIVERSE!

Megaman isn't Nintendo-exclusive, has games on the PSP.
I'd be pissed if there wasn't any more Playstation Megaman games, because Legends was my favorite MM game EVER.

No Darkwind, I believe the N64 entry was simply titled Megaman 64.

Anyways, a good Wii console friend of mine gifted me Megaman 5 last night. I've been waiting to experience it, since the NES era. The first and only Megaman title I owned for the NES was Megaman 4. My brother and I sold our NES, before 5 was released. The level designs are even more unique than those found in Megaman 4. Although, the level designs in Megaman 4 had more puzzle elements. Which is why I loved it so much. I don't actually understand why so many gamers consider 5 to be easier than the previous entries in the series, because I haven't even been able to reach one robot master yet. So far, I've been able to reach most of the robot masters in Megaman 3 without the Mega Buster. The letter plate collecting isn't very difficult. It's a welcomed addition, though. Now I must find some way to download 1, 2 and 4. I really hope Capcom decides to release Megaman 6 on the NES VC too, because I'd love to own the entire NES collection.

As I understand it, Legends was ported to the N64 with the same title, but was renamed Mega Man 64 for its English release. So unless there were any significant changes when it was ported I believe that yes, they are essentially the same game. Not that I know much about Mega Man. Just got my information from Wikipedia.
