So a new Pokemon game was announced today. Pokemon gray? Nope! A new title altogether, and one that quite literally, no one saw coming. It's called Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition. It is a crossover title featuring Koei's Samurai Warrior's characters (who are based on actual historical figures) and Pokemon. It's classified as a SRPG, and it appears to be a tactics game. Nothing more is known at this point. It's worth noting, that the characters, such as Nobunaga (the one in Purple) are actually Koei's SW/DW/WO versions of the characters - the character's look EXACTLY like they do in Samurai Warrior's as they do in this game, with the obvious exception being the inclusion of the pokeball motif's - they weren't designed to look as if they are in pokemon. Below are some images of the title. Click for Images! |

Tactics based Pokemon title blended with military commanders instead of huge eyed teenagers makes sense to me. Not much else is known, but it is a title in the Nobunaga's Ambition line, which means it'll play like Advance Wars meets Takeover, which is cool. Just a heads up - Nobunaga's Ambition ISN'T Dynasty Warrior's/Samurai Warrior's - it's not a hack n' slash title. |

O_o What? I don't even know what to think. But I will probably end up buying it. I've never even heard of Samurai Warriors, is it any good Ice? edit: Shit. I suck at Advance Wars... I never even made it past the first level.. Edited by MetaZora, Dec 16 2011, 09:51 PM.

Samurai Warrior's/Dynasty Warrior's are hack and slash titles - you slash through waves upon waves of enemies with one over powered character, leveling up their skills and weapons. It's a fun genre that anyone can just pickup and play. There's some strategy in the late game, but a lot of it is just mashing X/A/Y. You move from Point A to Point B, securing bases and doing objectives. The story is based upon actual events that happened in Japan, so it's kind of like a living history book. Of course, they didn't have laser swords and super powers back then, but it's like that. However, this is based off of Nobunaga's Ambition, an old school tactics based title. It's hard to explain. Ambition has the same characters as Samurai Warrior's because it's based on the same lore - and they both use real people. But they're 2 different titles. |

So then it doesn't really have any ties to Samurai Warriors other than they both drew from the same inspiration? |

As far as we know, yeah. But the character designs are exactly the same, so it's definitely possible. But as far as the story goes, they all follow the same one - the history of the feudal wars in Japan, so it's not like you need to play the other ones to understand this one. |

Wow, this actually looks... really cool. The idea of feudal Japan's clan wars being solved through Pokemon battles sounds almost like... satire? Cultural commentary? I dunno, but the idea is definitely intriguing, and totally unexpected. I'm not, like, immediately sold (that'd take PMD3's announcement), but I'M certainly interested. And the artwork is pretty darn fantastic. |

Just for references, these are the character's as they appear in Samurai Warriors (Japanese Feudal Wars)/Dynasty Warriors (Romance of the Three Kingdoms/Chinese Wars)/Warrior's Orochi (a crossover of the previous 2) Nobunaga Kenshin (Shingen's Rival) Shingen (Kenshin's Rival) Mitsuhide (Nobunaga's Right hand man/assistant/killer) Oichi (Nobunaga's Sister) So as you can see, they're actually the same characters. They even took their family crests (which are still used today) and added the pokeball motif in pretty well. I'm not sure how the game will turn out, but I'm excited about the idea. |
