谢谢。 I like questions that force me to think; I don't like answering questions without trying to think of them on multiple levels. Whenever I do, I feel like I've cheated the question or completely missed the point of why it was asked. |

What would be harder for you, to tell someone you love them or that you do not love them back? |

@VL (1) That's a really interesting question, too. You see, on the one hand, I wish I could say that it would be harder for me to tell someone I [/i]love[/i] them as it would be a signal of my sincerity; it would also show reverence for what love actually is. However, I have, and continue to say, "I love you," without putting much stock in the feelings behind it. Granted, I keep it restrained when referring to someone I know would take it to mean more than I personally mean it to be, too. On the other hand, though, I really, really, really hate offending or hurting people-- particularly when I don't have to. I want to give people what they want, so long as I find it to be a worthy desire or something they deserve or should have. I suppose in the end I would have to concede that it's more difficult for me to tell someone that I do not love them simply because I hate causing pain. (2) Universal empathy. I contend (perhaps naively) that the vast plurality of human problems arise from simply not treating one another as fellow human beings. Every sort of discrimination is the result of an egocentric perception of another person-- whether it's racism, xenophobism, sexism, homophobism or any of myriad 'differences' between people groups -- and should be halted or reduced. If everyone was to treat people as if they have inherent dignity (which most cultures have this idea ingrained in their ethos... at least for their people), many of the most atrocious conflicts would cease to happen. This isn't to say that we'd live in a utopia-- crime, poverty, death, and other macabre things would still exist. Yet, we would be able to work together to limit those things if we didn't have silly preconceived notions of one another. @Quantom X, MARIOPARTY1 @Hissae2, I do like Chinese food although I'm more partial to Japanese. Granted, I've only had "Americanized" versions of both. (I'm in the process of convincing my Chinese friend to cook some Chinese cuisine for me-- no success thus far) |

Do you like Vanderbilt? Are you originally from Tennessee? Did you apply to any other universities in the southeast? If so, which ones? Do you go to their football games? What do you plan to establish as your major? |

@Bonsly, 1) I do love Vanderbilt; it's an amazing school. Every part of it's great-- the classes are refreshingly difficult, the social scene is great, the prestige and acclaim will be helpful for Law School admissions, the financial aid is generous, the people are genuinely kindred and accepting of all sorts of people, and I've already made some amazing friends here. 2) Yep. I've lived in West Tennessee my entire life. 3) I only applied to three: Union University per parent's request, Vanderbilt University, and Middle Tennessee State University. 4) I do go to the football games-- I usually don't stay the entire way through. It's generally pretty easy to tell if we're going to win or lose. I did stay through the last game to the end-- albeit, it hurt to do so. That last half was just... a mess. 5) Oh, I've already established myself as a Political Science/Philosophy double major with emphasis in PreLaw styled courses. @Hissae2, I'm supposed to be playing some soccer with some friends on Friday; afterward, we're supposed to gather up and eat (probably at one of the plethora of TexMex restaurants here) and then probably a little bit of drinking. Friday is going to be a bit odd, though, given that it's Sorority Rush night-- none of the Frats will be holding any parties. I only go to the frats occasionally, but my friends generally only gather to drink before heading out. If we're not doing anything, I may head to an off-campus Graduate party with my friend Ateesh. Or, I may do like I did last weekend, and simply study/do work. |

I like your answers, they are very very interesting. Let's get deeper. Think of someone who you really knew that died. You have the chance to give them day of life back, but you have to give 10 years of your life. Do you? |

@Quantom X, I've played both MP2 and MP3. Mario Party 3 was one of the first games I received for my N64. Oddly, I've never actually played the original Mario Party. I happened to get the name when I exhausted everything else Mario related (I remember even simply trying "Mario," albeit it was obvious that would be taken or reserved). @VL, I can give them one day of life back for 10 years of my own life? Fortunately for me, no one that I've been extremely close to has passed away. However, my dad's father (who I seldom visited due to distance and other rather trivial family issues) death came as a shock to my family-- particularly my dad. If I was able to, I'd give my Grandpa another day of life on the condition that he spent the time with us-- especially my dad. I think the hardest part was that we didn't expect his death at the time-- we weren't even thinking of "good-byes" at the time. I'd like to ease that suffering a bit and give the family solace if I could. However, I find that I'm often a rather selfish bastard. I mean, 10 years of my life for 1 day of life for someone else? The scale is completely unequal. I don't know if I could see myself doing that. At all. However, I'm also tempted to say I'd do it if simply in expectation of the Singularity bringing about medical technology to postpone or cease natural death-- as well as reversing aging. I don't know if it'll ever possible (or even desirable, for that matter), but if I had assurance, and the will to rely on such technology, I'd be more apt to give up 'years' for his prolonged life-- albeit, I would probably cheat and do it once and then have him on the same technology as me at that point. Yet, I don't know. Death is a pretty interesting concept to me. I find that I'm terrified of it, but simply for reason that I enjoy living and would 'miss' out so many things. This thought, to me, doesn't make much sense given that I envision death to be the cessation of consciousness and thus I wouldn't actually 'miss' anything. However, I'm also worried that the moment before I died I would look back and be disappointed by all the things that I failed to accomplish or could have if I had the interest in doing so. |
