Indeed they are; however, by extension one could say that reading this thread, posting discussion, and even coming to forums and talking about video games in the first place is a waste of time as well (to which I certainly wouldn't argue ;p). That said, does it really matter if predictions are pointless or not? They provide discussion by allowing people to express their preferences/opinions in the presence of like-minded people, which is pretty much what these types of forums are for.

It's the fate of every Smash-related thread to eventually devolve into "put my character in pl0x" - this is a fundamental fact of the Internet that I am afraid we must learn to accept ;o But by all means let's do keep talking about the mechanics and fundamentals of the game, because, as you've likely noticed, we don't have many people who are into competitive Smash (anymore) around here. So it's great to hear discussion about that, too.

All that said, Erem, what would be your ideal mechanical set-up for the upcoming Smash? As in, I'd assume you'd want it more like Melee, with certain exploitable mechanics allowing for competitively geared techniques? What about your views on the Adventure mode? Story-driven platforming like Brawl, or more concise like Melee's?

    True.

I have no idea- nor does it particularly matter. Sakurai said it would be unlike Melee or Brawl, so I can't quite grasp what that looks like as I've never experienced it.

Melee is better in every way, shape, and form, when it comes to mechanics and balance. Melee wasn't perfect though, but then again you're not going to find a fighting game like Melee that is as well developed.

Melee placed emphasis on mobility- some characters lacked it. You could argue that the ledgegrab sweetspot boxes were too small, and this lead to being easily edgeguarded, while in Brawl, they made it too lenient- to the point where edgeguarding besides a gimp was simply impossible.

So, again, no idea. A balanced Melee is already being developed, a mod called Project Melee that is in its beta phase now, and simply holds tremendous potential to be excellent and amazing- addressing issues of both games and fixing them to create a superior smashing experience.

    Hopefully.

Every game in the series has something the other doesn't.
So it would be nice if they just make it a blending of all SSB games.

Blending all the games would be an interesting idea, but i would want them to add a lot of new stuff too, so if it sacrificed new characters and levels and such then i would rather it not have aspects of the older games.

Oh yes! It does need to add a lot of new characters, items, stages, features, etc.

But I think it would be nice to make the gameplay as solid as possible and then think about adding new features.

So for anybody that is interested in Project Melee, here's a video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TOyydKF8_4

Its goal is to implement Melee mechanics into a Brawl atmosphere- while patching out differences and making everyone egalitarian in terms of roster potential and viability.

tl;dr Turning Brawl into Melee with some patches. Check it out. Zing.

Cool video. :3 Liked the music. I'd love to see what they can do to combine the two fighting-style games into one epic console game. :D Also, yes, the character roster should be increased with more characters! :D *Please include Aipom!*

    I forgot to mention.
Another very important thing that they need to work out it the balancing.
To me, the original SSB was the only game in the series which was well balanced.

Pikachu was broken, and Samus was practically the only character who wasn't viable. But yes, I agree.

P:M is focusing on character balance- it's gonna rape. Might be able to play it this week, yesz.

And Ness' grabs/throws were very unbalanced too, but still with few exception here and there, it's still the most balanced.

Melee is my all time favorites, partly from the memory aspect of it.. Leaving my gamecube on at 7 in the morning, then coming home after school to see the "A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES" screen (mewtwo). Also trying to see if the Sonic/Toad rumors were true (to no avail.. :pinch: ). Roy was without question my favorite, then Link!
Fan of The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, and everything Nintendo,

I actually prefer the controls and gameplay of the original over Melee or Brawl, but it does lack content. Ive probably spent more time playing multiplayer on that game more than any other game ever. Ness is easily my favorite character on the game, once his super-jump and downkick are mastered, he is unstoppable.
