Funny, I played Melee last night for the first time in quite a while. I just wanted to mess around, play my old favorite stages (Fourside <3), listen to the music - you know. I must say, though, that each time I go back to Melee I'm astounded by how difficult it is to control, compared to Brawl. I used to not understood why Brawl was said to be so much more accessible, but when I play Melee it's pretty obvious. I mean, sure, Melee's mechanics allow for some interesting manipulations and techniques, competitively speaking, but I find Brawl's mechanics to be so much more smooth and easy to get into. Plus Ness is just really bad on Melee ;p |

Yeah, Ness is horrendous in Melee. That's why I use Ganondorf. I prefer Melee over Brawl. I like the fast paced action over bubbly air combat. And a quick nod of my head to everything you jut said about Fourside. |

Brawl was deliberately watered down from Melee, as to be more accessible for a wider audience, which also guaranteed more income on a casual-targeted console. I do play Melee competitively- I like how you said "mechanics" and not "glitches", when said glitches were left in on purpose. Here are Sakurai's thoughts about the transition from Melee to Brawl and why he removed a lot of competitive elements. http://nintendoeverything.com/56909/sakurai-shares-his-thoughts-on-super-smash-bros-melee/ Edited by Eremurus, Oct 9 2011, 05:39 PM.

To be honest, i think brawl is better duo the more activities you can do in the game. Melee was truely great for fighting and awesome for multyplaying! what if the next Gen smash bros would be a combo inbetween? |

Sakurai gave the impression it would be unlike Melee or Brawl.

I think I need to take a day and go back and play them all together to examine the differences in gameplay a little more closely. I've been playing Smash Bros. since the n64 one, but I never really noticed that huge a difference between them, other than the obvious things, like updated graphics and more characters and game modes with each newer entry. I think I typically chose Brawl because I liked how much it offered to do as compared to the other two, plus Toon Link is a fucking boss. I've probably spent the most time on Melee though. I never really felt like one was any harder than the other. Just one had a whole lot more in terms of content. I also like many of the items they added to Brawl, like the assist trophies and final smashes for each character. I felt like it kept the game fresh for a longer period of time. Brawl had a much longer and more satisfying story mode, (which had co-op!) and the snapshot mode or whatever was a huge improvement over Melee's. As far as character roster goes though, I miss quite a few of the characters from Melee.

64 is like playing underwater compared to the other two, but I like it a lot better. It's less reactive and more strategic, you see attacks coming so it's about using the proper counter moves and timing them effectively. And its fun raping with yoshi. |

Brawl plays better and it is more casual, so a lot of people can learn how to play easily. I played Brawl competitively, but stopped a few months ago. |

I've always managed quite well with Ness in Melee. Melee vs Brawl... I think I'd choose Brawl because I prefer the Wiimote/nunchuck controls. If that was ignored, I don't think I could choose between the two. |

I jump around a lot and it depends on which game. For Melee I use Ness the most, followed by Samus and Zelda/Sheik. For Brawl I use Ness, Wolf, and Pit the most. Like I said though, I jump around a bunch and end up using really any character. |

If you get hit once, you're dead. 64 is anything but slow. Everything rapes everyone. 64 is awesome. Edited by Eremurus, Oct 11 2011, 03:57 PM.

I'd have to say, I was disappointed when my best character, Kirby, was a lot less powerful in Brawl than Melee. But I manage. I will say I can kick more ass in Melee than Brawl. Funny thin is, Melee's CPU characters in many ways are harder in Melee than Brawl. Yet, I was winning 3v1 matches where i was the 1 and fighting against 3 level 9 CPUs in Melee as Kirby. I haven't had the same success in Brawl. |
