So I'm considering buying one of them... contradictory to one of my old topics, I know (the Wii selling to save money), but I have the money to buy one, which one should I?

    The way I see it:

    PS3 advantages:
    Blu-Ray movies/games
    Uncharted
    LBP
    Classics such as Spyro/Crash Bandicoot
    Modnation Racers
    Steam-Compatible
    A console
    Killzone
    Price drop - $250 now

    3DS advantages:
    3D no glasses
    New Mario Game
    OoT 3D
    SF64 remake
    New Animal Crossing
    $180

Those are the advantages I see to each. Thoughts?

It really depends on the type of games you enjoy. Nintendo and Sony, as we know, have completely different games.

If it was me, it would be a hard choice. The PS3, of course, has more titles, better graphics, and it's a home console. But, I would have to buy a 3DS, just because I enjoy the games and junk. Of course, if depends on the gamer. :P

The PS3 has an entire half-decade's worth of library to pick from. And then on top of that you have the additional features, such as DVD playability. That said, the 3DS has a bunch of great games coming (Professor Layton, Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, New Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, the list goes on), but that's just it - they're coming. You'll have to wait until at least early-mid 2012 for a lot of the great games to be out.

So, unless there's an upcoming 3DS game you just really want, PS3'd probably be the better choice at this point in time, especially with the price drop. You can always get a 3DS later, if you want.

Oh, but it should also be noted that the 3DS is backwards compatible and has a Virtual Console. But you may or may not have need of any of that.

Dude, PS3. No question. I think the 3DS will probably end up being a good handheld (basically just like the original DS), but you can't go wrong with the myriad of games you can play on the PS3. Uncharted, God of War, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet. And those are just the exclusive games. There are only a handful of games of this generation you wouldn't be able to play (Gears, Halo, Fable basically).

Personally, there are not a lot of games out or coming out for the PS3 that I like or want so I'd go with the 3DS. But, again, that's me.

The biggest difference - one's portable, the other isn't. That should be your first hurdle.

Right now , the ps3 has alot better games around , as it should if we are comparing it to a handheld that hasnt even been out for a year yet . The 3ds is getting a few more games by the end of the year , but once again many others have said it depends what kind of games your after .

Like everyone's saying, the PS3 has more variety in games and I was thinking about it. If you don't like the PS3 when you buy it, I'm sure that you can trade it in for a 3DS if you feel that was a better choice.

I won't lie, thats a pretty odd choice seeing as they're so completely different!

As of right now, PS3 would probably be the better option as it already has a huge library of games, the 3DS not so much. Once all the star games come out for the 3DS, you could always trade your PS3 in for a 3DS. But you literally just have to decide whether you're more keen on a console or a handheld.

I've changed my mind. PS3 would be my pick, but if the 3DS gets more games, I'll choose 3DS instead.

    PS3. Again, more games.

I think consoles always have the better games. The 3DS will have great first party games though, Nintendo always has great main games as well as side games, but who knows with the 3rd parties. Handheld games are usually smaller games and more restricted when it comes to space on the cartridges and what not. Their usually not as good quality as the console games, and some developers don't put as much effort into their handheld games as their console games, depends, however, because of this, they're cheaper games. The handhelds also have a lot of remakes instead of new games, not saying the handhelds don't have many new games though.

If it was me, I always choose the home console over a handheld. But if you want to play on the go, handheld obviously. Keep in mind though, I think the 3DS will have many great games, I think it may have better 3rd party games than the DS has.

If you want to play the console right now, a lot, PS3, because you will have to wait for the games with the 3DS, being a new handheld and all.

I was thinking that too. I've never seen these consoles paired before.

I would go with the PS3, simply because I find it more entertaining. I've never been all that fond of handhelds, save for my PSP, but I really only got that for the movies and junk, as its library of games are a little disappointing. The PS3 has so many games that are bound to satisfy you over and over again, and the 3DS is still developing.

On the other hand, the 3DS can function as more things than the PS3. It can be a camera, a portable (there's that word again) internet browser, as well as a gaming system. So, its really what you want out of the console that decides it here. The PS3 is a good gaming and online choice with an already built gallery of games, while the 3DS is a little more versatile, portable, but doesn't have all that many titles yet.

Such an unusual pairing, but I can see how it can be difficult as well.
