So I've been trying to get more into PC gaming, but my computer is shit. It can't even run KOTOR, a 2003 game with not some great graphics (it is still a tremendous game nonetheless) but my computer still can't handle it. So my question is, can someone recommend me a good gaming computer that isn't terribly expensive, under $700 would be ideal but I'm open to all ideas.

You reckon you could build one yourself? It's not that difficult and you'll get a lot better value. The hardest part is making sure you buy the right stuff but I can help you with that if you want.

I could try. My friend is good with that stuff so he could probably help me. Can you recommend me some parts that aren't terribly expensive?

I literally built myself a PC last year—it's not difficult at all. All you need to do is connect the dots, sort of like LEGO. Just make sure everything is secure and all of the wires are hooked up correctly. I built it from scratch so it cost me about $600 or so, and that includes buying the $100 Windows 7. My PC can run the Witcher 2 on high and Starcraft II at its highest settings to boot. I used TigerDirect.ca to buy all of the components but you will probably need to use TigerDirect.com. I didn't buy a monitor though, I had a good one already.

    This is what I bought:
    - Power Up Black Mid T ATX Case w/450w PSU
    - Crucial 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
    - AMD Phenom X4 9850 4MB Socket AM2+ CPU
    - Samsung 22X DVDRW SATA OEM
    - Seagate 1TB LP Serial ATA HD
    - Biostar MCP6PB M2+ GeForce 6150 Socket
    - EVGA GeForce 9800GT 512MB DDR3 PCIe HDMI

Um... I don't know if you can order parts to build a laptop. All I ever see is parts to build desktops.

Our pc that I built was around $1500 or so. I could probably build one for less.

Eh... I don't know. You're going to have to ask someone who knows more than I do, like Rusty.

Get a Dell XPS 7100 Desktop. It has a HD graphics card (ATI), has an AMD six-core processor, and has a low, reasonable price at $549. More info is on this Link

Alright, fair enough. I can build a desktop, that's not a problem. Was just curious if that was possible.

Laptops require a lot of knowledge in electronics to successfully build, plus gaming laptops are always complete crap and they overheat easily which damages your computer. not to mention parts for a laptop are more expensive because they have to be compact, so even if it wasn't difficult to build you would go way over your budget.

Like Link Kid said a good place to buy parts is TigerDirect.com
Another good online source for parts is Newegg.com
And finally if you have a Microcenter near you they always have reasonable prices and good deals from time to time, so its definitely worth checking out if possible.

Theres guides all over the internet that can help you put the parts together. Its also important to note that you can't just pick out a bunch of parts that look good and put them together, you have to check for compatibility first, so before you buy the parts I would recommended posting what you have chosen here or another forum.

Here is my current build, I built it about a year and a half ago but it can still run any game out there right now at max settings.
    ------------------------------------------------------
Case: Cooler Maser CM 690 - $80 - sturdy case with a good airflow
Motherboard: MSI NF770-655 - $110 standard motherboard with some neat quick over-clocking features (unnecessary but cool nonetheless)
Processor: AMD Phenom II 955 Black Edition (3.2 Ghz Quad Core) $170
Graphics Card: Zotac Nvidia GTS 2501 GB of DDR 3 ram - $130 - One of the better graphics cards (performance/$ and can run anything out there)
    RAM: 2 gb Crucial DDR3 Ram x2 - $100
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 750 gb 7200 RPM - $79
    PSU: Thermaltake 600 Watt PSU - $60

    Total cost : $729
