A sentence for you to read underneath my avatar.
Sorry if there's been a thread like this, but this is a place to talk exclusively about good video game composers. Who are your favorites? Recommend any?

My favorites are the following, in no particular order:

Koji Kondo (Almost all Nintendo games,

    Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill series)

Harry Gregson-Williams (Composer for the Metal Gear series. )

Robin Beanland (Killer Instinct. Probably one of the greatest soundtracks to ever grace a video game)

David Wise (Donkey Kong Country series)

Daisuke Ishiwatari (Composer for the Guilty Gear series)

Jesper Kyd (Assassin's Creed, Hitman, Gears of War)

Edit: Oh, and Kow Otani (Composer for Shadow of the Colossus)

Shogo Sakai, who did the Mother 3 music.

Keiichi Suzuki, who did the Mother and Earthbound Soundtrack.

Tomohito Nishiura, who did the Professor Layton games.

And Noriyuki Iwadare, who did the Phoenix Wright games.

Oh, and Shunsuke Kida, who did the Demon's Souls soundtrack. :)

And Koji Kondo is good as well, of course.

Very easily Shoji Meguro - he does most of the music for the Shin Megami Tensei series, but he also did Catherine, and he does the music for the Trauma Center games. All of his music is fitting to the games they belong to, and a lot of the songs are simply jaw dropping - specifically the Persona series. (Each title, too, not just 3 and 4.) If you like Jazz, electronica, rock, hip hop, or instrumental music (specifically pianos), then look into his work, most notably Persona 3 (FES and Portable), Persona 4, Persona: Revelations (PSP), Catherine, and Strange Journey if you're looking for "music" music, and Trauma Center/Trauma Team and the rest of the SMT series if you're looking for music with a more "video game like" approach. It's all great, and all of his "arrangement" releases are amazing.

Koji Kondo's pieces, though, are timeless. Also, Ash, Shunsuke Kida also did the Love Plus soundtrack. Worth looking into if you like his work.

Pretty much exactly what Ash said, though I've yet to play Pheonix Wright ro Demon's Souls.

And whoever did Kirby's Epic Yarn's soundtrack is brilliant (can't seem to find a name). I don't even have the game, but I listen to the soundtrack all the time. There's some surprisingly sophisticated music there.

In regards to Kirby's Epic Yarn, one of the composers were Tomoyo Tomita, who composed Metal Gear Solid 2's soundtrack. Then there's Jun Ishikawa, who does most Kirby soundtracks. :)

I liked the music from the Metroid Prime games, the most memorable song for me was the one that plays in the fire area of the first Prime game for the Gamecube.

Yoko Shimomura, the composer of the Kingdom Hearts II soundtrack, maybe the other kingdom hearts games as well?

Kow Ontani, the composer of Shadow of the Colossus Soundtrack. I am also in love with the song Castle in the Mist from the Ico soundtrack, but I'm not sure of the composer.
