I have a bone to pick with Goldeneye Wii, but I know the entire world gets it by now. I understand the game is more or less it's own thing and a reinterpretation of the FILM, not the N64 game. That's fine. However, when the back of the box claims multiplayer has gone back to its roots, the publisher is stepping into a giant shoe its little feet can't fill. First of all, local multiplayer is NOTHING like the N64 game. There are no guns on the map and no levels even remotely similar to Rare's masterpiece. You get a gun, a pistol, maybe something else, and you play Call of Duty. Goodbye facility bathrooms full of mines and everything else we loved about the original way of shooting our friends. The online feature is cool, but it is a Call of Duty clone. As if that weren't bad enough, the game is horribly broken. You start out with two guns basically and get randomly thrown into a match of mixed-experienced players. You unlock better weapons and upgrades for your character (i.e. more health, faster speed, faster reloads, etc.) with more experience and kills. Cool idea for single player maybe, but NEVER for multiplayer. What's level 1 Johnny gonna do when level 38 Meatball has the best weapons and gadgets to assist his already better skills? Level 1 Johnny is going to die, over and over again- that's what he's gonna do. God awful idea by the publisher. Anyway, that's my bone to pick. I still prefer Goldeneye on N64 and Perfect Dark. I would LOVE to see Perfect Dark remade verbatim and put online for Wii (impossible without Rare, I know, but still). I don't mean PD Zero or Xbox Arcade revamping; I mean make the exact same game (with maybe a few new extras, but DON'T tamper the controls to fit in with modern FPS games) with Wii graphics and speed. PD had it all, from secondary functions to giving orders to simulants to the psychosis gun. King of the Hill was even an entire room, which was awesome. Remember that little alcove in the Complex with the window? Deploy a laptop gun on the only entrance ramp and your team is gold. That's what the Wii needs. Not this Golden Duty trash. |
